Compile problem with Hobbit client

Hi. First a "thank you" to Henrik for his presentation at the Linux BOF today in Copenhagen. Very interesting. Coming home I decided to try to make a Hobbit client for a thin client project I'm somewhat involved in (thinstation.sf.net) However, I got into trouble when trying to compile the Hobbit client in the custom Thinstation build environment. Hobbitses (sorry for the LOTR humor :) First off, said it before and will say it again. Hobbit Rules! I am testing a host service through an ssh tunnel. I have some questions on results I am seeing on the display. Here is what the bb-hosts file looks like. 127.0.0.1 hobbit.foobar.com # BBDISPLAY BBPAGER BBNET bbd http://hobbit.foobar.com/ ssh 1.2.3.4 remote.host.com # 127.0.0.1 ssh.remote.host.com # noconn ssh:2222 My /etc/hosts file is: 127.0.0.1 hobbit.foobar.com localhost 1.2.3.4 remote.host.com 127.0.0.1 ssh.remote.host.com OK. The 1.2.3.4 is measuring the ping time across the net (no tunnel) The display shows a average ping time of 32.4 ms. Between hobbit.foobar.com and remote.host.com. Makes sense. The test is between NY and Boston. The conn time for hobbit.foobar.com is an average of 9.5 ms. This is 127.0.0.1. (Seems high) The ssh test time for hobbit.foobar.com is an average of 1.5 ms. I get an average TCP connection time of 84.9 us. This does not make sense. I know that hobbit is indeed testing the remote ssh daemon successfully because of the banner response. The time just does not make sense. Even if hobbit is just giving the localhost test time, I would have expected the time to be exactly the same as hobbit.foobar.com. Am I reading this wrong? Hobbit 4.1.2 Release Candidate now available.

The first release candidate for Hobbit 4.1.2 is now available at http://www.hswn.dk/beta/ It will also be uploaded to hobbitmon.sourceforge.net shortly. Loads of bugfixes and minor improvements, especially in the new Hobbit client code. See the attached Changes logfile. Please test this if you can, and report any bugs to hobbit at hswn.dk. If no major disasters show up, I expect to release the final 4.1.2 early next week. Regards, Henrik

client install

I wanted to clarify my understanding of the hobbit client. I'm back to evaluating Hobbit since BB (even with bbgen and a secondary BBNET machines) is killing a 2.4Ghz dual Xeon with 4GB RAM with its 7000 targets. The standalone client is only for NetBSD, so when i get the whole package and install only the client, I can delete hobbit related files in /usr/local? I.e. I'm downloading it to /usr/local/ out of habit, using ./configure --client and after the make and make install, do I need anything that's left in /usr/local/hobbit, since the client folder goes to /home/hobbit? Just trying to eliminate extraneous stuff on the machine. Thanks! P.S. I understand I can use the existing BB client, but I might as well use the real Hobbit client on new installs. Thanks!

[hobbit] mailq script & absolute values for disk checks

I think it would be nice to have the green/yellow/red based on the GB/MB/KB size since some of our disks are presented from a SAN and can be close to 180GB, even 1% of that is HUGE... Heh :-) the "Erik" mentioned here is a colleague of mine who handles a bunch of Sendmail servers. That's a custom script for a virus-scanning mail-gateway we have, where we want to check on both incoming and outgoing mails - the default mailq scripts I've seen only looks at the outbound queue size. So Erik's enhanced mailq script is pretty specific to our setup, i think.
