Hi, Attempting to install hobbit.4.0.3.rc1 on AIX 5.1 with RRDtool 1.2.0 generates the following from ./configure :- Checking for RRDtool ... test-rrd.c: In function `main': test-rrd.c:26: too few arguments to function `rrd_graph' gmake: *** [test-compile] Error 1 ERROR: RRDtool include files found in /usr/local/rrdtool-1.2.0/include, but compile fails. Any suggestions? CPU info

Hi all, Does anyone know how to get the info (and graphs hopefully) on CPU utilization for unix machines? Currently, we see CPU load which is different, and I believe a true measure of how hard the box is working but I have people who feel the need to also see cpu utilization....any ideas? Thanks kevin

New enable/disable tool ready for testing

I've spent the past couple of days working on the enable/disable code, in an attempt to get rid of the maint.pl Perl script. I have something now that I believe works well, so if you feel like trying it out I've generated a patch for you against Hobbit 4.0.2. It is available at http://www.hswn.dk/beta/maintenance-feature.patch Installing is the usual: cd hobbit-4.0.2 patch -p0 </tmp/maintenance-feature.patch make stop Hobbit make install (as root) start Hobbit My solution works somewhat differently than the old "maint.pl" script: The enable/disable functionality is no longer a separate webpage listing all hosts; instead, this function is moved to each hosts' "info" column page. I did this because I have about 2000 hosts, so the list of all hosts was practically unusable in my setup. You can see how it looks on the demo site http://www.hswn.dk/hobbit/ - just pick one of the "info" buttons. You can of course disable tests (a single one, some of them, or all of them); you can re-enable tests that have been disabled; you can schedule a disable to happen at a later time; and you can cancel scheduled disables if they are no longer needed. The scheduled disabling is handled internally in the Hobbit daemon, so you no longer need "cron" running to handle it. I've never been fond of allowing my CGI scripts to run at-jobs from a security perspective... Regards, Henrik

These vmstat rrds are from back on larrd 42; just after the change to accumulate cpu wait. So I'm trying the vmstat recreate to see if the definitions I've got are severely non-standard (I'd almost bet on it) If so, I'll see what I need to hack to keep my current data . . . On the disk space rrds -- this is a lot of wasted activity for us; we have about 8 filesystems we care about, and my production R3 DB server currently has 95 filesystems that have been 100% full since creation -- and we add another 10 every 13 months (150 GB -- SAP just *eats* disk). If I can't suppress the creation, I'd at least like to suppress the display of the graphs -- they're meaningless noise in our shop. Not a showstopper for going live Monday, though -- If I can figure out the vmstat issue. Hi all, I'm trying to set up my alerts and I cant quite get them working, a simple example of my config is as follows: <snip> SERIVCE=conn COLOR=red TIME=W:0750:1710 EXPAGE=%.*/(hscs_servers|special|telemed) MAIL ees2y at pagehost.virginia.edu REPEAT=1 FORMAT=SMS </snip> The problem, I believe, is in the EXPAGE line. When I remove said line, I get the conn pages, as expected, albeit all of the ones I was trying to remove with the EXPAGE line. When I include the EXPAGE line, I get pages for everything EXCEPT conn pages. Can anybody give me a clue as to how I should format the EXPAGE tag? Many thanks, -Eric

OK -- I chickened out and haven't thrown the Big Red Switch yet -- but I have hobbit running (display functions only) on my failover system and most everything looks good -- except (there's that ugly word) my vmstat graphs for my AIX systems. Something is quite wrong, and I'm not sure what to look at. Here's what the vmstat bottom feeder ships out: aix 1 3 2342710 511 0 1 1 2249 14879 0 1964 11870 4215 15 11 31 42 so cpu_usr is 15, cpu_sys is 11, cpu_idl is 31, and cpu_wait is 42. But the vmstat graph is giving me a system of 0.0, user 1670.0, and idle of 2347945.2. There are no errors in larrd-status.log or larrd-data.log. And this seems to be happening to all my AIX systems -- cpu_idle and/or cpu_user are massively inflated. Any ideas of where to look? (My two suse linux systems look correct). Also -- I only get the vmstat graph for AIX - I'm missing vmstat0, vmstat2, vmstat3, and vmstat8. Where do I enable the graphing for these? Have you tried: (as user hobbit) ~/server/bin/bb 127.0.0.1 "drop HOSTNAME http" where HOSTNAME is the name of the host you want to drop the http test for. Found this under the 'tips and tricks' section of the hobbit documentation drop down menu.
