BBWIN for Windows 2008 64bit

Hi, I just downloaded bbwin from http://sourceforge.net/projects/bbwin/files/bbwin/0.13/ to install it on my Windows 2008 64 bit server -- it is my DNS server. After the installation, it didn't add bbwin to 'All Programs' so I browsed the directory tree to c:\Program Files (86)\BBwin\bin and I saw a two green executables: one called 'bbwin' and the other called 'bbwincmd', so I clicked on 'bbwin', and I got. BBWin is a free Big Brother and Xymon client for Windows. This software is under GPL license. Please read the license file. BBWin -install to install the service BBWin -remove to remove the service BBWin -debug <params> to run as a console app for debugging StartServiceCtrlDispatcher being called. This may take several seconds. Please wait. Then the screen goes away. And in 'task manager' I don't see the process running. I have heard that other people has gotten this version to work on 2008 64bit. Please help, thanks. Rod

Problem with conn test

And how often does it fail in Xymon for each host being tested? Does the graph on the "conn" page show any pattern in the failures? The main thing here is to determine if the ping failures are due to a comms outage or a failure within the probe (ie, inside the monitoring server or outside it). Perhaps you could do a packet capture of ICMP packets long enough to include a failure and then check if a packet was sent and received. J

monitoring virtual vips

Greetings, I have virtual vips to monitor -- there will be no client installed on these virtual vips, obviously. I would like to monitor the ping test and see if ports are open. Here is what I have in the hobbit-clients.cfg PORT LOCAL=%(:23456|:8377|:8378|:23455) $" state=LISTEN SUBPAGE=vips I'm still getting only a dash on the vips page -- thanks in advance for any help Rod

Hi No, it only works through a shell running on the target device. It sounds like what you want is prolly available with the http or post content check built into Xymon. If the XML is sent via a post message then you can define a "post" tag in hosts.cfg. Check out the "HTTP Tests" section in the man page. https://www.xymon.com/help/manpages/man5/hosts.cfg.5.html. Or if you need more control over the content being sent (eg custom headers) you can define your own protocol in protocols.cfg. https://www.xymon.com/help/manpages/man5/protocols.cfg.5.html Or for maximum flexibility, create an ext script to run on the Xymon server. external script not working

My custom script is not reporting anything to the Hobbit Server. I'm running this script on the Hobbit server. I have placed my script in /usr/lib/hobbit/server/ext/b.pl. transform REMOTE_USER for display purposes?

There are those who have asked for a way to transform the REMOTE_USER variable when it's used for display purposes (like in the enadis.sh CGI program). This can be perhaps more desirable when client certs are used with +FakeBasicAuth; the rather long identifying strings then used in the xymonpasswd (or comparable) file are a bit ugly. AFAIK, Apache's mod_env will not modify standard CGI environment variables; so the CGI's would have to do it. If they checked if some optional RE was in a config file, they could use that to convert REMOTE_USER into something better suited to display than e.g. /CN=CAcert WoT User/emailAddress=johndoe at nobody.com (trivial example of what a free cert from CAcert might show up as); or there could be a file that just mapped REMOTE_USER values to display names. Overkill, or worthwhile? :-)
