Hello, can anybody help me to set up an alert?! If I want to check the SERVICE "disk" on the client "galway" I cannot set the keyword COLOR to "yellow". sending data to hobbitd?

I have scripts ready to send data to hobbitd using a raw socket on port 1984 and I have previously sent status messages to hobbitd (status HOST.TEST COLOR MESSAGE). I'm still trying to get the trending and graphing working. How do I format the message to look like the data is coming from the client side of hobbitd? I'm currently trying: open a socket BBDISPLAY:1984 send '@' send my data that looks like output from hobbitclient-linux.sh flush socket close socket Mike

Every 5 minutes I see the same error in my hobbitclient.log file: Failed to get a message, terminating hobbit-client appears to be running fine, and reporting to the hobbit server. In my case I've been tasked with running a hobbit instance in parallel with an existing bb4 instance ON THE SAME HOST. I've modified my hobbitserver.cfg to run on port 1985 but I get the same error in /var/log/hobbitlaunch.log as David observed. defining ext scripts from server - feature request

I have an environment where I have many many machines that all have a common filesystem (for the most part). So far Hobbit has been wonderful in that is gracefully handles having a shared hobbit client home directory, by the clients writing their logfiles with the hostname as part of the filename, etc. One problem I am having though, is ext tests. If I create an ext test for one machine, it ends up running on them all. It would be nice if we could define from the hobbit server, which ext tests were to be run. For example, in the hobbitclients.cfg, if you could do something like: HOST=somehost PROC "/some/proc/specific/to/this/host" DISK /web 95 98 *EXT $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/ext/some_ext.sh INTERVAL 5m* This would be really handy because then only the client you defined would run that ext script. In the meantime, I am getting around this by doing this at the top of my ext scripts: HOSTNAME=`/bin/hostname` if [ 'myhost' != $HOSTNAME ]; then #Only run on myhost exit 0 fi This makes the script gracefully exit on the clients that I do not want to run it. -Charles

LOG checks

Hello all, I want to check some log files like "var/spool/messages" and I can see the entries off the file on the webpage, but I cannot test something to change the color of the side. In my test case I want to change the color to red when the string syslogd appears in the /var/log/messages. I do a kill -HUP on the syslogd to generate the needed entry. After the kill command I can see the syslogd entry in the message file on the webside, but nothing happens with the color :-( On the server machine hobbit is running with the following configuration. DOWNTIME tag question

I'm just starting to use Hobbit for monitoring. The DOWNTIME tag I have a question with. I had this: 129.21.35.49 sc3oracle02 # ssh oracle:COBDPROD DOWNTIME=*:0244:0546:Backups COMMENT:"<font size=-1>cobddb</font> The Database went down at 2:45am, however things went Red. The data to be graphed can come also in the status message and not only in data messages. The way you send data I think is wrong, you cannot send more messages in one like it could be done with combo messages of bb you've to send one message at a time and to graph cpu the better think you can do is to see exactly what is sended to hobbit by the client cpu module and send exactly the same thing. For example: If you send a status message that contains: Thu Sep 28 12:04:17 2006 up: 9 days, 19:07 CPU Usage= 78% The cpu rrd module will get the CPU Usage and put the number into the rrd. If you know a bit of C you can check the source in hobbitd/rrd to check what the various rrd modules want to get as data. To get data out of data message and into rrd you also need to define what to get from there via ncv for example.
