I've just made the release-candidate of version 4.2.2 available for download on Sourceforge. https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128058&package_id=14… This is how I would expect the interim 4.2.2 release to be. It includes the following changes from 4.2.0: *) Due to the Hobbit project being renamed to Xymon (for legal reasons), the documentation has been updated to refer to this as the name of the project. *) All patches from the "all-in-one" patch have been applied *) Patches from Debian and Mandriva source archives and elsewhere have been merged, fixing: - The "Critical Systems" configuration report would crash when hosts were in NKview.cfg, but no NK tags were in bb-hosts (from Mandriva) - SSL certificates with 4-digit expiration years would crash the network tester (from Debian) - Newer OpenLDAP versions have a different API, so the LDAP test code would not build correctly (from Debian) - Old Big Brother clients report disk output with no header line (from Debian) - The bb-hosts syntax for HTTP testing via a proxy could not support https target-URL's (from Debian) - Certain SuSE versions would not be identified by the Linux client as such (only affected OS name displayed in the "info" status). *) Support for sending custom graph data in a "trends" data message (from http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2007/01/msg00236.html) *) Split-NCV and TRACKMAX support for custom graphs (from http://www.hobbitmon.com/hobbiton/2007/03/msg00368.htm) *) Support for the "BBWin" client http://bbwin.sf.net/ in centralized (server-side) configuration mode. Based on BBWin v. 0.12. *) Support for the "hobbit-perl-client" add-on http://hobbit-perl-client.sf.net/ . Based on perl-http-client v1.15 *) Support for the "Devmon" SNMP data collector http://devmon.sf.net/ based on Devmon 0.3.0. A last-minute update for Devmon was missed in the RC1 source file, so Devmon users should grab the latest hobbitd/rrd/do_devmon.c source from http://hobbitmon.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/hobbitmon/branches/4.2.2/hobbit… and copy to hobbitd/rrd/do_devmon.c . This will be included in the final 4.2.2 release. Please test this if you can, and report problems to the mailing list. Since all of this code has been in use for quite some time, I would not expect a lot of problems. So the target date for the 4.2.2 release is Dec. 10. Regards, Henrik

PROC test question

Hi all, I am a hobbit newby. I have a question about the PROC test: is there a way to define a test about the presence of a particular proc executed by a particular user? I'm in a situation where I have some daemons that could be started by a lot of (machine)users and so I would like to check the user the proc run as. Thanks in advance Marco

We've been running big brother for some years, and we monitor several hundred servers in 2 data centers. We are currently running a pilot of xymon (4.3.0 svn), and just as with big brother, we have redundant monitoring servers. A xymon server in california monitors hosts in both california and arizona, and a xymon server in arizona monitors hosts in both data centers as well. For the most part, xymon is performing well, but it is a bit of an annoyance with xymon that we get duplicate notifications, as each xymon server sends it's own notifications for every event. Big brother sends a single notification for each event, as controlled by the alerting failover. Is there any way to suppress the duplicate notifications from xymon? Joe

Problem with external script and RRD-Graphs

Hi guys, im trying to monitor some mysql performances like slowqueries, threads, queries per second, etc. trought an external script. So far i get all results from the client (Big Brother-Client) unless the graphs. Using big brother (server) i get 3 graphs (slowqueries, threads and queries per second) but after migrating BB to Hobbit i cant get any graph anymore. I already did all steps from "How to setup custom graphs" but its not working. Did i forget something / did something wrong or is it with the BB-Client not possible? After editing the hobbitserver.cfg and hobbitgraph.cfg i had some confrontations with: how should i configure the parameters of the hobbitserver.cfg and hobbitgraph.cfg if i want 3 diferent graphs in one page, when the graph name has to be the same as the column name? when trying to get the only graph into the browser i get only an 1x1 Pixel graph... has anybody any idea?? TIA

xymon 4.2.3 & bb-hosts issue

Hello! I have one issue, it could be that is rather very simple, but I am not sure where to look, so I would appreciate a hint, where to start to look for. Someone may eventually experienced this, which is very likely :) I have Xymon 4.2.3 on Fedore 10. Fedora 10 is a guest OS in VMWare virtual machine. It worked all fine. Now I moved the VMWare Fedore 10 guest image to a different computer, in a different subnet. Now all I get read from the bb-hosts file are the page labels defined over there. I get no devices, nor I get the default SKXYMON device on the homepage. I changed the address of the guest os, on a network level (ping, trace and etc) - everything is working, I changed the IP of SKXYMON entry in bb-hosts, still it looks to me that the hobbit process is not fetching the data that are sent to this process. Or it fetches, but bb-hosts file for some reason is not read properly? Do I have to configure xymon again, then recompile it? (I saved bb-hosts file in my ~ folder). Thanks /JD

Hello all, Last friday may 22 at 8:20 we finished our upgrade from our NetApp-filers (version 7.2.3 to 7.3.1.1). These filers were (and are) monitored by Xymon in combination with the perl-netapp-client. Combined a great combo! However, since the upgrade I keep getting this error in /var/log/hobbit/rrd-data.log: ... 2009-05-22 08:22:00 xstrdup: Cannot dup NULL string 2009-05-22 08:22:00 Worker process died with exit code 6, terminating .... This error appears every 5 minutes. Only one graph-type is not trended anymore since the upgrade, the xtstatscolumn which deliver all statistics about each drive in the filer. (About +/- 20 graphs). Sometimes, it does trend some data but that is for a very short time, let's say 5 or 15 minutes. Then for hours, nothing. One filer has not been upgraded, but shows the same lack of trending. But that can be caused because I have set it up with MultiThreading (something that can be set using a parameter). Now I will change this to 1 (for each filer a seperate process) to see if the problem can be narrowed, so I'll update this problem later on this weekend. Hi, I have just started looking into running xymon v4.2.3 and finding that only the last error in passed over to the server with from the client where multiple errors exist in the logfile - see below example. Any Ideas ?
