Hobbit-folk, Well, I was able to work around this problem by pointing at another DNS server. It turns out that I had a few hosts that would not resolve. At least they don't resolve on the DNS server that I changed over to. What made me suspicious was that the last entry in the log file was something about "Got DNS...." which ceased after the last good host. So, Henrik, the timeout on the ARES code is not working any more? Or is not reliable? GLH

Problem with cgi

Everything is up and running but when I tryied to put up anything that is requiring cgi file it will now work. It puts this error below in the apache error logs. I wrote a test cgi script and it works so apache config is correct. Also the libpcre**** files are all there. I am running on Solaris 10. Bbtest-net hanging on Solaris, too

Hobbit-folk -- did anyone get to the bottom of the "bbtest-net" hang problem? I saw that someone reported this under Linux a couple of weeks ago. I am using Solaris 8, and I am getting about the same problem -- and out of the blue, too. I am using 4.2.0 with some (not all) of the patches applied. Henrik, let me know what you need -- I have debug log files and a core dump. According to the debug file, it runs a bunch DNS queries and then stops. The prstat commands says that it is sleeping -- no CPU. I restarted the entire Hobbit server and it worked for about 15 minutes and then died again. Sure would like to have some ideas about what to do...meanwhile I will keep banging on it. GLH

Monitoring Solaris 10 zones

All, We're just putting some zones into a production environment and as yet we don't have a way to monitor them, we could stick the client inside the zone but I feel that is a waste of resources, so, I have come up with a solution. I have an ext script that queries zoneadm list to get the list of currently running zones (except global) then run zlogin with various commands to pull out pretty much what the hobbitclient-sunos.sh script would do, then send it off to the hobbit server. It requires the hobbit user be put in /etc/user_attr so hobbit can login as zone admin on any zone, but works well. I havn't put some of the stuff into it though, mainly because the way we run zones here they will only ever be mounting local filesystems and as such the disk checks will be managed under the global zone. So if anyone would like a copy of the quick and dirty hack, drop me a mail. Problem with LOG test

Hello, I have a problem to test many log file on a linux client. I test a log file with word cirtical and major but hobbit doesn't send any alarm when this log file contains message with this key words. Not only by discussion... We started by documenting the current AS-IS state of all the different monitoring systems/tools in use within our company. Every location/group had her "own" way of monitoring. But because we are in a growing phase our IT has been put on a Global basis. Therefor we need a common monitoring environment to be able to report the same KPI's, watch the same SLA's and very important, to give remote support 24 x 7 by "Following-the-sun" It was a really hard piece of work to get all the pieces together. What is currently monitored? What has to be monitored in the future? How works the alarm escalation ... ? Even harder was to get the quotes from the "big" vendors (HP, IBM, CA...) After compiling all together it became clear, that we really have no desire to spend 150k€ on a piece of software that does 20% of what you want, with a 30k€/year maintenance fee..Ouch So we looked closer to the open source products. Our decision to implement Hobbit, at least as an interim solution, was based on the fact that we already have bigbrother systems running at two locations. Why shouldn't we use the exisitng knowledge? (and by the way they are working very well!) If we can get commercial support for hobbit we will probably go with it. How to configure Clients

Hello, I'm using hobbit since mondy this week and now I run in problems how to configure various checks on various clients. Ok, I built a hobit server sucsessfully. The network tests works all fine. But now I have to check disk space and procs on two other machines. I've installed the client on each machine but I cannot configure the warnlevel or paniclevel of these clients or procs at all. It seems, that only entries in the server located file "hobbit-clients.cfg" takes care? My problem is, that I have to use different levels on each client machine! Whats wrong with my configuration?
