Has anyone done anything in Xymon for monitoring windows services across a cluster. I've got a set of services I need to monitor and as long as they are running on one of 2 servers then all is OK. I can't seem to find a way to do this in Xymon. Has anyone done something like this? Perhaps I need to create a server side script to do it? Devmon - scalability ?

hello we got a xymon server polling ~ 8100 network devices (mainly cisco). devmon is used as well but the polling period is high: > 600 sec. (10 mn ). some purple are coming/leaving randomly :( the server is not overloaded : load average: 0.70, 0.71, 0.74 no I/O disk load (SSD disk). server is idling at 94% (16cpu). bandwidth reachs 60Mb in outboud. i m wondering if any people here have some tuning recommendations to have a better polling time (less than 300 sec idealy). for the moment, NUMFORKS is 60 (default 10) . dm stats: Polled devices: 8183 Polled tests: 16535 Avg tests/node: n/a # clear msgs: 0 SNMP test time: 321 Test logic time: 164 BB msg xfer time: 176 This poll period: 661 maybe running a second devmon instance on the same server could be better. any experience is welcome. cheers Nico

Mailing list moved to new server

Hi, just a quick "heads-up" that the xymon.com domain now uses a new mailserver. The mail archive at lists.xymon.com has also been moved. This is of course to avoid problems in the future such as the problem last month where the mailing list was down for a week. Regards, Henrik

linux boot hangs on xymon start if networking is not available

Has anyone encountered this situation? We have running both Redhat and OEL linux 5 and 6 on vmware, and we noticed that if networking doesn't start up on boot, the xymon start up will end up hanging the boot. We are starting it at the very end of starting everything else on the server, at the end of /etc/rc.local. xymonclient.log flooded with "No LSB modules are available."

The bug report here describes the likely source of the problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lsb/+bug/66914 Relevant excerpt: *** This behaviour seems correct to me. http://refspecs.freestandards.org/LSB_3.1.0/LSB-Core-generic/LSB-Core-gener… "If no options are given, the -v option is assumed." -v requires the display of LSB modules, which in Debian/Ubuntu are implemented by the lsb-* metapackages. If you have none of those installed, then you'll get the output you quote. However, if you simply say 'lsb_release -a', you'll get the information you asked for. This is in accordance with the specification for lsb_release. *** Host machine output: root at cents:/var/log/xymon# lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS Release: 10.04 Codename: lucid root at cents:/var/log/xymon# lsb_release No LSB modules are available. root at cents:/var/log/xymon# Interestingly, the code calls /usr/bin/lsb_release -r -i -s | xargs echo Which produces the correct result: Ubuntu 10.04. However, the next line after it isn't filtered... looks like the error message being logged is going to standard out and being logged as a result, while the rest of the output is being properly redirected to the msg file in /var/lib/xymon/tmp. elif [ -x /usr/bin/lsb_release ]; then /usr/bin/lsb_release -r -i -s | xargs echo /usr/bin/lsb_release -a I suggest that the standard output of lsb_release -a be filtered to eliminate the errant error mesage. Native SNMP support

I'm currently building a new Xymon server and I'd like to use the native SNMP monitoring feature. I see snmpmibs.cfg is included with the latest versions of xymon. Is there a way to get alarms triggered on some monitored values ? Is Devmon still the only way to have full SNMP monitoring with Xymon ?

Error trying to configure xymon 4.3.10 in local mode on solaris 10

xymond crashing, not restarting without removing .chk file

xymond - program crashed

Has anyone ran into this issue and had to restart Xymon? This server is a new installation of FreeBSD and Xymon as of yesterday with only a few hosts being monitored.
