One feature nagios has that I really like is the ability to nominate dependent devices. ie. server1 has a depends on cisco1. If cisco1 fails, don't worry about sending alerts for server1, since you can assume it is not visible. I'm trying to migrate from a large BB installation which made extensive use of host groups via the BBConfigure script. While some of the groups would allow for a regex to describe its members, there are quite a few sizable groups where this isn't feasible. Is there any way hobbit could support the bbwarnsetup.cfg file style of host groups? Or possibly the HOST (and MAIL arguments for that matter) could accept shell commands somehow? For example: HOST=`/usr/local/bin/bbgroup netapps` MAIL `cat oncall.txt` (And bbgroup would assemple a comma seperated list of netapp hosts.) Using DU during disk space alert

Hi A mere suggestion. For connection if ping fails the traceroute kicks in to give more details about the alert. Can we have same thing with disk space alert? In other words if df shows a partition reached the threshold percentage run du to give more details about which dir/folder under that partition is the biggest folder. Also may be an option to define the level of search. So if I choose level 2 it will not only find the biggest dir/folder/file under the partiton using "du -sk *" but it will then go to next level to find the biggest dir/folder/file under this biggest dir/folder. Http test behind proxy

My Hobbit server sits behind a proxy server that requires authentication before it will allow access to the internet. How do I test external hosts (for http for instance) from here? Is there a way to pass credentials to the proxy server to allow access? Thanks KEvin

all purple?

Hi How can I trackdown this problem: all network tests show up as purple. bbgen is yellow, because "Too many purple updates (>30) - disabling updates for purple logs". Yeah, good, that helps a lot hobbitd is sometime yellow to, with these messages: Latest errormessages: Loading hostnames Loading saved state Setting up network listener on 0.0.0.0:1984 Setting up signal handlers Setting up hobbitd channels Setting up logfiles Setup complete Any suggestion? -- Emmanuel Dreyfus manu at netbsd.org
