Hi all Is there any way to define a graph definition for values that may or may not be available. Let's work with CPU temperature, just as an example. In hobbitserver.cfg, I can define this NCV_systemp="*:GAUGE" (And the other ncv definitions) It then generates rrd files for all the servers. However, some systems have 1 cpu, some have 2, and some 4. So the rrd files only have entries for the number of CPUs. In the hobbitgraph.cfg we can define the graph, with 4 cpu temperatures, but if the rrd file doesn't contain 4 fields (i.e. system has only 2 CPUs), it doesn't generate a graph. It is also not possible to have a separate graph definition for 1, 2 and 4 CPU systems. The other way round it, is to have each CPU in a separate file, and define FNPATTERN= with a wildcard. Weird disk errors....the sequel

I was premature in thinking that Stef's patch solved the problem. However, I've narrowed down the cause. Turns out, it isn't related to the AIX client in general. Its related to one AIX server specifically. This server has a huge number of ports connected, which is a problem we have to deal with, but can't do much about right now. Meanwhile, the number of ports is causing the hobbit server issues. Here's the error messages we get on the hobbitd test: Latest errormessages: Oversize data/client msg from 148.100.11.11 truncated (n=1269789, limit 524288) First line: ldapb|aix|aix| Oversize status msg from 148.100.11.11 for ldapb:ports truncated (n=513615, limit=262144) I think this issue is, in turn, causing the false alerts we are seeing elsewhere. When I remove this server from the bb-hosts config, that problem goes away. Is there a way I can turn off the ports test for this one server? Or, can I limit how much data the client sends to Hobbit server? Any other suggestions? Martha

Version Hobbit Monitor - 4.2.0 How do I go about getting rid of duplicates - for instance one of my clients, if I click the info button, in the Alerting area, I will see duplicate entries for conn, disk, ports that are exactly the same: There will be 2 conn, 2 disk, 2 ports, 2 procs with the same recipient, same delays, etc. If I search any of the files on the server, there is only that one client name. Out of all the clients I have 4 that are doing this. One has 4 of the same entries. The other 3 have 2 entries each. Each name is different.

Speaking of weird disk alerts... I have been getting alarms like this lately, on various Solaris hosts at random times... The first line where the hostname should be is corrupted as well though. This usually only happens once, next disk check reports green as usual with correct data. [hobbit] client data wont report to 2nd server

Hello Kevin. As I understand your problem, you want one central server that contains everything that other servers in your organization monitor. (Useful when you have multiple clients on different sites that do not have access straight to the internet or the main hobbit server) This is something that I had to do a lot of investigation and testing to get it to function properly. The solution is a right mixture of hobbitd and bbproxy by using two ports on the server. Let me go into more detail. First the theory: You should have two ports open on the server, one for the bbproxy that will send out messages to two servers, localhost and the remote server. I chose 1984 (default) and 1985. So when the bbproxy receives a message from a client, it forwards it to the local host AND the external server, however there is one problem with this, all the network tests (done locally) get screwed up! The solution to this would be to have a different configuration file for those tests. Second, configuration settings: Start by copying your hobbitserver.cfg to another file, hobbitserverproxy.cfg, this enables the network tests to know where to send information. (The file should only have one ip address in BBSERVERIP, the eth0 IP. It should have the BBPORT 1984, it should contain BBDISP as $BBSERVERIP and BBDISPLAYS should be empty.) Now, on to editing the original hobbitserver.cfg. BBSERVERIP should be "127.0.0.1", BBPORT should be 1985, BBDISP should be "0.0.0.0" and BBDISPLAYS should be "$BBSERVERIP 12.34.56.78" (the ip of your external hobbit server). Now edit hobbitlaunch.cfg In the section [hobbitd], you should add '-listen=127.0.0.1:1985' to the CMD. The ENVFILE should stay the same. In the section [bbproxy], you should comment out the DISABLED line. Change the ENVFILE to the hobbitserverproxy.cfg file. Change the CMD and add '--bbdisplay=127.0.0.1:1985,12.34.56.78' (the ip of your external hobbit server) after the '--hobbitd' option. In the sections [bbnet] and [bbretest] you should change ENVFILE to hobbitserverproxy.cfg. Third, restarting hobbit: /etc/init.d/hobbitd restart Easy as pie :-) Hope you can use this information.. website login-help Needed.

HI hobbit gurus, Is there any way that we can monitor website logins. I know there is a way if the URL requires authentication we can use http://USERNAME:PASSWORD at www.sample.com/ If URL does not require authentication (uname and passwd) to get the page. But after get the page it has SIGN IN boxes which I need to check periodically by giving username and password. is this possible using hobbit. Please help here.
