Inexplicable purple on running services

Consider the below. Approx. 25 minutes ago, across all monitored systems, all net monitored services - ssh, ldaps and dns - went to purple. They are still up, running, and just fine in every respect. The status message is even the same as when it was showing green. But now every ssh, ldaps and dns light is purple. The last thing i was messing with when this happened was the alerts config file; i hadn't touched bb-hosts. cpu, disk, memory etc. all remain green. I cannot find anything in the logs that indicated what changed 25 minutes ago. I have restarted the hobbitd. Something like this seemed to happen yesterday; after a number of monitored services were green and unchanging for a while, they went purple, yet report as "OK" across the board. While tweaking other settings, everything went back to normal. I don't understand what could call this, or why it's displaying the purple light when it "knows" it's fine. Any ideas? [hobbit] NETSTAT and Apache?

I'm running the hobbit client on the box that runs the server, but I do not see the netstat tab. Or the BB client with the bf-netstat script from LARRD. Or a BB Windows client with the bb_memory add-on. The Windows bb_memory add-on just grabs the output from "netstat -s". The apache data are sent in a "data" message, which doesn't trigger a status column. Because I think there's really no idea in making this a red/green status. I believe by adding "NK=bb2" or similar to the end of the line in bb-hosts will display that test for that machine in NK if red or yellow. Henrik, on your little example server, I can see you have netstat info your linux server showing up on Hobbit. How did you do that? Is there anyways I can get the windows version to show bandwidth instead of packets? Also, I was wondering why there isn't a tab for apache when you enable it on bb-hosts, but the graph only shows up on the trends page? alerts - pointing at mail server

Dear All, I've probably missed something obvious but........ I've set up some basic alerts in my hobbit config. Looking at the logs indicates that they are being triggered and attempting to send mail to the specified address. However - no mail arrives. I'm sure the reason is that the server doesn't know where to send them - I can't seem to find anywhere in the hobbit config files where I can tell it about my local smtp server. Do I need to be configuring sendmail on my hobit server or? Cheers! Rich

Hobbit uses whatever mail agent is specified in ..server/etc/bbdef.sh (I think that's the file) If using sendmail, you need to configure sendmail so it knows what to do.... Custom graphs on the status page

Is it possible to add graphs of custom tests to a status page as well as the trends page? I'm running a custom test (named "foo") that measures response times of a service. So far I've managed to get a graph of foo to appear under trends using Hobbit's NCV handler, but I'm not having any luck getting it on foo's status page. Here's what I have: - custom test named "foo" that sends status messages in "sec: <time>" format - in hobbitgraph.cfg, added a [foo] section - in hobbitserver.cfg, added "foo=ncv" to TEST2RRD and "foo" to GRAPHS - in hobbitserver.cfg, added NCV_foo="sec:GAUGE" I tried adding "GRAPHS:*,foo" to the host entry in bb-hosts, as per this message about mysqlstatus [1], but that had no effect. Mailinglist and website offline Wednesday Nov 2nd

Due to some change with my DSL connection, the Hobbit mailinglist and website (www.hswn.dk) will probably be off-line for a few hours on Wednesday while the telco people do what has to be done. I don't have any fixed time-schedule for it, but presumably it will be sometime between 08:00 - 16:00 CET (07:00 - 15:00 UTC). Regards, Henrik

[hobbit] Hobbit sending HTML emails?

Another option is to write custom alert script and set that as the action for the alert. I have written just such a script so that my MRTG and UPS alerts come in as HTML and include the appropriate graphs. I would be happy to email it to you if you would like, just be forwarned that I am not a developer so run at your own risk ;-).
