How to send alerts on new status, ignoring repeat ?

Hi, at my company we manage alert filtering with an homebrew tool. One of its features is that it sends alerts on the second identical message received (anti up/down/up feature). It is somewhat equivalent to the DURATION keyword, with the difference it's not time-based, but count-based. The "repeat" feature of hobbitd_alert defeats this mecanism, because it resends an alert every 5 minutes. The problem arises when a specific status reports every 5 minute and a few seconds : 02:00:00 the db1 host sends "db1.sql red" 02:00:01 hobbitd_alerts sends "db1.sql red" to my external filter 02:00:02 my external filter queues the alert until a second one comes 02:05:00 hobbitd_alerts sends "db1.sql red" to my external filter 02:05:01 my external filter pages "db1.sql red" to the crew 02:05:04 the db1 host sends "db1.sql green" 02:05:05 hobbitd_alerts sends "db1.sql green" to my external filter 02:05:06 my external filter pages "db1.sql recovered" to the now awakened crew My question is : is there a way to tell hobbit not to repeat alerts, but to send alerts only upon reception of a status from a client ? If not, I believe the "security code" is the same whenever an alert gets repeated, so I'll have to modify my filter to check for that. Error 500 when viewing Critical Systems page

I have been getting intermittent "Error 500" errors when viewing the Critical Systems page. This is the familiar "Internal Server Error"-type of message. I haven't yet been able to find a pattern of when I get the errors, but most of the time, it works just fine. The only thing I have been able to find in the apache log messages is: [Mon Jun 11 23:14:29 2007] [error] [client 172.21.3.118] Premature end of script headers: hobbit-nkview.sh, referer: http://hobbit.cuc.net/ I was having this problem before, but was running a non-patched 4.2.0version, which was upgraded from an earlier version. I have since moved to a brand new server, with a fresh compile/install of 4.2.0 with the latest allinone patch. The OS is Red Hat EL4 Update 5. Is there any way that I can get more detailed logging as to what exactly the problem is?

Configure SSL Error

Hi all, I've recently got my hobbit server back up and running and now I need to add SSL support. I know I can just install it and redo a configure;make;make install, but I get this error when running configure: Checking for OpenSSL ... How to run an arbitary script on the client end?

Is there a way to confgure a client, via client-local.cfg or otherwise, to run some arbitrary command on the client and send it's stdout/stderr back to the hobbit server? I have a few simple shell scripts that exist on some clients that it would be nice to invoke and then read their results on the server end using the "$BBHOME/bin/bb localhost clientlog..." method. Similar to the way a "file:path_to_file" directive will collect a file's metadata? I want something like "runprogram:path_to_program" I am doing this currently using a server-side script that ssh'es to the client machine and runs what it needs. I would rather have the normal Hobbit client collect the data output by the client-side program, upload that, and my server-side script would parse that resulting clientlog rather than going and collecting it's own data. If this is possible. Thanks!

DOWNTIME for single test

I have noted that the DOWNTIME in the man-pages does not reflect the ability to disable specific tests. I'm sure more than myself have spent some time searching through the mailing list to find such a use of it. Specifically, I found this with a note from Henrik: http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2006/06/msg00412.html I'd like to request that get updated at some point. For future generations or what have you. Bug? Possible incorrect escaping of <img> tags in graphs

I think I've encountered a bug in the way <img> tags are created for graphs. From one of my status pages, below is the link to it's graph. Notice disp=Lantronix%20sshrseg1 in the <img> tag. <IMG BORDER=0 SRC="/hobbit-cgi/hobbitgraph.sh?host=sshrseg1&service=incomingdata&a mp;graph_width=576&graph_height=120&disp=Lantronix%20sshrseg1&am p;nostale&graph=hourly&action=view" ALT="hobbit graph incomingdata"> ##### After clicking on the graph on the status page to open up the expanded page with the 48hr, 12day, 48day and 576day graphs the link below is for the first graph on that resulting page. Notice disp=Lantronix sshrseg1 The space was not represented as %20 like you'd expect. <img src="/hobbit-cgi/hobbitgraph.sh?host=sshrseg1&service=incomingdata&a mp;graph_height=120&graph_width=576&disp=Lantronix sshrseg1&nostale&action=view&graph=hourly" alt="hourly graph"> ##### Even though the disp= part of that second img tag is not properly escaped, the graph still displays (I don't know why). However, it breaks if the text for the disp= was "Lantronix #1" for example. Apparently it chokes on the # character. Those disp= entries above came from my bb-hosts file, where the relavent line looks like this: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx sshrseg1 # prefer incoming NAME:"Lantronix sshrseg1" DESCR:"Terminal Server:Incoming Alarms" That line used to look like the one below, but when it was like that, the expanded graphs didn't display and zoom was broken: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx sshrseg1 # prefer incoming NAME:"Lantronix #1" DESCR:"Terminal Server:Incoming Alarms"

Monitoring Process on FreeBSD

Hi, I've been using Hobbit 4.2 on my FreeBSD box for a week now and It works just fine :) Now, I'm wondering to monitor processes on my boxe. For that achievement, I just add those lines to the ~/client/etc/hobbitclient.cfg : HOST=xx.yy.zz PROC server_linux I restarted hobbit server and all clients, but hobbit does not take this parameter... It says me that I have "no process checks defined"... Is my configuration false? Thanks. PS : I also tried to add theses lines to the ~/client/etc/localclient.cfg without success...

Upgrading Hobbit

I attempting to determine the best method to upgrade my hobbit 4.2-alpha-20060527 to the 4.2 version w/o losing history and keeping monitoring disruption to a minimum.
