While you in there for my use the best change would be if you take the data average over a period put it in a Sunday - Saturday array and plot the average by hour or 5 min segment for a 7 day work week. This view would give a work week load graph that would help on load balancing scheduled tasks and new project in the work week. I am new to this wonderfully tool (Hobbit) and still trying to understand the basics. I don't know yet how easy it is to filter the data or extract and create a new database. I would assume that pulling the data periodically and building a summary database would be the easy approach. Another approach would be to build a day of the week data base with the same data as the load data. I don't know yet if the graphing tool has a adequate summary function for the task given day of the week, hour, time, date, load order. Problems with writing client data while running several clients

Hi, we are running 1 to 3 clients on each host, one for $hostname and one for each virtual host defined on the machine in order to get client data like disk, cpu, etc. for $hostname and for each virtual host. Each client is started using $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/bin/hobbitlaunch --config=$HOBBITCLIENTHOME/etc/clientlaunch.${MACHINE}.cfg --log=$HOBBITCLIENTHOME/logs/clientlaunch.${MACHINE}.log --pidfile=$HOBBITCLIENTHOME/logs/clientlaunch.${MACHINE}.pid Now I have the problem that client data of one or both clients is neglected by the server. In rrd-data.log it shows: 2006-01-18 13:03:40 RRD error updating /pica/ffm/com/sys/hobbit/hobbit/data/rrd/lbscgi2/netstat.rrd from 141.2.164.215: illegal attempt to update using time 1137585820 when last update time is 1137585820 (minimum one second step) In rrd-status.log are similar entries like 2006-01-18 12:48:38 RRD error updating /pica/ffm/com/sys/hobbit/hobbit/data/rrd/lbscgi2/memory.real.rrd from 141.2.164.215: illegal attempt to update using time 1137584918 when last update time is 1137584918 (minimum one second step) The client data (disk, etc) for both becomes purple in bb.html. Date for both clients is stored (sometimes) correctly: hobbit/hobbit/data/rrd/otter -rw-r--r-- 1 bb prod 19576 Jan 18 12:43 memory.real.rrd hobbit/hobbit/data/rrd/lbscgi2 -rw-r--r-- 1 bb prod 19576 Jan 18 12:58 memory.real.rrd I tried starting the clients with some seconds difference, that helps for a certain time and then the problem reappears. Gnokii

Hi Group I'm trying to get the Gnokii to send SMS when we obtain an error from Hobbit. I have connected a Nokia 3310 and then then Gnokii can send 1 SMS and then it locks up. When I toggle the power to the phone, it can send ons SMS again before it locks up. i have set the type in Gnokii to 6110. Then I have connected a Nokia 6310i with a DLR-3P cable and changed the type i Gnokii to 6110. But - I can't even get a "gnokii --identify" from it. :-( Have any of you this part of Hobbit working with any of the two phones?? Thanks, Jan

Alert Question - Holidays

How do people handle Holidays (and/or vacations) and the alerts? I'm not a programmer but was wondering if it would be possible to add the list of holidays to the hobbit-alert.cfg, have the system read that list, and if the date matches, treat it like a Sunday. Suggestions/Feedback/flames.... --Pat

Starting client at boot

I want the client (and eventually server too) to startup on my monitored machines at bootup. Now I can get the process up and running through init.d as user root but not as hobbit. Whats the simplest way to do: su hobbit /usr/local/hobbit/client/runclient.sh -hostname=xxx At machine boot? Im new to this area of Linux so it's probably very simple and im missing something! Craig

Plotting charts of custom values

Hi All, I'm using BB to track various features of my server application, on of which is message throughput. I can periodically compose a message that contains a string stating how many messages have been processed in, say, one minute. However this only appears as text on the web page. Ideally I'd like to have a plot of throughput in the same way that BB plots memory/CPU usage, etc. How can I do this for my own services? It appears to be a configuration setting on the server.
