Hey all, I'm running xymon 4.3.7 and I have been trying to find a way so that the holidays are being showed as what would be the same for the alerting. For me this would mean that if it's a holiday they would show as planned downtime and not show up in the allnongreen window. The alerting itself works without problems, but I cannot find a way for the planned downtime act the same way. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Solaris 10 xymon SMF

Hi, There is a minor issue with the Solaris 10 SMF for xymon by Galen Johnson that I improved a bit. Thanks Galen for the nice work :D At least it works fine for us. When you disable the xymon service it could wait for up to 5 min before disabling it because the iostat and vmstat are running. (300 min) I been trying some different approaches in the manifest but it doesn't really work properly. I had to change the default timeout (30) to 300 to cater for the 300min possible run time of iostat, vmstat. Otherwise it will go into maintenance mode. Today I had a different approach and changed the xymon.sh script instead, that worked really nice. In server/bin/xymon.sh I added these simple lines to the stop function. (works in Solaris 10) "stop") if test -s /usr/local/xymon/logs/xymonlaunch.pid then kill -TERM `cat /usr/local/xymon/logs/xymonlaunch.pid` echo "Xymon stopped" else echo "Xymon is not running" fi rm -f /usr/local/xymon/logs/xymonlaunch.pid # kill off the remaining xymon processes, ie vmstat iostat etc. sleep 2 pkill 'iostat|vmstat' -U xymon ;; Maybe it could help someone else out there. diskstat.sh/RRD oddity

This is just a comment on an oddity with respect to diskstat.sh and RRD. We make pretty heavy use of the diskstat.sh script, which I believe I downloaded from xymonton. When I installed it I used the standard clientlaunch.cfg stanza for the configuration and everything worked great. I was called to task today because we have been having some disk io issues on the RHEL VMs and someone was looking at the trend graphs for some servers to see if there was anything they could learn and they noticed that beginning at about 4pm local time on Monday the graphs for the number of sectors written per second on a couple of file systems on several VMs jumped from the 10 to 20 range to the 300 to 340 range and stayed there. The graph for number of disk writes per second had a corresponding jump up to about 40 or 50 from close to zero. In analyzing the data I discovered that the file system that was displaying this behavior is the same file system to which the diskstat.sh script is writing its temp files. It appears that for some reason, starting at 4pm on Monday the 5 minute test interval and the 5 minute average for RRD got in sync and all it was seeing was the data point that corresponded to its own writing activity and RRD was using it for the entire 5 minute average (of course, that's what RRD does). I 'fixed' it by changing the test interval to something less than 5 minutes. I tried 2, 3, and 4 minutes and they all had the effect of reducing the data in the plot back to the expected level, i.e. to the level it was before 4pm on Monday. The mystery remains why it suddenly started seeing and using its own disk activity at the same time on several different servers. I built a new Xymon server this week with v4.3.7 and all looks good. Can I copy event history from my current Xymon/Hobbit v4.2.2 server to the new ? I did try copying files/directories over from /xymon/data/<hist>&<histlogs>, but that didn't seem to work... Is there a way to get DISK analysis.cfg functionality for a custom test?

We've got some storage systems that don't run xymon clients (because they are storage systems and speak their own CLI). I wrote a custom script that runs on the xymon server and connects to these devices to report volume usage. So far so good. But now, I want to add functionality that exists on the built in disk test, like DISK filesystem warnlevel paniclevel GROUP=groupname Is there a way I can write my custom test to take advantage of all the built-in capabilities? Would it make sense to write a script that mimics /home/xymon/client/bin/xymonclient-<os>.sh and kick the results to xymonclient somehow? And if so how? Is there a good generic "os" to use?Will xymon fall over and cry when I don't have all the sorts of information that xymonclient usually has? Or is there a better way to go about this?

I have created the .procmailrc file it looks like this. The file is in /home/xymon 755 permissions and owned by xymon:xymon I tried the ownership as root as well. DEFAULT=$HOME/Mailbox LOGFILE=$HOME/procmail.log :0 | $HOME/server/bin/xymon-mailack --env=/home/xymon/server/etc/xymonserver.cfg When I run it on the CLI using this command ./xymon-mailack --env=/home/xymon/server/etc/xymonserver.cfg --debug I get nothing, it just returns an empty line, and sits there. I must be missing something. I had it working at a previous employer but the Linux guru there got it working for me. I do not have one of them here to lend a hand. I do not see the procmail.log file nor the Mailbox directory the man pages refer to. I may be completely missing something simple here or better yet something like promail is not installed. I do get the alerts via email from the system so that is working. Again thank you for all the help.

Problem with alerts on a DS value

Hi all, Xymon 4.3.7, testing cpu load from vmstat rrd file works great except for the actual alert. I was expecting the string 'CPU Idle load Normal at &V%" HOST=%^hostprd0' to appear in the alert but it doesn't. The Subject line in email shows the correct color (YELLOW), but the body says green. The text string doesn't show up in BBALPHAMSG. Problem with the smtps test (unspecified SSL error)

So, I started off trying smtps:587:s in bb-hosts. That didn't work. Then I tried adding the port to bb-services (normally that service has no port listed). HP-UX client

Does anyone have a good client install for monitoring HP-UX or OpenVMS? The HP-UX is my main concern and also I would have almost no idea of how to do the install of the client so any major help would be appreciated. Thanks as always.

Alarms.cfg REPEAT=Minutes not working?

I am seeing in the Alarm.log file that my REPEAT value in alarms.cfg is not being picked up. :::Log::: 2012-09-24 18:52:16 Ignored unknown/unexpected token 'REPEAT=720' at line 122 Man pages says REPEAT How often an alert gets repeated. As with the DURATION setting, this is in minutes So I was expecting 1 alarm and then it holds for 12 hours until alarms again for the same failure. Has anyone had issues with this working as it should or may I have the syntax wrong?
