custom script once a day

I have a custom client test that I only want it to be executed once every day at 2:15am. After looking through the man pages of hosts.cfg and alerts.cfg, I am confused on what is the best course of action. From reading the archives, it was indicated to use the cron utility of Linux for it to start at ‘2:15am’. I would like to be alerted only once but the test to run every hour until recovered. The sysadmin arrives at work in the morning and will fix it then and the next time the script runs (every 60 minutes), it will recover and turn green. In the clientlaunch.cfg of the xymon/hobbit client, I’m going to put 15m, am I correct? [xxxxx] ENVFILE $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/etc/hobbitclient.cfg CMD $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/ext/xxxxx.pl LOGFILE $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/logs/xxxxx.log INTERVAL 60m And in the script I’m going to put ‘status+24h’ so that it will not turn purple. $BB $BBDISP "status+24h $HOSTNAME.$TESTNAME $COLOR $MSG” In the alerts.cfg, I have the following: HOST=xxxxx SCRIPT /etc/xymon/xxxxx-emails-geoxx.sh SERVICE=xxxxx COLOR=yellow REPEAT=24h FORMAT=SCRIPT RECOVERED Is this the best course of action? Problems with the COMPACT option in hosts.cfg

Hi to all, I'm using Xymon for years and the most problems could be solved by help pages and "google". But one thing is coming up now, that I want to use the COMPACT option to collapse some monitors into one. After the configuration of the hosts.cgf I've got a "Fatal signal caught!" on xymongen. After some investigation I found that this problem occurred some years ago, but do not found a workaround. I'm using Xymon 4.3.17. Is a solution available now? Purple columns

We recently had a problem where all the standard test columns on a Linux client turned purple for 20 minutes and then resolved themselves. During this time 4 custom tests on that server were working ok. I've looked through logs and can't find anything that gives me any clues as to why this could have happened. Has anyone any idea why it might turn purple like this and then resolve itself with no outside intervention? Thanks, Neil Simmonds

Truncated Email Alerts

Hi We're formatting a few status messages as HTML and we are using the perl HTML script from Andy France/Martin Ward/David Baldwin. Our mails kept getting truncated at around 4000 characters. After looking around in the source code (do_alert.c) I found out that the variable passed to the SCRIPT alert type is limited to 4096 characters. I increased the value to 12288 and recompiled the xymond_alert binary. After replacing it in our production system the script now receives the complete status message. Why can we configure the MAXMSG size for status messages but is the status truncated to 4KB? I'm wondering if there's any harm in upping the MAX_ALERTMSG_SCRIPTS value. Memory? Stabililty? Depends tag on external tests

Hi everyone, Does anyone know if the depends tag was ever moved out of the network code and into the core so it works for external tests? displaying external content within xymon ?

hi all: I wish you a very healthy and happy new year 2k15. My boss want to display external content within xymon. Let me explain; he want to be able to display weather information (related to our DC) and so on. for example our PDU have embeded webserver which show circuit charge, temp and so on. So I want to place a page called PDU or wthatever and click over an object and then see content of the webserver PDU. Put that info over header o footer webpage is a non-sense. So seems to be a kind of test but before mess up everything over our xymon server, whant to hear some feedback from you; masters? Can be this goal be done? Any suggestion about best aproach?
