Feature request for log test

Hi. We have a syslog server which receives logs from a number of servers and network devices. Currently we use the log test in Xymon to check for errors in these logs, and it works fine. But it is a little blunt since all log test end up in the same msgs test. It could also be a problem if we get an error in one log file, and need to ack or disable the test. In this case we would not get any alert if there were errors in one of the other logs. It would have been nice if you could add a client definition to a logfile test in analysis.conf, and report each log file as the device which is originates from. Or maybe as a separate syslog test to distinguish it from the msgs test. This way we could also set up individual alerts for the different logged devices. I could, of course, write a client- or serverside script for this, but I always find it difficult to do good log monitoring scripts and it would be nice to be able to use the logic already in Xymon What do you think? Would anyone else be interested in this feature? I also have no idea how much work it would be. /Johan

How to get vmstat5 to show on Trends page

Hey all, I'm trying to figure out how to get the vmstat5 graph to show up on the trends page for a 4.3.3 installation. I've tried adding vmstat5 to the GRAPHS statement in xymonserver.cfg, as well as vmstat::1, vmstat::5, etc with no success. Suggestions? Thanks! --Patrick

AIX df command problem

I am having a problem similar to one recently posted, but this is on an AIX host and is caused (I think) by a problem in the way xymon does df on AIX. The xymon version is 4.2.3 and the AIX OS version is 3.5 (I think, I'm a Solaris Admin). Anyway, I can find no way to force the df on AIX to use POSIX formatting AND to report only local file systems. Even if I could, I don't think I can override what xymon uses for df since the comments in the hobbitclient.cfg file say that the envariable definition is only there for compatibility and it is not used. The problem is that an NFS mount file system line in the df output is being parsed wrong and the number in the usage column is being used for the percent used (Available) so that is a huge number. Not only that, again similar to the previous problem, the file system name is being picked up as the contents of the last 3 fields in the output line, i.e. it is not /mnt/tsmupdates (which is what it should be) but "3020485 50% /tsm/updates", which, of course, prevents me from effectively ignoring that file system. I've tried using DISK %.*/mnt/.* IGNORE and that doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have a big red page where we shouldn't have. Critical Systems 'Hosts docs'-URL does not show correct URL

Hello all, After years of Xymon usage, I start to use the Critical Systems view. I have setup a BBGENOPTS to use a docurl. I expect this URL to show up on the Critical Systems view. Either as the clickable host; either as the Host docs. However, neither show the correct documentation. In more detail: - I have tested this with 2 Xymon distributions: 4.2.3 and Xymon 4.3.0-0.beta2 - So I have setup: BBGENOPTS="--recentgifs --subpagecolumns=2 --docurl= https://wiki.ourserver.nl/syntax/index.php/ServerInformatie:%s --rss --rsslimit=yellow --rssversion=2.0" # Standard options for bbgen. - Below the screen that shows the Priority 2 call. changing new xymon menu to allow for horizontal drop downs

I'd like to add some horizontal drop down menus to the new xymon menu, similar to what is shown here: http://sperling.com/examples/menuh/ With the old menu, it was pretty simple, I just added some code like this: ['Analysis', null, null, ['Web Servers', null, null, ['Averages', null, null, [CPU Utilization, '/hobbit-cgi/...... Of course that doesn't work with the new menu, so I have to start over. Can anyone point me to some example code that does what I'm trying to do? I'm not a web programmer by any means, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

httpstatus inconsistency

I have two servers (monitor5 and monitor3) running Xymon 4.3.2 that both have the same hosts.cfg entries for a particular host. The entry uses the httpstatus test and goes like this: 192.168.0.29 camilla # postgresql \ http://MyUrlA \ httpstatus=dbB;https://MyUrlB;200 \ httpstatus=dbC;https://MyUrlC;200 \ http://MyUrlD The strange thing, is that when dbC fails with a non 200.... on monitor3 dbC and http tests show red on monitor5 dbC shows red and http shows green Why do the two monitoring servers behave differently? I am using Xymon 4.3.2. Spikes in activity.

Hi all, I've looked through the documentation for Xymon and I can't seem to find any way to only have an icon colour change if a threshold has been passed for x number of consecutive tests. I'm aware that alerts allow this kind of thing but would really like the dashboard not to change colour if we just get a spike in disk, cpu or memory usage (amongst other things). Is there any way to do this? Looking for "page too old" script

I have a tsch script that does some things, manipulates and image and such and posts it on a web site. Occasionally, I have found a bug or two where the image stops updating. I don't know this until it is too late. Is there any sort of technique or custom script that will poll a website and see if something is to old? I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to correctly indicate a problem and hoping there is something I can start from already. Thanks in advance!
