[hobbit] Latest snapshot [2008-07-18] issues

I just compiled and installed the latest Hobbit snapshot (July 18, 2008), and I'm noticing a couple minor issues (so far). 1) [very minor] The Hobbit version number is still showing as "*Hobbit Monitor 4.3.0-0.20080403 <http://hobbitmon.sourceforge.net/>*" 2) Clicking on "info" displays "Internal Server Error" for the Hobbit server. However, he "info" page displays fine on the one client I have on the Hobbit test server. Note that the previous Hobbit snapshot I was testing (2008-06-30) was showing "Internal Server Error" for any of the client "info" pages.

Anna, and All actual here how I modified your script. Basicly I put a do loop around Anna version that parses a config file: params.lm. This is a list we use for an existing flexlm tracker. With entries that look like: 'MATLAB_7.0_mysys 1700 at mysys' Ok I've not the time to explain in detail but here are the key point ${LMSTATDIR}/lmstat -a -c $LIC Where $LIC is the last field on the line I actually use the first field as $MACHINE and parse out the licencesname from $MACHINE into TEST TEST is very important as this sets the column name which MUST match the graph! The very bad part of my scheme is if I want graphs I need for each license type MATLAB Maple LSF etc add/add-on 3 lines trends="................LSF= GRAPHS="..............LSF" NCV_LSF="*:GAUGE" Since my user are used to seeing a table formated like: MATLAB_7.0_mysys today# thisweeks# lastweek# ..... Guess I may as well ask my other burning question while I'm posting today... Based on the following hobbit-clients.cfg file, I believe I should be seeing monitoring of inetinfo.cfg and yet in the procs column I'm seeing "no process to check". What am I missing here? Questions about Windows event log monitoring

Greetings. I'm still working a few things out with my Hobbit config. I'm using Hobbit 4.2 and BBWin .12. At the moment I'm trying to sort out how to filter on logs by machine. For example, none of the "LOG" statements in the following hobbit-clients.cfg file have any effect. Another related question I have is regarding the HOST name field. I'm using the hostnames specified by the "client:" tag from bb-hosts as opposed to the fully qualified name. Is that correct (it didn't seem to work when I tried the FQ name either for that matter.) I'm using centralized mode. Should I be using local mode instead for Windows event log filtering? Also, how do I specify a specific event log name? Do I use the evt file name itself? Do I need to include the path to it? Trigger doesn't work in my client-local.cfg

Hi, We configured Hobbit to monitor a server.log file on client, one application keeps outputting a lot of data into it. Now we found a problem: a string (OutOfMemoryError) we want to check did exist in log, but wasn't reported to server, we found the root reason is Hobbit client only sends partial data to server (since data added a lot during every 5 mins). According to Hobbit's man page, this can be fixed by adding trigger: The trigger PATTERN line (optional) is used only when there is more data in the log than the maximum size set in the "log:FILENAME:SIZE" line. The "trigger" pattern is then used to find particularly interesting lines in the logfile - these will always be sent to the Hobbit server. After picking out the "trigger" lines, any remaining space up to the maximum size is filled in with the most recent entries from the logfile. "PATTERN" is a regular expression. For example in our client-local.cfg: [our server] log: /var/log/server.log:10240 trigger Error But it didn't work! I tried replacing "trigger Error" with "trigger %Error", Hobbit client still only reported partial data. I'm thinking two possible reasons: 1. The regular expression I wrote is wrong. 2. Hobbit client only checks last xxxxx bytes of monitoring file. Does anyone have met same issues? Really appreciate if you could share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks, Samuel Cai

Hobbit appears to be causing this syslog message on my AIX 5.3 clients: Jul 17 08:24:42 daytona auth|security:err|error tsm: /dev/pts/2: 3004-004 You must "exec" login from the lowest login shell. It is not affecting my AIX 5.2 clients. Iptrace shows the Hobbit server checking ftp, ssh, telnet, etc. during the time of the error logged. Has anyone else seen this?
