Version Hobbit Monitor - 4.2.0 How do I go about getting rid of duplicates - for instance one of my clients, if I click the info button, in the Alerting area, I will see duplicate entries for conn, disk, ports that are exactly the same: There will be 2 conn, 2 disk, 2 ports, 2 procs with the same recipient, same delays, etc. If I search any of the files on the server, there is only that one client name. Out of all the clients I have 4 that are doing this. One has 4 of the same entries. The other 3 have 2 entries each. Each name is different.

Speaking of weird disk alerts... I have been getting alarms like this lately, on various Solaris hosts at random times... The first line where the hostname should be is corrupted as well though. This usually only happens once, next disk check reports green as usual with correct data. Hello Kevin. As I understand your problem, you want one central server that contains everything that other servers in your organization monitor. (Useful when you have multiple clients on different sites that do not have access straight to the internet or the main hobbit server) This is something that I had to do a lot of investigation and testing to get it to function properly. The solution is a right mixture of hobbitd and bbproxy by using two ports on the server. Let me go into more detail. First the theory: You should have two ports open on the server, one for the bbproxy that will send out messages to two servers, localhost and the remote server. I chose 1984 (default) and 1985. So when the bbproxy receives a message from a client, it forwards it to the local host AND the external server, however there is one problem with this, all the network tests (done locally) get screwed up! The solution to this would be to have a different configuration file for those tests. Second, configuration settings: Start by copying your hobbitserver.cfg to another file, hobbitserverproxy.cfg, this enables the network tests to know where to send information. (The file should only have one ip address in BBSERVERIP, the eth0 IP. It should have the BBPORT 1984, it should contain BBDISP as $BBSERVERIP and BBDISPLAYS should be empty.) Now, on to editing the original hobbitserver.cfg. BBSERVERIP should be "127.0.0.1", BBPORT should be 1985, BBDISP should be "0.0.0.0" and BBDISPLAYS should be "$BBSERVERIP 12.34.56.78" (the ip of your external hobbit server). Now edit hobbitlaunch.cfg In the section [hobbitd], you should add '-listen=127.0.0.1:1985' to the CMD. The ENVFILE should stay the same. In the section [bbproxy], you should comment out the DISABLED line. Change the ENVFILE to the hobbitserverproxy.cfg file. Change the CMD and add '--bbdisplay=127.0.0.1:1985,12.34.56.78' (the ip of your external hobbit server) after the '--hobbitd' option. In the sections [bbnet] and [bbretest] you should change ENVFILE to hobbitserverproxy.cfg. Third, restarting hobbit: /etc/init.d/hobbitd restart Easy as pie :-) Hope you can use this information.. website login-help Needed.

HI hobbit gurus, Is there any way that we can monitor website logins. I know there is a way if the URL requires authentication we can use http://USERNAME:PASSWORD at www.sample.com/ If URL does not require authentication (uname and passwd) to get the page. But after get the page it has SIGN IN boxes which I need to check periodically by giving username and password. is this possible using hobbit. Please help here. The only I/O measurement built into Hobbit is the data collected from "vmstat", which gives you an overall measure of the amount of time spent waiting for disk I/O. This graph is not displayed by default; you can make them appear on the "trends" page by adding TRENDS:*,vmstat:vmstat1|vmstat5 to each of the host entries in bb-hosts. That will give you a "CPU utilisation" graph that includes the I/O wait time, and a "Block I/O" graph showing the number of blocks read from/written to a disk device. Weird disk alert with bad data

We recently got the AIX client working with our Hobbit server. I then had to apply a patch to rrd/do_vmstat.c to fix a problem with rrd crashing due to an uninitialized variable coming from the AIX client. Despite that, I'm still seeing a weird problem. One of the other non-AIX clients will have their disk check to to red alert. When, I take a look at it, the disks are fine. However, the data being processed by rrd is off by a few characters which seems to be what is causing the red alert to be generated. It will last for an hour or so, then will go green again and the problem will move to a different non-AIX client. When I remove the three AIX clients from bb-hosts, the problem disappears. So, it seems to be pretty clearly related to the AIX client, though is affecting other alerts. Any thoughts on what to do? Have we stumbled onto another bug? Martha
