Weird disk and cpu alert with bad data

Hi All: (This is very similar to a problem reported by Craig Cook back on Oct. 30, 2008 in this form, but I don't see a resolution for it) In my xymon setup, I have a number of linux and Solaris clients. The linux clients are doing fine, but I am having a problem with the Solaris ones (the Solaris is both x86 and Sparc based, running Solaris 10 update 8). I am see a similar corruption in the disk outputs. Note, I normally only see one failing test, and then the next test is fine. So, my questions: 1) Any suggestions for a fix? 2) But more importantly, how do I debug a problem like this? I looked at both at the client and the server and didn't find any corresponding core files, but what else can I do? On the client, in ~/client/logs/hobbitclient.log, on machines that are zones, I do see an error message "prtconf: devinfo facility not available", but I don't think this is related to this problem (I am seeing the above corruption failures on machines which are not zones). thanks, Paul

alert on proc while both hosts running the same process at the same time

HOST=%host1|host2 PROC myproc ?? ?? How do I setup using PROC or may be some other method to alert when a process myproc is running either on both server or on no server? only one myproc is suppose to run on only one of the two hosts, host1 or host2 if myproc does not run on either of the hosts that should alert too. so here is the condition total number of myproc process on the hosts. each row is reprensenting a time host1 host2 -------- -------- time1 0 0 time2 0 1 time3 1 0 time4 1 1 alert during time1 and time4 Is it possible to achieve this using stock hobbit? How to setup a remote copy of my XYMON Display

Hi All: I have been reading through the forum archives for most of the day, but still confused, and would appreciate any help. Here is what I am trying to do: Background: - I have a xymon server setup, that is monitoring a number of clients on the local net, and it is working well. - The server, and most of the clients, are running 4.3.0-beta2 My Goal: - I would like to have a second xymon server, on another network, that is basically a realtime copy of the display of the first server. This second server is outside of the original server's DMZ (and it will probably be in it's own DMZ). My problem at this point: - On the second server, I don't see all of the columns, basically those created by the xymon client processes running on the clients (i.e. the msgs column, the disk column, the memory, column, etc.) 1st question: I understand that I could have each of my clients ~xymon/client/etc/hobbitclient.cfg file modified and setup the BBDISPLAYS variable in it, but is there an easier (or another) way to have the original xymon server forward this to the second (just like it is forwarding all of the other status messages)? What I have gotten to work so far: - I have the second server up (right now for testing, it is in the same DMZ), and have done the following: - on the original server, have changed: -- the hobbitserver.cfg file: a) uncommented BBLOCATION variable and gave it a value of Local (so that it is the only one doing the network tests to the client) b) set BBDISP="0.0.0.0" c) set BBDISPLAYS="oringal.server.ip new.2nd.server.ip" -- the bb-hosts file: a) added the tag NET:Local to each client's line, so that the local server keeps testing them. and then restarted the original server - on the second server, I have changed: -- the hobbitserver.cfg file: a) uncommented BBLOCAL variable, and gave it a value of Remote -- copied the bb-hosts file from the original server to this second server and then restarted the second server Thanks in advance for your help, and please let me know if you need any more info. hobbitd_rrd core dumps, help!

Hi, So I just go another xymon-client connected to our setup, an aix-client, and suddenly hobbitd_rrd core dumps every minute. Commenting the host our and removing all of the ./data/* doesnt help it - I tried updating rrdtool to the latest version - thats a nogo either. TRENDS doesn't seem to do anything

For the first time, I’m trying to deviate from the default graphs show on the trends page for a few hosts. I’ve tried this: TRENDS:la,disk,memory,users,vmstat,ol,tcp,netstat,ifstat and TRENDS:*,ol But it continues to show the same graphs. The complete line is actually this (if it matters): x.x.x.x hostname # "OS:linux" "CLASS:test" "DESCR:server:Test OpenLDAP consumer (slave)" "http://ldaptest.example.com/dummy.txt" "ldaps" "ol" "badldaps:1:2:5" "DOWNTIME=ldap,ldaps,http,ol:*:0400:0415:Log Rotation" "TRENDS:la,disk,memory,users,vmstat,tcp,netstat,ifstat” I’ve searched the list archives and don’t see any mention of this tag being ineffective. How to setup dns=hostname timeout

Hi friends, I have a DNS server that I'm monitoring with the tag dns=hostname. Today this cause WARNING: Runtime 491 longer than time limit (300) and the DNS tests executed duration was 450. Is there a way to setup a timeout for the dns test? Thanks in advance, Mario.

hobbitd_client core dumps when starting a 4.3.0 client

Hi, I suddently have this problem on my 4.4.0-1 environment: When I start a 4.3.0-beta2 client on a CentOS 5.5 64bit server, hobbitd_client core dumps after a few minutes. And Im not quite sure whats causing this. Could it be because of the 4.3.0 client is incompatible with the 4.4.0 server? I've recently changed hobbitclient.sh to use SUDO logfetch, dunno if that could be causing this problem. When I use gdb on the core-dump: This GDB was configured as "x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu". Different graphs under one column name

Hello is there a way to have different graphs under the same column name? I have several servers which run different applications. Now I want to test the application's functionality, but every application is different. So it generates different kind of data, eg. queues size on a mqseries server and hhtp requests on a web server. The straight forward way would be to create different test columns for the different applications. But then I get a big table with many, many empty positions. So I would like to create an "app" column, but then it seems I can only have on graph definition per column. Is there a way to achieve this. Maybe create a "sub-graph" definition like "app.queues" or "app.httpreq". Maybe it would be a good idea to add such a functionality to the NCV module. Eg. the test could add a tag to the data which is used by NCV to connect it to the entry in the hobbitgraph.cfg. A cool feature would be a possibility to add different graphs to one page this way.
