I sure did not play with any html code to make the output like this. Also I saw an email about keeping the full log link in the web gui for easy troubleshooting. But is that also apply to email. In otherwords can I just receive alert related lines and not the full log underneath. OR do I need to define SMS in hobbit-alerts.cfg page to achieve that? Hi everyone! Attached follows a "login"/generic server-side script made on bash shell-script language. This script is just like the perl version, just made in a generic way to be easily extensible... I made this version because i couldn't get the perl version to work on my Gentoo server with perl 5.8.8, not to mention that i know perl as much as i know how to build nuclear submarines ;-) With best regards, -- Giovanni M. rrd error messages

Greetings, I am getting a lot of errors in the rrd-status.log file. There are 2 actually that are appearing at an alarming frequency (and have been for quite a while): 2007-05-21 09:42:52 RRD error updating /var/hobbit/data/rrd/client.purdue.edu/disk,export,video.rrd from 128.210.xxx.xxx: unknown consolidation function '^?<F8>' 2007-05-21 09:42:52 RRD error updating /var/hobbit/data/rrd/client.purdue.edu/memory.real.rrd from 128.210.xxx.xxx: illegal attempt to update using time 1179754972 when last update time is 2146959360 (minimum one second step) Note that the system time on the hobbit server and on the clients are all synchronized with xntpd so the clocks aren't different. I am also having some trouble with a lot of NAN values in the disk history graphs. I'm wondering a) how to fix these errors, and b) if the errors have anything to do with not getting good data in the graphs. Thanks, Steve Holmes

Lets say I have the following bb-hosts file: page servers subpage Web Web Servers 1.2.3.4 Web01.domain.com # 1.2.3.5 Web02.domain.com # Subpage Other Other Web Servers 0.0.0.0 Web02.domain.com # And now I have the following hobbit-alerts.cfg: PAGE=servers/Other SERVICE=conn MAIL coolguy at domain.com COLOR=red,yellow Now I run the command, "bin/bbcmd hobbitd_alert --test Web02.domain.com conn", I see: 2007-03-30 15:09:38 Using default environment file ..../server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg 00000897 2007-03-30 15:09:38 send_alert Web02.domain.com:conn state Paging 00000897 2007-03-30 15:09:38 Matching host:service:page 'Web02.domain.com:conn:server/Web' against rule line 119 00000897 2007-03-30 15:09:38 Failed 'PAGE=servers/Other SERVICE=conn' (pagename not in include list) So it seems when using PAGE= alert rules only honor the first page a device is listed on. Is this by design ?

Single notification.

Is it possible to set up hobbit to send only a singe notification/resolution message for a host that may have multiple issues? If I have a host that has 6 monitors, if the host goes down (or some other large problem that trips those monitors) there is a message sent for each of the 6. If I disable the monitoring on that host, I then receive 6 individual 'resolved' messages. This problem multiplies the more hosts I have being monitored. Is there a way to have only a single notification/resolution for an individual host that contains all the messages that would normally be sent separately? Also, when I disable a monitor for a host, can that action NOT send a 'resolved' message but still leave the resolved messages in place? Thanks in advance.

Custom graphs: RRD database won't populate

I'm trying to do my first custom graph, using data collected from a custom script. The script collects data fine, and successfully updates hobbit at it's regular five minute increments. The data as sent looks like this: five : 17 ten : 24 fifteen : 30 twenty : 42 thirty : 62 fortyfive : 81 sixty : 108 ninety : 166 onetwenty : 218 oneeighty : 349 The column name is 'recent'. Here's BBHOSTS: group-only recent|pending|stuck Maestro 0.0.0.0 maestro_alarm_cases # prefer noconn recent pending stuck NAME:"Alarm Cases" and hobbitserver.cfg: TEST2RRD="cpu=la,disk,inode,qtree,memory,<more stuff>,ports,clock,lines,recent=ncv" NCV_recent="five:GAUGE,ten:GAUGE,fifteen:GAUGE,twenty:GAUGE,thirty:GAUGE ,fortyfive:GAUGE,sixty:GAUGE,ninety:GAUGE,onetwenty:GAUGE,oneeighty:GAUG E" I stopped/started hobbit server. I've been watching the 'recent' column update regularly every five minutes, for at least 45 minutes now. But there doesn't appear to be any RRD data file for this 'recent' test: find /development/hobbit/data/rrd -name "*recent*" -print The above 'find' command finds nothing related to 'recent' (although there are plenty of OTHER test's RRD files in that directory - default tests - just not my custom test) I must have missed something simple. I've gone over the hobbit webserver's HTML help on "Custom Graphs" several times, but can't find the cause of my error.

Save yourself the trouble and either grab one of the pre-compiled Hobbit packages, or download the GNU gcc compiler and use that to build Hobbit and the libraries it needs. Bug in custom graphs using existing rrds

Hi everyone, I made a custom graph called "eth0/eth1/eth2/ethX", i've just used the RRD from ifstat (ifstat.eth0.rrd) and voilá! it works! A separate graph for every interface... But... This graphs don't appears in trends page, just if i see manually using hobbitgraph.sh. After a few hours of research, i've discovered that the trends problem is the name of the graph comparing with the name of the rrdfile... If i rename the graph to "ifstat" it works... or just symlinking ifstat.eth0.rrd to eth0.rrd. Hobbit uses a certain way to find out if the graph is active/exists or not, maybe is that the problem, the way to do that... comparing the graph name to the rrd file. Maybe someway to force a graph appears in trends page ? Don't know... For now i've just symlinked everything, lol. Any thoughts ? Henrik ? :-) With best regards, -- Giovanni M. Frainer

I tried accessing cpu from the main screen and it failed. Here is the access_log entry. [hobbit] HPUX hobbit client install problem

I installed pcre from a software depot file and ran MAKE=/usr/local/bin/gmake ./configure.client and received the following error: Checking for the PCRE libraries Checking for PCRE ... gmake: gcc: Command not found gmake: *** [test-compile] Error 127 ERROR: PCRE include files found in /usr/local/include, but compile fails. Any ideas?
