The client simply sends data and connects to port 1984 (default) on the server. If it is displayed is dependent on the server's bb-host config. The "System failure of the ping test" sounds to me like the hobbit user can't execute fping. See if your /sbin/fping can be executed by hobbit. getting the new "temperature.sh" script working with hobbit

I'm trying to get the new "temperature.sh" script (v5.0) from deadcat working with hobbit, but I notice that it has several new columns that are interfering with the hobbitd_larrd plotting. My question is basically, what files would I have to modify to get the plotting correct, and would that require a recompile? Hi All Should newbies write in this mailsgroup? Could someone explain me or to give me ideas how to receive infos from client? The bb-host and hobbit-clients.cfg are configured. The ping between server and client are running and the both system can connected each others without problem! The problem is that the server receive a grey point in the field conn (: conn ok : System failure of the ping test!)? The green smiley infos and trends are the unique infos....? Is there a better documentation than the manpages? I need to have a better overview...! Best regards, Jérôme M. Meyer

Configuration question

Hello. I'm attempting to set up Hobbit 4.2 on a Debian box (very clean - Hobbit is the only thing it's doing.) I followed all the directions - loaded the prerequisites, patched with the all-in-one patch, added the hobbit-specific lines into apache2.conf, etc. It compiled and installed just fine, and the service starts. But when I go to the http://localhost/hobbit page, I get a "404 not found" error. The apache2.conf file points to the ~hobbit/server/www directory but I don't see any html files there or in the subdirectory "html" under that. In the hobbitlaunch.log I see a number of "Task bbdisplay terminated by signal 6"... not sure if that's related. Any thoughts? I'm starting to run out of options to try. Another alert color?, and NCV alerts

Hi All, Two questions: QUESTION #1: Is it possible to have a third color alert? Meaning: One of my customers wants a setup like this: Custom script runs on client server, reports: foo : 80 for example. They want less than 85 to be green, 85-90 yellow, 90-95 red, and above 95 any color, say orange. So far as I can tell, I can only use green, yellow, and red for alerts, and blue and purple are reserved. QUESTION #2: lets say #1 above is possible, so my script sends hobbit the status line based on the it sees, with the status of green, yellow, red, and orange. The hobbit server recieves it, and uses the NCV module to build the rrd etc.. In hobbit-alerts.cfg to say does the SERVICE keyword work for custom NCV type columns? Thanks.

graphing

I have a question about doing some graphing with a custom script that I am putting together. What I will have is a table similar to the if_load table with the cisco devices in devmon but in my table I am wanting to have a column with links to the graphs so that I can click on them and have them pull up the graphs instead of having them shown down at the bottom. Can I have hobbit create the rrd files via my script but just not put anything into the hobbitgraph.cfg, so that no graphs show at the bottom of the page and then use the rrd files to show my graphs? Hi Bill Apologies for mailing direct, but there is a lag on our outgoing mail to mailing lists. I didn't think you wanted to wait 7 hours for a reply. (I included the list so we can all see the solution) Have a look at the hobbit man page, hobbit-client.cfg section. If all your Windows server host names start with win then you can use HOST=%^win.* LOAD 80 95 But it is most likely they do not. >From the man page PAGE=targetstring Rule matching an alert by the name of the page in BB. "targetstring" is the path of the page as defined in the bb-hosts file. EXPAGE=targetstring Rule excluding a host if the pagename matches. CLASS=classname Rule match by the client class-name. You specify the class-name for a host when starting the client through the "--class=NAME" option to the runclient.sh script. If no class is specified, the host by default goes into a class named by the operating system. EXCLASS=classname Exclude all hosts belonging to "classname" from this rule. These are probably the ones that will interest you most. What we have done, is under our default definitions we have #DEFAULT HOST=* EXHOST=firewall,sec01 EXCLASS=win32 EXPAGE=%win/* (This includes all hosts, except the firewall & security server, all win32 servers, and all hosts listed in /win/* All of our Windows servers are listed under sub-pages of the win page. These pages and sub-pages, are as defined in bb-hosts. Example from bb-hosts ---snip--- page win Windows Servers subpage win_prod_dc Domain Controllers 3.4.5.4 DC05 # subpage win_prod_fps File/Print 3.4.5.5 FPS01 # subpage win_prod_mls Exchange 3.4.5.6 MAIL01 # 3.4.5.7 MAIL02 # subpage win_prod Production 3.4.5.8 PROD01 # 3.4.5.9 PROD02 # ---snip--- Since all of these will be listed on web pages that match the regex %win/* They will be excluded from the default definition. configuring bbdisplay server

I have hobbit server: Server1 IP: 192.168.2.2 configured and running as bbtest and bb display, it receive client`s data on port 1987. I have the server in bb-hosts as: 192.168.2.2 server1 #bbd I want to add another machine "server2 IP: 192.168.2.3" in the environment as bbdisplay only .. I want to keep server1 as bbd and bbtest and another bbdisplay as well. I don`t want server2 to perform any network testing. What I need to change on both machines.?. The other thing , how to keep bb-hosts , hobbit-alerts.cfg in sync in case one of them gets updated.

I use your afs_fsmon monitoring-script ftp://ftp.iastate.edu/pub/bb/ext/afs_fsmon to check our AFS-Fileserver with much success .. :-) But i want also to have the output not only as status-messages besides as Grpahic and have tested much but without success ... :-( And now i read (not the first time, but never recognize) under http://workshop.openafs.org/afsbpw06/talks/gendalia/gendalia-web.html that you've a configuration to do that ! Monitoring * We use hobbit for monitoring * When the http connections on the various web servers start going red en masse... it's usually an afs server problem * So I added "rxdebug $HOST 7000 -noconn -rxstats" to my afs monitoring script, and started alerting on too many calls waiting for a thread. * It was also simple to have all the numbers rxstats generates fed into an rrd, so pretty graphs are available, although calls waiting for a thread is the only one monitored Can i/we share it with you ?!
