I've just made the release-candidate of version 4.2.2 available for download on Sourceforge. https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128058&package_id=14… This is how I would expect the interim 4.2.2 release to be. It includes the following changes from 4.2.0: *) Due to the Hobbit project being renamed to Xymon (for legal reasons), the documentation has been updated to refer to this as the name of the project. *) All patches from the "all-in-one" patch have been applied *) Patches from Debian and Mandriva source archives and elsewhere have been merged, fixing: - The "Critical Systems" configuration report would crash when hosts were in NKview.cfg, but no NK tags were in bb-hosts (from Mandriva) - SSL certificates with 4-digit expiration years would crash the network tester (from Debian) - Newer OpenLDAP versions have a different API, so the LDAP test code would not build correctly (from Debian) - Old Big Brother clients report disk output with no header line (from Debian) - The bb-hosts syntax for HTTP testing via a proxy could not support https target-URL's (from Debian) - Certain SuSE versions would not be identified by the Linux client as such (only affected OS name displayed in the "info" status). *) Support for sending custom graph data in a "trends" data message (from http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2007/01/msg00236.html) *) Split-NCV and TRACKMAX support for custom graphs (from http://www.hobbitmon.com/hobbiton/2007/03/msg00368.htm) *) Support for the "BBWin" client http://bbwin.sf.net/ in centralized (server-side) configuration mode. Based on BBWin v. 0.12. *) Support for the "hobbit-perl-client" add-on http://hobbit-perl-client.sf.net/ . Based on perl-http-client v1.15 *) Support for the "Devmon" SNMP data collector http://devmon.sf.net/ based on Devmon 0.3.0. A last-minute update for Devmon was missed in the RC1 source file, so Devmon users should grab the latest hobbitd/rrd/do_devmon.c source from http://hobbitmon.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/hobbitmon/branches/4.2.2/hobbit… and copy to hobbitd/rrd/do_devmon.c . This will be included in the final 4.2.2 release. Please test this if you can, and report problems to the mailing list. Since all of this code has been in use for quite some time, I would not expect a lot of problems. So the target date for the 4.2.2 release is Dec. 10. Regards, Henrik

Test showing blue

I recently had a system panic and I needed to rebuild. Once it was down and we were try to recover it I choose to configure the hobbit server to disable all tests on this server. Once I successfully rebuilt it, I re-installed the hobbit client and enabled all tests. The tests still show blue however. What do I need to do to show them enabled. I have already restarted the hobbit server to no avail. Thanks

Runtime longer than time limit (300)

Unsure if this is a bug or not. I noticed that for a few days I've been getting "Runtime 483 longer than time limit (300)" and the bbtest column shows: TIME SPENT <snip> DNS tests executed 450.074868 <snip> TIME TOTAL 482.741716 I was able to successfully debug this by adding "--debug" to the [bbnet] CMD in hobbitlaunch.cfg. This revealed: 2009-09-01 08:26:01 ares_search: tlookup='dns.server.com', class=1, type=1 2009-09-01 08:26:01 Processing 0 DNS lookups with ARES 2009-09-01 08:33:31 Finished ARES queue after loop 20 Note that it took 7 minutes to complete this. Where 'dns.server.com' is a server that we took offline on the day the issue began. We didn't remove this from bb-hosts and instead marked it blue. The fix was to comment it out from bb-hosts. It says "loop 20" above so I was searching for config options that listed 20 as a value but didn't come up with anything. The issue is resolved on my end but I'd like to find out if this is a bug or expected behavior. It seems that a single DNS check on a host that's down shouldn't delay things by 7 minutes. I'm running Xymon v4.2.3 on FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE. Thanks, Chris

[Hobbit] URLPlus updated on Xymonton

I finally got around to uploading the most recent version of URLPlus to Xymonton. It's actually a version back from 2008 (many of you may already have it), but it's the most recent version I have developed. I hope to soon integrate several user contributions to the code before eventually doing a rewrite from scratch to clean up the overall design.

unable to monitor nfs with BB extension script

My xymon server is Solaris 10 running Xymon 4.2.3. I am in the process of migrating from BB to Xymon. I have a solaris 10 sparc client which is running both BB and Xymon clients. To prep Xymon for BB extension scripts, I first concatenated bbsys.local onto hobbitclient.cfg. Next I installed the BB extension script *bb-nfs-client.sh*. It erroneously reports "No NFS filesystems currently mounted on ftp01" under the Xymon client. The same script works correctly under the BB client. I ran the script in debug mode. It correctly populates PINGEDHOSTS and NFSHOST. Hi, does somebody know, why i get such a message when debugging the hobbitd_alert: 00020790 2009-09-01 16:35:55 Failed 'MAIL camorae at googlemail.de SERVICE=disk REPEAT=24h' (service not in include list) The E-Mails cant go out. What kind of "include list" is it?I can't find it anywhere... Do I have to define my email application there? Thx, Cayo

Folders RRD info

I am writing a new ext called "folders" that will provide a check to see that folders do not exceed a certain size. For example, it will check the folders that contain each user's personal network drive, list them all with their sizes, and indicate any that are over the limit. I have this much worked out and think that I have the red, green, yellow parts of the script working properly. However, it would be even better if I could store the sizes of these folders within Hobbit/Xymon as data in RRD and have them graphed. How do I send the data to Hobbit in a format that it will understand as being RRD data and that will be tied to the "folders" test for this host? firefox 3.5 problem with graph zoom display - ymon 4.2.2-RC1-2008.12.01

Hi I am running Xymon 4.2.2-RC1-2008.12.01 and have a problem with some, but not all browsers. The problem occurs, then I go to Trends and selects the magnifying glass ican. The graph displayed for zooming is displayed and immediately coveret with a blue square. This occurs in: firefox 3.5 and Opera 9.64 This does not occur in: firefox 3.0, Crome 2.0.172.37 and IE 8.0.6001 All hints are appreciated. Best regards Harald Villemoes

timing of certain tests

i wonder if it is at all possible to change the timing of certain tests? so host1 would run it's conntest at the normal 5m cycle while host2 will do it's conn test @ 4 min cycle.
