Noticed that since upgrading to Xymon 4.3.8 I am getting errors in the apache error_log :- [Tue Jul 24 10:19:59 2012] [error] [client xx.xxx.xxx.xx] 2012-07-24 10:19:59 Sendto failed: Socket is not connected, referer: http://xymon/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=hostname&SERVICE=cpu, this seems to be generated for every status column that contains a graph. Sorry to spam the list, but apart from a generic abuse-address for the /16 network there is no contact info for that IP, and it's been showing up in my firewall logs for several months now. So I hope he is reading the list. Not really a problem, merely a nuisance. Must be filling up your own logs as well ... Thanks, Henrik

Sending email alerts for xymon

Hello, I am trying to use the xymon alert system to send emails. When I use "MAIL", I am able to receive the mails as they were intended. HOST=* SERVICE=* COLOR=yellow MAIL alert at xymon.com But, the problem occurs when I start using the "SCRIPT". The mails aren't being forwarded HOST=* SERVICE=* COLOR=yellow SCRIPT test.sh alert at xymon.com I understand that the "SCRIPT" uses two arguments, the script name and the recipient name. Here's how my script looks like, ***************************************************************** #!bin/bash mail -s "$BBALPHAMSG $BBHOSTNAME $MACHIP $BBSVCNAME $RECOVERED" $RCPT ***************************************************************** Can anyone please explain to me a bit more on how the alert system works when the "SCRIPT" is used? Thanks you Raghuv Adhepalli. ps: I encountered the same problem when I tried using "mutt" instead of "mail" in my script. When I use "mutt" as a command on my terminal the command works, but it doesn't work when I use it with "SCRIPT"

Feature request: metric: disk - add thresholds in MB

For DISK test now we have only - "thresholds are percentages - they trigger when the filesystem has filled up to the percentage you specify." But on some disks 5% free is 5G and in some 30G - and sending warning whenwe have 30GB free is not always relevant. I know - it is possible to increase percentages by individual sessings for each host, but I think - checking not only percentage, but also free space in MB/GB - is not big deal and can be added to basic functionality. I use the same approach for testing used/free in Oracle DB tablespaces - and I know this more usefull then just percentage.. This can be done as extra parameters - in this case BOTH - percantage AND MB criteria should be checked or as existing params (2nd, 3d) with -MB/GB - will be treated as size and XyMon will check only MB free. xymonnet Fatal signal caught

Ok, I tried loading all the host again today and now have a corefile. I know that I have a lot of hosts that are failing DNS resolves, but that is a whole different issue that we are working on. Some hosts have been "hard-coded" to an IP address and this is is not updating DNS. Thus far, I have found that I can resolve some of the names from Windows, but not the Linux (Suse) Xymon server. I have create a vbscript that pulls a list of all the hosts that I want from Active Directory and then resolves the hostname to IP. It builds the config file and then I can just upload it to the Xymon server.

Xymon version 4.3.9 now available

Hi, hot on the heels of 4.3.8 comes version 4.3.9 - it should be available from Sourceforge when you read this. This version cleans up a couple of issues that arose with the 4.3.8 release, most notably the problem with "disable until" being broken, and some issues with building Xymon - mainly on Solaris boxes (1). * Fix crash when XYMSRV is undefined but XYMSERVERS is * Fix error in calculating combo-status messages with forward references * Fix error in disable-until-TIME or disable-until-OK code * Fix documentation of DURATION in alerts.cfg / xymond_alert so it is consistenly listed as being in "minutes". * Permit explicit use of ">" and ">=" in alerts.cfg * Permit building without the RRDtool libraries, e.g. for a network-tester build, but with trend-graphing disabled. * Full compiler-warning cleanup * Various configuration/build-script issues fixed. NB: Due to the build-script changes, it is necessary to run the "configure" command in a clean, freshly-unpacked xymon-4.3.9 directory when building this version. You cannot just copy over the Makefile from a previous version - if you do, some of the programs will not be built. These messages seem to be coming from the showgraph module and occur if there are "stale" rrdctl socket files in $XYMONTMP. Removing these sockets stops the error messages. Increasing Tooltip usability

Warning, newbie question, Currently xymon shows states by colored icons. The alt tag of the image is filled with the name of the icon color (for visuality impaired?). In case the icon states the status of a single resource, it would be more useful to fill the alt tag with the actual message. DNS test timeout for a downed DNS server.

Xymon 4.2.3. One of the DNS servers we monitor was down. The bbtest total time went from under 30 seconds to over 900 seconds almost all of which was for the DNS test. This caused a number of problems. I removed the dns tag from the down server and the time dropped back to the normal level. The mysteries to me are why did Xymon continue to test the DNS service on that server while the conn test was red? Why did it take 900 seconds for it to time out, even though I was running with --dns-timeout=60? ( I.e. I can understand that it might take longer than with the default dns timeout, but not 900 seconds.) The color for the dns test for that host was clear and displayed the following text: Service dns on dns.server.org is OK Dialup host/service, or test depends on another failed test Host appears to be down Timeout Seconds: 900.042 It also stopped recording data in the graph. And more importantly, is the behavior still the same in 4.3.9? Thanks, Steve Holmes Purdue University
