http-test timeout

Dear All, is there a way to change the timeout for http-tests. I am testing my webminserver and often the responsetime is between 10 and 13 seconds. The http-test is very often red. I ma new to xymon/hobbit... centralized management of clientlaunch.cfg

I have a number of custom scripts spread across multiple machines; I understand how to configure them in clientlaunch.cfg but I would like to keep them in a single config file (it's impractical to maintain this many individual configs). Has anyone written a tool to manage push/pull of the configs and generating individual hobbit-clients.cfg, or otherwise duplicate what bb-bbexttab did? -Lachlan

alerty alerts

I have a client where EVERY time that it contacts the server with a yellow or red I want to run a script. hobbit-alerts.cfg only seems to want to fire off a rule when the status CHANGES, not every time. Suggestions? Thanks, Jon

Client port question

Hey guys, I have been asked to monitor a web server in our DMZ; I was able to load and start the client but am only displaying the ping test; the network engineer asked which ports I needed opened to allow the client to pass data to the host. I can not find that information, I have looked in the man pages and the hobbit monitor doc no luck. Can someone assist? . Thanks in advance for your help. Start XYmon at boot in Ubuntu...

Hi! I haven't found any way to start XYmon automatically at boot time... It need to be started by user hobbit, and when I used update-rc it was added in the startscripts, but I can't figure out how to get it started by user hobbit... Hello All! I have the following setup for hobbit / xymon.: Linux Fedora 9 and Hobbitserver 4.2.2-RC1 I was able to successfully install hobbit and it shows up in a browser with the configured hosts. the problem i am having is with viewing CURRENT status. Whenever i click the icon for status, i get a blank white page with "Status not Available". HISTORY functions however work. I suspected it be a permission problem so I set all files to global 777 and even tried chown all of em to apache. Obviously this is in a test env but even with the completely wide open perm, still same issue. The bb-hostcvs.sh returns status not available but nothing is written to the hobbit or apache log files that would give an idea as to why this is happening. Does anybody have any ideas? THANKS!!!

Hi i have troubles with a client hobbit and an ext monitor for 3510 (bb-3510fc.pl). seems that it needs to be lounched with a setuid (as root), ...allright but at the line exec "$BBHOME/bin/bb $BBDISP \"$LINE\""; i get this error: Insecure dependency in exec while running with -T switch at /dev/fd/4 line 269 Something with perl? any idea? delete this hobbit client and install a big brother one ? regards.

client data compression

Given we are effectively transferring pure text data from place to place, the CPU overhead of compressing/de-compressing the data should be minimal, and the bandwidth advantage (for non-lan) are significant... Taking the most recent file for each machine in my hostdata directory, and adding it up I get 1137kB or 116720MB / year or 9.5GB/month ... Copying each of the most recent files to a temp folder, I get: Raw data per 5 mins: 1137 /tmp/hobbitdata gzip data per 5 mins: 389 /tmp/hobbitdata bz2 data per 5 mins: 385 /tmp/hobbitdata So, from the above, I could change from using 9.5GB/mth to 9.5 * 385/1137 = 3.2 GB.... that would be a saving of around $19 per month for me.... Anyone else feel like calculating how much this is worth to them?
