I have a feature request: Is there any way to add some kind of marker on the trend charts to record a significant event? For example, if my company makes a major code release and our metrics improve greatly, it would be fanastic if we had the ability to add some kind of line or marker to the trend chart that indicates when we did it so we can show before & after type views of the data. Is that even an option that could be worked into Hobbit? Thanks, Tom

Limited amount of log data

Hi, Trying to set up xymon to capture log data. Once I changed the permission on the var/log/message file, I got -some- data. I am taking the defaults with xymon 4.2.3. I might appear that I only get to see the last 30 minutes of log data. Can this be increased? Second, why does it say No entries in /var/log/messages. Thanks. bb.html rotation

Hi, On the Hobbit front page bb.html i currently have set --subpagecolumns=3 set for the BBGENOPTS configuration in hobbitserver.cfg. This works fine in that it generates 3 columns as I want but every time the page is generated it reverts back to a single column and back to 3 columns and so on... extra-script not executed while sending data from client to RRD

xymon RPMS for RHEL/Centos 3/4/5

I got around to adding some migration support to xymon in the Mandriva packages, and it seems to work adequately for a relatively simple setup. So, I have (as usual) rebuilt the packages for RHEL/Centos. For now, they are in a separate repo, e.g.: http://staff.telkomsa.net/packages/rhel5/xymon/ http://staff.telkomsa.net/packages/rhel4/xymon/ http://staff.telkomsa.net/packages/rhel3/xymon/ SRPM is here: http://staff.telkomsa.net/packages/SRPMS/xymon/xymon-4.2.3-1.rhel5.src.rpm Please note that you may see a message about files being save as .rpmsave, you should copy those back before starting xymon after the upgrade. Also note that any extension scripts may not be migrated correctly (it's better to package them as well :-)). If you do upgrade from Hobbit to Xymon with these packages, please let me know of anything else that did not work correctly. If I get sufficient feedback, I will eventually move these packages to the hobbit repo (or, make them have the same content). Regards, Buchan P.S. Hey guys, When you use the 'page' command it puts them all under the title in Pages Hosted Locally. All the pages display over 2 columns, any idea how I can get them to only show in 1 column? Thanks jarrod

Replicating disabled tests to another server

I am getting ready to set up a multi-master environment, making what up until now was simply another server feeding client data to the primary server, into a second primary server. Currently the secondary has none of the data on which tests are disabled. I need to know how to merge this information from the primary to the secondary, without corrupting the existing checkpoint data. I tried a test, copying one of the "blue" lines from the primary hobbitd.chk file into the secondary, but it had some weird results. It showed a completely different server and test as disabled on the Enda/dis page, so it looks like the order of the lines in the file may be a requirement? If I simply copy the entire alert.chk and hobbitd.chk files from primary to secondary and restart, will this work or have any adverse consequences on the secondary? disable untill ok bug ?

Hi, Yesterday I disabled a ping test 'untill ok'. This night, the ping test failed on the hobbit server (4.2) with status clear: Wed Mar 4 00:05:42 2009 ping ok : System failure of the ping test Service ping on srvs3tsm is OK Hobbit system error System unreachable for 1508 poll periods (455337 seconds) This also cleared the disable setting so 5 minutes later, the status was error and 10 minutes later an alert was triggered. Is it normal that a 'system failure' of the ping test clears the 'disabled untill ok' setting? Stef

user roles

Hi all I have to design monitoring system, and there will be two main user groups who will use it: network administrators - their main need is to monitor the state of servers, and system monitoring team - their main need is to monitor the services runnig on those servers and some times they don't care about the state of server (if HDD is runnig out of space, load of cpu and so on). I wonder if there is any possibility to separate user roles on Hobbit or any work around for that. Thanks in advance, Ricardas

all hosts disappeared

Hi, I tried to rename a host, according to it's new name : ~xymon/client/bin/bb 127.0.0.1 "rename OLD NEW" then after a refresh on xymon homepage, I can't see any of my host. I tried to restart xymon server, to undo my change (rename NEW OLD), but nothing changed. when I try to access the status of a unchanged host : https://BBDISP/xymon-cgi/bb-hostsvc.sh?HOST=ANOTHER_HOST&SERVICE=conn I get the following message : Status not available My filesystems are OK, and I can't see any error, in fact I know where to read xymon client logs, but not server logs... Thanks for your help, I'm scared :-(
