Feature request for log test

Hi. We have a syslog server which receives logs from a number of servers and network devices. Currently we use the log test in Xymon to check for errors in these logs, and it works fine. But it is a little blunt since all log test end up in the same msgs test. It could also be a problem if we get an error in one log file, and need to ack or disable the test. In this case we would not get any alert if there were errors in one of the other logs. It would have been nice if you could add a client definition to a logfile test in analysis.conf, and report each log file as the device which is originates from. Or maybe as a separate syslog test to distinguish it from the msgs test. This way we could also set up individual alerts for the different logged devices. I could, of course, write a client- or serverside script for this, but I always find it difficult to do good log monitoring scripts and it would be nice to be able to use the logic already in Xymon What do you think? Would anyone else be interested in this feature? I also have no idea how much work it would be. /Johan

How to get vmstat5 to show on Trends page

Hey all, I'm trying to figure out how to get the vmstat5 graph to show up on the trends page for a 4.3.3 installation. I've tried adding vmstat5 to the GRAPHS statement in xymonserver.cfg, as well as vmstat::1, vmstat::5, etc with no success. Suggestions? Thanks! --Patrick

AIX df command problem

I am having a problem similar to one recently posted, but this is on an AIX host and is caused (I think) by a problem in the way xymon does df on AIX. The xymon version is 4.2.3 and the AIX OS version is 3.5 (I think, I'm a Solaris Admin). Anyway, I can find no way to force the df on AIX to use POSIX formatting AND to report only local file systems. Even if I could, I don't think I can override what xymon uses for df since the comments in the hobbitclient.cfg file say that the envariable definition is only there for compatibility and it is not used. The problem is that an NFS mount file system line in the df output is being parsed wrong and the number in the usage column is being used for the percent used (Available) so that is a huge number. Not only that, again similar to the previous problem, the file system name is being picked up as the contents of the last 3 fields in the output line, i.e. it is not /mnt/tsmupdates (which is what it should be) but "3020485 50% /tsm/updates", which, of course, prevents me from effectively ignoring that file system. I've tried using DISK %.*/mnt/.* IGNORE and that doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have a big red page where we shouldn't have. Does anyone out there using double leveled combos, combos of combos that work? If so perhaps you could share an example from your config that works? Thanks in advance, Here is the example from the man pages: ---- WebCluster.http = (Web1.http || Web2.http) AppSrvCluster.procs = (AppSrv1.conn && AppSrv1.procs) || (AppSrv2.conn && AppSrv2.procs) Customer.cluster = WebCluster.http && AppSrvCluster.procs The first line defines a new test, with hostname "WebCluster" and the columnname "http". It will be green if the http test on either the "Web1" or the "Web2" server is green. The second line defines a "procs" test for the "AppSrvCluster" host. Each of the AppSrv1 and AppSrv2 hosts is checked for "conn" (ping) and their "procs" test. On each host, both of these must be green, but the combined test is green if that condition is fulfilled on just one of the hosts. The third line uses the two first tests to build a "double combined" test, defining a test that shows the overall health of the system. ---- So in theory it should work? They are single layer combo tests...All my single layer combo tests work. The double combo is this: impact.db = (iam.db && gam.db) - same with our without parenthesys...if I use single ampersand, color propogates up, but staus still shows &unknown. We have tried multiple combinations taking the combo down to barest form, and still get the errors (&unknown). Log doesn't really help... combostatus.log.1:21316 2011-06-30 03:58:03 Symbolic 'event.db&&gam.db&&iam.db&&jbpm.db' converted to '-1&&-1&&-1&&-1' I put the --debug on the cmd in tasks, and not logging much else helpful. https failure in 4.3.4, not in 4.2.3

I upgraded my last xymon server from 4.2.3 to 4.3.4 this morning. It went well, except for one little thing. https tests. I found that my proxy machines just ran http tests, but my main server runs https tests. An oversight I'm now correcting. How I found this is that my tests are now failing: red Wed Aug 31 09:21:47 2011: red https://iadnasp1.mns.qintra.com/ - Seconds: 0.06 If I run a curl on the site, I get: $ curl https://iadnasp1 curl: (60) SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK. Details: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed More details here: http://curl.haxx.se/docs/sslcerts.html curl performs SSL certificate verification by default, using a "bundle" of Certificate Authority (CA) public keys (CA certs). The default bundle is named curl-ca-bundle.crt; you can specify an alternate file using the --cacert option. If this HTTPS server uses a certificate signed by a CA represented in the bundle, the certificate verification probably failed due to a problem with the certificate (it might be expired, or the name might not match the domain name in the URL). If you'd like to turn off curl's verification of the certificate, use the -k (or --insecure) option. Using the --insecure works correctly. So, we have an internal CA. So I'm guessing I need to install the CA's certificate of authority to clear this issue up? Where do I do that? Paul.
