hobbit.sh stop does no kill vmstat

when I do ./hobbit.sh stop, vmstat is not killed: $ ps xw |grep hobbit 26903 ? S 0:00 sh -c vmstat 300 2 1>/users/monitor/local/hobbit/client/tmp/hobbit_vmstat.my-host.26883 2>&1; mv /users/monitor/local/hobbit/client/tmp/hobbit_vmstat.my-host.26883 /users/monitor/local/hobbit/client/tmp/hobbit_vmstat.my-host I noticed that if I do several "hobbit.sh restart", there will be extra vmstat processes running. For now I am manually killing them via "pkill vmstat" (on linux), after I stop or restart Hobbit. -Charles

Feauture request: auditable alarm.

Ive more details now. Ops want an alarm to sound when a system is not pingable. Also they want to able to mute the alarm. So if one system goes down they hear it, turn off the alarm then another system goes down they hear that alarm (and mute it.) FILE checks

Hi all Hope this is not a stupid question :D Just installed the 4.2 beta, its looking good, although I have just one problem so far, and that is with FILE checking. I did setup checks in the hobbit-client.cfg file HOST=cc-1 UP 1h LOAD 5.0 10.0 DISK * 90 95 MEMPHYS 100 101 MEMSWAP 50 80 MEMACT 90 97 PROC apache 1 -1 yellow TRACK=apache PORT STATE=LISTEN LOCAL=%0.0.0.0[.:].* EXLOCAL=%[.:](22|80|443) TRACK=httpd FILE /var/log/messages yellow SIZE>0 MTIME<600 TRACK Everything is working except the graph for the FILE check is not showing up ?... any ideas ? startup script ?

Hi, I was wondering if there is some kind of generic startup/shutdown script that you could generate during build, and which would be copied to /etc/init.d (or the equivalent on each specific system) during the install phase ? Nice work on the beta, I m going to set it up and test it as soon as I get some free time ! logfile monitoring with client side configuration?

Hi, I just installed the new 4.2-beta server and client. It seems that the logfile monitoring is not working when I install a hobbit client with client side configuration. On the client I ran "./configure --client" and selected client side configuration. The clientlaunch.cfg looks like this: [client] ENVFILE $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/etc/hobbitclient.cfg CMD $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/bin/hobbitclient.sh --local ... On the server I specified three logfiles to monitor in the client-local.cfg: [my.client.hostname] log:/var/log/messages:10240 log:/var/log/dsmsched.log:10240 log:/var/log/dsmerror.log:10240 But nothing happens. The logfiles are not touched and there's no logfetch.cfg file in the client's tmp directory. When I configure the client with server side configuration it works. Can I use logfile monitoring with client side configuration? -- Regards, Dirk Kastens

Please help me understand this

I want to make sure I understand how the badTEST directive in the bb-host file works. If I have something like this: 10.10.10.10 foobar # !telnet ssh noconn badssh:1:1:2 I read the documentation to work like this: Interval 1--------------Interval 2 -------------Interval 3 00:00 00:05 00:10 0 minutes 5 minutes 5 minutes Success Failure Failure Green Yellow Red At 00:00 an ssh test is done and is successful. The next polling interval is at 00:05 and the 10 second time-out is hit and the ssh test fails. Due to the badssh directive the test will turn yellow in Hobbit. The next polling cycle is at 00:10 and the 10 second time-out is reached for the ssh test and this time a RED alert is generated because it is the second failure (referred to as the z variable in the documentation). Is this understanding correct? Are network tests only done once? OK Thanks, Actual it WAS my problem, I had the wav in a place it couldn't always be found. [hobbit] Hobbit 4.2 - beta release 20060605 available

Hi, I am trying to get the automatic client update to work. So far with no luck. In the client data i see that there is no version number. In the hobbitclient.sh I see that he does a clientupdate --level. I get an empty line. Looking in the clientupdate.c file I see he a CLIENTVERSIONFILE "etc/clientversion.cfg". I am not having that file and i don't see it in the distribution. Any ideas how it should work? Documentation about this subject is still very small, for the rest it's a great product! Peter Jakobs

This is a little script that will play a wav if the background if red. It has the statment in it: If ( "&BBBACKGROUND" == "red" ) This works on the main top level page but not on pages under it.
