OK, I installed the new patch without any problems but I get odd results when trying to use it. Using it from the Info page: Microsoft IE - "A runtime error has occurred. So I've been busy adding - essentially creating a Hobbit-version of the full maint.pl script. The result is an updated maintenance-feature patch, available as always from http://www.hswn.dk/beta/maintenance-feature-v2.patch This is against the 4.0.2 release, like the first version of the patch. The patch implements the same feature as the first version - you can disable tests for a single host from the "info" page - but it adds an extra script "hobbit-enadis.cgi" that takes over from the maint.pl script. hobbit-enadis.cgi displays an administration page very much like the maint.pl one; I've unashamedly stolen Tom's JavaScript code and used it in my implementation. (I hope he doesn't mind - I'll ask for his permission). However, to better cope with the enormous host-list I've added the ability to filter hosts using three regular expressions - against the hostname, the pagename of the host, and the IP address. Question about dns test

I've read the manpage, but I don't understand this test. I thought I could use this to test if an A record exists for a certain host. For example: Host=mail.domain.com in the bb-hosts: 1.2.3.4 mail.domain.com # dns=A:mail.domain.com The test seems to be querying mail.domain.com com for the record, not querying the nameservers for the hobbit machine set in resolv.conf. Am I just wrong about what this test does? Thanks, Michael

Depends tag question

I'm reposting this question hoping to get some replys. Is anyone successfully using the "depends" tag? I have the depends tag on one of our hosts and I'm confused on why it goes clear occasionally. This is what I have in the hosts file: 0.0.0.0 www.deltafaucet.com # noconn http://12.159.193.35 depends=(http:firewall/http) The http test on www.deltafaucet.com has gone clear about 4 or 5 times in the past week while the http test on "firewall" has stayed green the whole time. Each time it goes clear, it's only for less than a minute, sometimes just a few seconds. HPUX Hobbit Client Issue

Hello there... while looking out for a good infrastructure monitoring solution i noticed the new hobbit. It seems to be a good approach for that what i am needs. However, as far as i am noticed, there is no client software, except those found at sourceforge, but i cant compile this stuff on my HPUX machines. Is there probably a way known by someone? Any tips? If not, is there a plan to develop client software for another platforms such HPUX or WINTEL? I have to use BB clients at the moment, but i would prefer to use some kind of GPL software.. Anatoli, Hobbit Central is a good alternative to a "client". It runs on a local server and reaches out to the remote servers collecting data and then reporting back to the hobbit server. The only problem is that it was created for Big Brother and not Hobbit. The solution, or so I thought, was to port it, but that didn't work out for me so I wrote my own script called hobcen, but it doesn't work well for a large number of remote hosts, so I am rewriting it to support a large number of remote hosts and I am writing it in C and not shell script for efficiency and sanity reasons. I am working on this now and I had hoped to have it out already, but life has suddenly gotten in the way. I should have something to release in the next couple of weeks and will announce that when I am ready. Keep in mind, however, that there are security concerns with using hobcen as is relies on a shared public key to make an ssh connection so anyone that can get onto your hobbit server can get on anywhere. To some a minor concern, others a major one.
