Does anyone have an easy installation guide for devmon on Ubuntu? I installed it and got the SNMP_Session perl stuff installed, but I'm not adept enough at linux or perl to get devmon to start for some reason. It's got a start script prebuilt for RedHat but that doesn't work for me and I don't know which paths to edit to make it work. Even if I do get it running it looks like I'll need some advanced configs with OID's that I have no idea about. Devmon was suggested by previous posts so I thought I'd give it a shot. Feature Request - Alerting - ALLSTOP

So, in building out my ruleset for alerts, I have a CPU test for a group of hosts that I have configured to have a weekday and weekend set of alerts. This is among other specific rules for other tests/hosts combinations Down the bottom, I have a catch all rule that I've had to add a decent set of exceptions to which just makes it all that much harder to read the rules. As far as I know, there is no way to stop progression through the rest of the alerts file for a specific alert block. Ie: HOST=%(www*) SERVICE=CPU MAIL alert1 MAIL alert2 HOST=* MAIL alert3 MAIL alert4 I would like to put an ALLSTOP after alert2 to stop alert3/alert4 from getting the CPU alerts. Make sense? Am I doing it wrong? Thanks! --Patrick

How do I add SNMP network traffic graphs into xymon? Back in the old days with BB I used MRTG but I haven't had much luck getting it to work with xymon for some reason. Is there a built in traffic monitor in xymon? I'm not seeing it in any man pages or google searches. Thank you. ------------------------------------------------ *Kris Springer*

Acknowledged yellow alerts stays acknowlegded if they become Red.

Hi, Two weeks ago one of our critical servers went down because we missed a disk space alerts. What was happening? First, xymon was popping up a yellow warning, saying that the disk usage was above the yellow treshold. Our service desk operators acknowledged this warning twice, for one hour. So they could follow up the disk space growth hour by hour. For the 3rth acknowledgement however they acknowledged the warning for 8 hours. Within this time frame the disks reached the red treshold and ended with a 100% occupation -> system down :-( Xymon behaviour. After some investigation I discovered that - Acknowledged alerts stays acknowledged if their status changes from yellow to red. - For tests that are acknowledged, only a mail message is send if their status changes. - The acknowledge icon and time stays active if a test is changing. My Request: Is it possible to disable/reset the acknowledgement of a test if the status of this test changes? If Xymon act like that we wouldn't have missed that critical alert. Kind regards, B-Art

I agree that the "one-size-fits-all" approach in the current code is not the best way of doing it, unless your OS happens to nicely fit into the real+actual+swap metrics mold. However, it doesn't have to be that way. The clientdata handling code is specific for each type of client, and it would be perfectly possible for that code to NOT use the "unix_memory_report()" routine. The client code just needs to generate a status message; it can do that without calling unix_memory_report(). But you need to write some code specifically for that type of client, including the bit that grabs configuration data from analysis.cfg. You can also send data into an RRD file with a different layout, so you can have more data. Getting that rrd-graph to show up on a "memory" status is the tricky part, and right now I would recommend that you simply use a different name for the memory status. So it is not an un-solvable problem, but someone needs to figure out just how the memory metrics can be found by the client code, and how it should be interpreted over on the Xymon server. Problem with "TITLE exec:" in hobbitgraph.cfg

Hello, I am facing the exact same Problem with the TITLE exec: Parameter. Server and Clients are running RHEL 6.4 with Xymon 4.3.7. I am astonished, because the crappy Titles appear as soon as I set TITLE exec: even, when the script doesn't exist, or when I don't set a Script at all. I tried a Perl and a Bash Script, both without success.
