Problems with the RRD Graphs

Hello, i've got a problem with my rrd graphs, no graph is displayed... /var/log/apache2/error.log sends the following message: [Wed May 27 15:43:00 2009] [error] [client 144.144.144.144] Premature end of script headers: hobbitgraph.sh, referer: http://hobbit.de/hobbit-cgi/bb-hostsvc.sh?HOST=hobbit&SERVICE=cpu and hobbitgraph.sh shows the following message: /hobbit/cgi-bin$ ./hobbitgraph.sh Content-type: text/html <html><head><title>Invalid request</title></head> <body>Invalid request - no host or service</body></html> rrd-data.log in /var/log/hobbit shows: illegal attempt to update using time 1243358903 when last update time is 1243358903 (minimum one second step) Is anyone able to help? I am trying to figure this out. The error I see in the hobbitclient.log file is as follows: 2009-05-26 10:39:25 Could not connect to bbd at 127.0.0.1:1984 - Connection refused 2009-05-26 10:39:25 Whoops ! bb failed to send message - Connection failed All my displays are purple except for some custom columns which are green but not reporting anything. I'm not allowed to compile anything on the client host, but would like to run a xymon/bb client there. It appears that I can use netcat to send plain text, as in: #--------------- D=`date` cat << EOF | nc myserver.com 1984 status myclient,com.mycolumn green $D MyColumn status: All is OK: If you can read this, then the script works. EOF #--------------- I added a column to the bb-hosts, and ran the script locally sending data to localhost, and the mycolumn indicator shows up properly. However, I can't get data from the real client to show up in xymon. I've added the proper firewall rules, and wireshark shows the proper data over the connection. Is there something in xymon that only accepts data from certain hosts? If so, does xymon always allow 127.0.0.1/localhost? The tips page says to look at the hobbitd indicator for a report about unknown hosts, but I don't see anything there. Is that the Ghost Clients report? I don't see anything there either. Is there a log file that shows why xymon rejected input? Thanks, Wendell

Unexpected Service Response

Hello All! We have multiple Solaris 10 boxes that run both FTP and SMTP. I have xymon configrued to test these ports (ftp and smtp) but the tests show up as "Service ftp on XXXXX is not OK : Unexpected service response" and then immediately it goes green with "Service ftp on XXXXXis OK (up)" What would be a good starting point in determining why this is happening. I have the same ftp and smptp tests being performed on Linux and AIX boxes with no issues but this happens on ALL of my Solaris 10 machines... Any help is appreciated!!!

Hi Henrik, Our company is currently using the Hobbit monitoring tool to monitor our servers. We want to switch to Xymon since hobbit isn't under development anymore hence we want to switch to Xymon. But i wanted to know what are really the benefits of Xymon compared to Hobbit? Is it only that hobbit isn't under development any longer or are there other improvements in Xymon? Determining yellow and red level warnings for cpu/load

I have a server that does does a lot of work all the time - a vmware server. Each virtual machine does its own things, but the host OS has load that gets to 20 at times. Everything is just as responsive during these times, so the default load warnings aren't valid for me. I changed my alerts based on a test with stress ( http://freshmeat.net/projects/stress) Does everyone else just accept the defaults for yellow and red? If not, how do you increase it?
