Hey, I have a question about file tests. The man pages say FILE filename [color] [things to check] [TRACK] I have a test defined as FILE /tmp/ldap2pw.lck red NOEXIST MTIME>900 How does the "[things to check]" actually parse? Is it an "and" or an "or"? In other words, would that read "the file exists AND hasn't been modified for more than 15 minutes" or "the file exists OR hasn't been modified for more than 15 minutes". I'm assuming "and"...actually I need it to be "and" in this case. Or do I have to explicitly say something like "NOEXIST and MTIME>900"? I can't find anything about that. thx =G=

WinPSClient - Updates?

So it looks like the WinPSClient hasn’t been updated in a few months. I had seen a thread from quite a while ago about some issues David was running into, but can’t tell if he’s still around and willing/able to work on it. I’ve been able to get XymonPSClient.exe (aka SrvAny) to run powershell natively as a 64-bit executable. The only change necessary to enable this was changing the PowerShell executable to running as %windir%\sysnative\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe. The sysnative portion prevents a 32-bit program (SrvAny) from being redirected to %windir%\SysWow64. (See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa384187(v=vs.85).a…) I also found a better service wrapper than SrvAny, namely nssm (http://nssm.cc/) This has the ability to detect if powershell fails and restart it, which is something SrvAny lacks. It also comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, so when using the latter the sysnative piece isn’t necessary. I’ve only been working at this for a day or two, so it probably needs more testing, but it looks promising. Is there any work (design contemplation) about how xymonclient.ps1 could handle external scripts? I assume this was just a future phase and not so much a limitation or barrier that hadn’t yet been overcome. Thanks. --- Jason Richards Pagh

xymond_channel consuming a lot of CPU?

Hi, I saw a little bit about this back in 8/31/12 (http://lists.xymon.com/archive/2012-August/035381.html) but it was never resolved? Has anyone else seen xymond_channel consuming so much CPU time? WinPSClient - Updates?

Just keeping this conversation going… I should start writing my first extension for the Powershell client soon (being held now by a firewall problem that should be fixed in a few days). Has anyone provided a skeleton extension task? For the most part it also seems to be well behaved and not leak memory - it is fairly proactive about explicit garbage collection. On first run it gathers a number of data items from WMI on a much longer refresh cycle and reports them as part of the client report - these items are fairly slow to report and don't change much if at all. While that could be handled by saving and restoring state between runs and using a Scheduled task rather than service runner, it makes things more complicated. Also need to consider measures to prevent multiple instances running if Scheduled tasks fire up when the previous one is still running - for example doing the refresh of the long refresh cycle WMI info (maybe there's an in-built mechanism for this?). External scripts however are much more problematic to manage scheduling for, and using scheduled tasks could be a much better way to handle them. David. I’m very interested on WinPSClient too. I’m planning to install it on a series of servers that we will be configuring in the next few weeks. I second the idea of using Windows Task Scheduler. Has there been any thought on how to enable creating extensions? It could be like what’s done in Unix, or copy what’s done in BBWin. I'd played around with things like start-job in PS, but I hadn't worked through all of the legacy reporting mechanisms from BBNT/BBWin (e.g. writing text files into directory - that's an easy one in practice) but more to the point worked out throttling mechanisms for long-running scripts that don't exit, etc. Had also considered just running external scripts as scheduled tasks, but not had time to investigate.

histlogs cleanup

Hi, I got this xymon ext script checking a Sun StorageTek 6180 array. It works quite well, each run generates a lot of status and data. The problem is it generates about 35000 files in Xymonserver: xymon/data/histlogs/a6180/<test> a month. I'm very interested in keeping history as in graphs and alerts. What are these histlogs files used for by the xymonserver? If they are used just to generate things as they come in then it's no problem deleting them every 2 weeks or so. But if they are used to generate graphs or see alerts history etc then you really don't want to delete them Could anyone shed some light on this? - Roland

[xymon] TLSv1 support for https?

Any chance for a patch to get TLSv1 support for https? I have exactly one URL which is a load balancer that will only return a good status if you specify TLSv1. I use this command to test: openssl s_client -tls1 -connect my.ip.addr:443 I tried ssl3 and ssl2 but the results echo what I see on Xymon which is a failure: 139728778356552:error:1408F10B:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number:s3_pkt.c:337: Any workarounds? Getting Xymon client to send from a specific IP address

Hi everyone. I have a few servers which have multiple IP addresses bound to the same ethernet interface. I am not sure how the Xymon client chooses which IP to use when sending. In a post from Henrik in a different thread it seems like it may be the underlying OS that chooses. My problem is that on a recently built server, the Xymon client reports are coming from the server's aliased IP rather than the primary IP on the interface, so this host's reports show up in the ghost client report.
