[hobbit] Still problems with writing client data while running several clients

Hi, as the problem persists and there were no replies to my last message (except for Matthias, thanks), I try again: Is there any way to synchronize several instances of hobbit client on one machine with delay so that each sends client data to the server at a different point of time so that the server is able to write those data? Starting those instances with delay does help accidently but not always. Any help or ideas are welcome! Rolf The details (My old message): we are running 1 to 3 clients on each host, one for $hostname and one for each virtual host defined on the machine in order to get client data like disk, cpu, etc. for $hostname and for each virtual host. Each client is started using $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/bin/hobbitlaunch --config=$HOBBITCLIENTHOME/etc/clientlaunch.${MACHINE}.cfg --log=$HOBBITCLIENTHOME/logs/clientlaunch.${MACHINE}.log --pidfile=$HOBBITCLIENTHOME/logs/clientlaunch.${MACHINE}.pid Now I have the problem that client data of one or both clients is neglected by the server. In rrd-data.log it shows: 2006-01-18 13:03:40 RRD error updating /pica/ffm/com/sys/hobbit/hobbit/data/rrd/lbscgi2/netstat.rrd from 141.2.164.215: illegal attempt to update using time 1137585820 when last update time is 1137585820 (minimum one second step) In rrd-status.log are similar entries like 2006-01-18 12:48:38 RRD error updating /pica/ffm/com/sys/hobbit/hobbit/data/rrd/lbscgi2/memory.real.rrd from 141.2.164.215: illegal attempt to update using time 1137584918 when last update time is 1137584918 (minimum one second step) The client data (disk, etc) for both becomes purple in bb.html. Date for both clients is stored (sometimes) correctly: hobbit/hobbit/data/rrd/otter -rw-r--r-- 1 bb prod 19576 Jan 18 12:43 memory.real.rrd hobbit/hobbit/data/rrd/lbscgi2 -rw-r--r-- 1 bb prod 19576 Jan 18 12:58 memory.real.rrd I tried starting the clients with some seconds difference, that helps for a certain time and then the problem reappears. Hi Henrik, Thanks for the good work!! I've downloaded the snapshot but I cannot use it ... I've manually changed the hobbitnk.cfg file to put an host that exists in my configuration but it seems that nkedit cannot get the configuration (it didn't find that host/service) and if I try to insert anything i get an Internal Error from apache. In the error_log i get: Fri Jan 27 11:57:54 2006] [error] [client 10.90.24.45] Premature end of script headers: hobbit-nkedit.sh, referer: I've also one question (and possibly one request if it can be implemented)... It's possible to create different configuration file for different group ? Here I've some groups that are monitoring various servers/services (windows server, network equipment, Web Logic Server and Apache Web Server) and it can be really nice to have them go to different NK Page (configuration) each one monitoring the objects they really need to check.... I'm also trying to create a comprehensive hobbit configuration program that can edit all the files in the hobbit configuration (hosts, alert, client, services, graphs, etc.). My unix programming skill are a bit old so I'm developing it in .NET for windows (also because some of the user here that can need to modify the configuration are windows people that know nothing about telnet or ssh or vi :P). The interface will be a MDI interface with one child-window for each configuration file and it will be simple to include in the program new configuration file of others addon (as the snmp or bb-msgs and so on). At the moment I'm trying to understand how to get/put the file on the hobbit machine and the simplest one is via ftp... I think I can get the file also via the bbmessage.cgi but then I've to get via bbmessage.cgi and put with ftp ... Continue the good work! Thanks Francesco

Hi All Has anyone used bb-disk_by_fs.sh with BB client? I am trying to find out how it will work with HOBBIT? There are few things I am concern about. 1. How will I manage alerts per partition which this script offers? 2. How will the graph work? Thanks for any feedbacks. Installing Hobbit, but have some unresolved conflicts with SLES v9 SP3

Greetings, this is my first post to the list. I'm installing Hobbit on a new Novell SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server (SLES) v9, w/SP3, but I'm getting some unresolved conflicts when I try to install the rpm. The conflicts are: libcrypto.so.5 liblber-2.2.so.7 libldap-2.2.so.7 librrd.so.0 libssl.so.5 Where can I find these packages since they didn't come with SLES? multiple graphs from an ncv test

I have a test that picks up about 30 things and puts them in an rrd. I was graphing one originally, and that one still works, but I'm not sure how to get everything graphed. "TRENDS:*,afs:afs|afs1|afs2" only shows the original afs graph on both the afs test page and the trends page, and the trends page shows "hobbit graph afs1" & "hobbit graph afs2". Is there more to having multiple graphs work for a test? I'm having problems getting a pager rule to work. What I want is to get paged for any conn (connection) that is down more than 10 minutes, but not during "normal business hours" (ie, M-F 8a-5p). Here is what I have: HOST=%.*\.(na|internal)\.pg\.com SERVICE=conn TIME=W:0800:1700 DURATION>10 SCRIPT /usr/local/bin/skytel 800####### FORMAT=sms Here's what happens. I get paged during the middle of the day when a system goes down. If I run the rule through the "test" mode, then it says it fails on the duration rule. So if I remove the duration rule and test again, then it says it fails on the time rule. But, as I said, I'm getting pages in the middle of the day (when we're doing maintenance). Thoughts?
