Running xymon on Solaris 10 Version 4.2.3 Hobbit-clients.cfg has the following: HOST=srv1 MEMSWAP 70 80 GROUP=bkpsupport DISK /nbimages 95 98 GROUP=bkpsupport DISK /images 75 80 GROUP=bkpsupport Hobbit-alerts.cfg has the following: GROUP=bkpsupport MAIL j at company.com FORMAT=PLAIN And HOST=%(srv1|srv3|srv4|srv5) COLOR=red MAIL j at company.com FORMAT=PLAIN SERVICE=cpu,memswap,conn,disk,procs,meta,prtdiag,zfs DURATION>5 I can run the following and it appears the configs are correct: bbcmd hobbitd_alert --test srv1 memswap 301 part of the result output: 00002848 2011-08-15 08:59:11 Matching host:service:page 'srv1:memswap:bksrv' against rule line 183 00002848 2011-08-15 08:59:11 *** Match with 'MAIL j at company.com FORMAT=PLAIN SERVICE=cpu,memswap,conn,disk,procs,meta,p rtdiag,zfs DURATION>5' *** 00002848 2011-08-15 08:59:11 Mail alert with command 'mailx -s "Hobbit [12345] srv1:memswap CRITICAL (RED)" j at company.com' But it I change memswap to 40 60 to trigger an alert, nothing is sent for either yellow or red. Critical Systems 'Hosts docs'-URL does not show correct URL

Hello all, After years of Xymon usage, I start to use the Critical Systems view. I have setup a BBGENOPTS to use a docurl. I expect this URL to show up on the Critical Systems view. Either as the clickable host; either as the Host docs. However, neither show the correct documentation. In more detail: - I have tested this with 2 Xymon distributions: 4.2.3 and Xymon 4.3.0-0.beta2 - So I have setup: BBGENOPTS="--recentgifs --subpagecolumns=2 --docurl= https://wiki.ourserver.nl/syntax/index.php/ServerInformatie:%s --rss --rsslimit=yellow --rssversion=2.0" # Standard options for bbgen. - Below the screen that shows the Priority 2 call. The link shows the Info-text instead of the expected wiki-docs that does show in normal operation. There are links to the host documentation and host information. " So is there something I understand wrong and does it work as expected? Or is this something else? Any help much appreciated, Peter

We've been using Xymon for a few years and love it. Its our main open source tool for monitoring, but I was wondering what others are using in addition to Xymon for monitoring/alerting network equipment ? Xymon 4.3.4 working great except for the info column

I recently did a fresh install of Xymon 4.3.4 and everything is working well with the exception of the info column. When I select this, I get an Internal Server error. The URL is like this: http://server/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=test1.test.com&SERVICE=info Apache's error_log says: Premature end of script headers: svcstatus.sh If I change the URL to display one of the other columns, say trends for example it works fine: http://server/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=test1.test.com&SERVICE=trends Where should I begin looking for this issue? It seems to happen for every host being monitored, but only for the info column. Thanks, Nathan Riley

problem with LOG and IGNORE in analysis.cfg

Hi, I have a server running Xymon 4.3.4 with a pretty basic analysis.cfg: DEFAULT # These are the built-in defaults. UP 1h LOAD 5.0 10.0 DISK * 90 95 MEMPHYS 100 101 MEMSWAP 50 80 MEMACT 90 97 LOG /var/adm/messages %ERROR|WARNING COLOR=red IGNORE=TEST However, the IGNORE doesn't seem to work for the LOG line: (xymon)@xymon:~$ /home/xymon/server/bin/xymond_client --test Hostname (.=end, ?=dump, !=reload) []: hostname.domain.com Hosttype []: sunos Test (cpu, mem, disk, proc, log, port): log log filename: /var/adm/messages To read log data from a file, enter '@FILENAME' at the prompt log line: ERROR this is just a TEST log line: Log status is red &red ERROR this is just a TEST What's funnier is that the log lines that should trigger a red alert are turning out to be green: (xymon)@xymon:~$ /home/xymon/server/bin/xymond_client --test Hostname (.=end, ?=dump, !=reload) []: hostname.domain.com Hosttype []: sunos Test (cpu, mem, disk, proc, log, port): log log filename: /var/adm/messages To read log data from a file, enter '@FILENAME' at the prompt log line: this ERROR should be red log line: Log status is green Am I not using the LOG and IGNORE correctly in analysis.cfg, or is this a bug? Disable alerts menu pick

Has anyone come up with a menu button that will disable all alerting while leaving the tests enabled? This would be the same as disabling the "alert" section in the tasks.cfg file, but it would be much easier and faster for people not as familiar with Xymon file system files to just click on a menu button to disable and re-enable all alerting. I could make a script to swap out the alerts.cfg with a blank one and make a menu button point to it, or something similar, but I wanted to see if anyone has a better way of doing it. Is there an internal Xymon command that will disable the "alert" task? David

changing new xymon menu to allow for horizontal drop downs

I'd like to add some horizontal drop down menus to the new xymon menu, similar to what is shown here: http://sperling.com/examples/menuh/ With the old menu, it was pretty simple, I just added some code like this: ['Analysis', null, null, ['Web Servers', null, null, ['Averages', null, null, [CPU Utilization, '/hobbit-cgi/...... Of course that doesn't work with the new menu, so I have to start over. Can anyone point me to some example code that does what I'm trying to do? I'm not a web programmer by any means, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

IPv6

A question came up in a meeting this morning. Another group is going to be turning up some new machines that are going to have IPv6 on them. And actually doing work over IPv6. Does Xymon support IPv6? I'm assuming that there will be an IPv4 stack still on the machine, so we could most likely monitor that, but it would be nice if Xymon was keeping track of v6 as well. xymon disable bug or missing feature?

Hi I'm posting this seperately now: But I found a curiosity when trying to disable things (both on a 4.3.4 and an old 4.4.0-beta): ./xymon localhost "disable host.conn 86028s Disabled by: blah @ 10.10.10.10 Reason: blah blah" Doesn't put the host in maintenance for 86028 seconds (almost 24 hrs) - instead it uses minutes (59 days instead) - is there a bug with the "s"-suffix that I don't know about - or am I using xymon disable wrong? The man-pages clealy indicates that you can use seconds, as a parameter: disable HOSTNAME.TESTNAME DURATION <additional text> Disables a specific test for DURATION minutes. This will cause the status of this test to be listed as "blue" on the Xymon server, and no alerts for this host/test will be generated. If DURATION is given as a number followed by s/m/h/d, it is interpreted as being in seconds/minutes/hours/days respectively. To disable a test until it becomes OK, use "-1" as the DURATION. To disable all tests for a host, use an asterisk "*" for TESTNAME. /melgaard
