I have a system (Gentoo) running hobbit. I have installed the 4.20 with the all-in-one patch. The system is using nullmailer as my preferred MTA. It is a very small, minimal qmail-like MTA run under daemontools. /usr/sbin/sendmail is the 'wrapper' for email submissions, but it does not accept a subject on the command line (eg: -s "this is the subject") the way the sendmail does: --[snip]-- # sendmail -h sendmail: option -h requires a value. usage: sendmail [flags] [recipients] <message Nullmailer sendmail emulator -B Ignored -b Ignored -C Ignored -d Ignored -F Set the full name of the sender -f Set the envelope sender address -h Ignored -i Ignored -L Ignored -m Ignored -N Ignored -n Ignored -O Ignored -o Ignored -p Ignored -q Ignored -R Ignored -r An alternate and obsolete form of the -f flag -t Read message for recipients -U Ignored -V Ignored -v Ignored -X Ignored -h, --help Display this help and exit --[snip]-- It requires that the email message being sent to (through?) it contains a "Subject:" line in the header. Without me changing to another MTA, is there a way to tell hobbit that this is what I need? Changing would be OK if that was the only way forme to get hobbit to send me notifications. DOWNTIME and GROUP??

Hi all, I have a small group of servers that have regularly scheduled maintenance every Thursday and Saturday. They all have 3 sets of processes to be monitored with different blackout periods. So one set is 24x7, no blackout (simple), another set has a blackout period that starts earlier than the other (around 6PM), and the last set has a blackout period that starts later than the other (around 8PM). I thought about using GROUP to group all the early processes together and the same for the late processes. Now how do I specify a DOWNTIME entry in the bb-hosts file? From the bb-hosts man page DOWNTIME=[columns:]day:starttime:endtime:cause[,day:starttime:endtime:ca use]. If I put procs in the DOWNTIME columns, will Hobbit know to use the GROUP functions described in hobbit-alerts.cfg? Any help/insight would be appreciated Thanks -Grs- Gregory R Shea EMC Corporation

Hobbit client - FreeBSD 7

Hi all, I have been requested recently to install FreeBSD clients. Version is: 7.0-RELEASE FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE #0. I have the client running, but see some issues with the trends. Disk & Memory trends are missing. Vmstat trends graph data incorrectly, since it expects the vmstat data in a different order. I was curious if anyone else monitors FreeBSD devices and if the problems I am seeing are related to the new 7.0 release. Or are these issues with older versions of FreeBSD 6.x or 5.x. Your feedback is appreciated, ~Steve

As you can see this gives me visibility into errors only, as I regularly check over my logs for oddities in warnings. The last time BBWIN hung on our two servers 1 reported 340 out of 1400+ messages matched, the other report 748 out of 2589 matched. I am the Unix guy in the shop. I brought hobbit on-board. Then restart bbwin service. I am having this trouble with an Exchange server and the source is that its logging very much in the system log and that seems to piss off the bbwin client. Same issue with BBWIN 0.9 and 0.10.. have not tried 0.11 yet. This happens 2-3 times a week. Hope this helps, Larus BBWin should not have this behavior. I would need theses informations : Are you running BBWin with central or local mode ? Do you have some columns which turn to purple color ? Could you check the msgs columns to see how many events are reported ? Could you try to run BBWin for a week without these agents : stats.dll, msgs.dll (and filesystem.dll if you are running the central mode) to see if the behavior is the same or not ?
