compiling hobbit client for SunOS 5.5.1

Hi, Our manager would like to know the actual hours downtime: -during working hours and -during maintenance windows. It seems to me that this info can only be obtained if the service was not 100% up during the interval. Then you can drill down to the figure and see the percentage green, red, blue dot etc. If the service is 100% up, I only see the green diamond sign but can not see if the system was actually 100% up and running, or 5% up and running and 95% blue dotted. Any suggestions? Peter

Hobbit client data truncated by server?!

Hi, after reading the docs, searching the list, searching the source code i have no idea, what is going wrong here: Data that is sent by the hobbit client is truncated somewhere. My Hobbit client messages are about 30kB. The client sents the message to the server without loss (verified with netcat). Monitoring the client channel via [clientlogger] CMD hobbitd_channel --channel=client cat in hobbitlaunch.cfg results in: > >DATADATADATA >DATADATADATA >DATADATAD > >... DATA TRUNCATED ... > The received data is cut at approx 10kB. All MSG_* variables that limit communication are clearly above this value (MSG_CLIENT=256*1024). I have set anything to debug with no results. I did not find the place in the source code where the "DATA TRUNCATED" message is generated, so i can't trace back why it is truncated... Help me please! RECOVERED alerts still sent outside of TIME window

Howdy all, We just had one of our engineers get a rude awakening last night by a UPS that had recovered from an error; I had thought that the RECOVERED pages were under the same TIME restrictions as normal alerts, but a quick look at the code leads me to believe that this is not so. Before I (or somebody else ;) attempts a fix, I wanted to make sure that there wasn't a valid reason behind this implementation. OpenLDAP performance and replication monitoring with Hobbit

We run a number of OpenLDAP servers, currently we have about 11 in production (depending how you count clusters) and a few in DR sites etc. We have been doing performance monitoring in the past (ie running scripts via snmp, monitoring with mrtg), but it seemed logical to move it to Hobbit and do everything in one place (useful for the syncrepl monitoring below). We have two separate instances that we manage, only one currently uses Hobbit for production monitoring (the other installation has hobbit installed, which is publicly accessible at present, but isn't used for production monitoring). The instance with the publicly accessible installation has OpenLDAP 2.1 and 2.2 servers, the other one has OpenLDAP 2.3 servers (using sync replication). So, I have written an extension script using perl-ldap (and Date::Manip) which we are now using via Hobbit's ncv module for performance monitoring. Replication status of sync-repl slaves is also checked (green for in sync, yellow for out of sync, clear if the sync-repl master could not be contacted to check the contextCSN, green if it is not a sync-repl slave). For slaves using sync-repl (no examples publicly available for now), the "&green Not a syncrepl slave" can be something like: &yellow dc=mydomain,dc=com out of sync 4 weeks 4 days 15:5:11 behind or &green dc=mydomain,dc=com in sync (with one such line for each syncrepl database, we have two or more on our production OL 2.3 boxen) Now, I could s/:/;/g or similar, but it would be nice if there were a way to prevent ncv from parsing a line (since I would also like to be able to graph the CIM extension results with ncv, but it has output and &green/&yellow/&red's all over). hobbitclient on solaris: using iostat for cpu stat

Hi Henrik, I have seen that hobbit clients collects cpu stats via vmstat, now i think that the cpu information provided by "iostat -c" is more accurate, because it has the "%waiting for i/o" columns, wich is also in the linux version of vmstat. do you think you can add this information? -- Gianluca

Disk RRD problem with hobbit-client and OSF1 (Tru64)

Changing the frequency of a specific test

We're currently experiencing a problem with httpd on one of our servers that isn't being caught by hobbit. Is it possible to specify a custom test interval for just one test on one server? The hope is that it'll stand a better chance of catching the problem if it runs, say, every minute rather than every 5 minutes. Hello, I just set up a Hobbit-server for testing, to see if we (hopefully) can "upgrade" from our old bigbrother. One feature we have missed is to be able to set up pages with non-critical/testing/private machines, that wont affect the over-all status of the Hobbit main-page. If one could set this as a page property flag or something ("ignore-in-parent"), that would be superb. Is this perhaps already possible? Also (and please bear over with me on this one), are there any plans on making bb-hosts more structured? I find it difficult to place things where I want them on pages, especially the main page.
