Hey, I have a few pages that have lots of tests but few servers so I wanted to see if vpage would work for me. It did what I wanted except it has an all or nothing aspect to it. Ideally, vpage would let me keep my organizational structure (including the group headers) and only switch the tests to the rows. Or am I missing something? I read the man page and tried several different setups but couldn't make it work the way I'd hoped. Anyone else managed to get Xymon rendering to work this way? thanks =G=

log monitoring hostname matching trouble

Hello, I'm trying to get log monitoring to work on a new implementation of Xymon (v4.3.24) For whatever reason, my client doesn't seem to be receiving a logfetch.cfg file from the server after it checks in. I've tried a number of combinations of hostname and none of them seem to work: [lpcobwas2p] (hostname only) [lpcobwas2p.hfc.ad] (FQDN, periods) [lpcobwas2p,hfc,ad] (FQDN, commas) None of them seem to work. Any ideas? MAGMA XYMon Web GUI Admin Now Available!

Henrik and Fellow Xymoners, Just for you I have pushed off any real work for today just to get you all a first release of MAGMA the XYMon Web GUI Admin. MAGMA is an add-on web GUI for managing Host, Groups and Alarms on a XYmon 4.3 or newer system. You can find MAGMA at http://www.squidworks.net/magma/ There you will find the description, screen shots and features of MAGMA along with the link to download the source package. It requires MySQL and PHP5 and is very simple to install. All supporting information is included in the tarball. How does it work? --------------------------- It stores all alarm and host/group configs in the SQL database and rewrites the Host.cfg, Analysis.cfg and Alarms.cfg files causing the XYmon system to update its tests and pages based on the changes in these files. It will overwrite the files each time a host is added or edited making the process of updating automatic. To get the full benefit of MAGMA you should place all hosts in "central" mode, although this is not required, without it your management is somewhat restrictive (external test management only). Extraneous DNS queries from Xymon

I have defined some hosts with fake host names: 0.0.0.0 foo.bar.foo # noconn They are defined so that clients may send messages to the Xymon server and have their status displayed. What I don't understand is why my Xymon server insists on performing name queries for foo.bar.foo. Even adding "testip" to the line doesn't eliminate all of the queries. The only way I can make them stop is by making bogus entries in my server's hosts file, of the form: 127.0.0.2 foo.bar.foo There are no xymonnet tests defined for this host. The server is not running xymond_alert or xymongen. What component is querying DNS, and why? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. One more...I have some file tests that are testing for file ages and I want them to go yellow at one threshold, red later...I have rules similar to the following: FILE %/localvolume/customer/.*/schedule/.*.xml$ yellow TYPE=FILE MTIME<2700 FILE %/localvolume/customer/.*/schedule/.*.xml$ red TYPE=FILE MTIME<3600 is there a more succinct way to put that in like: FILE %/localvolume/customer/.*/schedule/.*.xml$ yellow TYPE=FILE MTIME<2700 red TYPE=FILE MTIME<3600? I can't see anything helpful in the man pages or analysis.cfg file itself...the entire FILE section is confusing and somewhat contradictory. It would be nice if all the tests were consistent with regards to color...for example: LOG filename match-pattern [COLOR=color] [IGNORE=ignore-pattern] [TEXT=displaytext] vs FILE filename [color] [things to check] [TRACK] Note there is no "color=" component for FILE (and others). I think this was actually causing a false positive with some of the tests that were set up to use "COLOR=YELLOW", for example (these went straight to red since that is the default non-green state). Also, is there really a need for DIR directory [color] [SIZE<maxsize] [SIZE>minsize] [TRACK] since I'm pretty sure FILE /path red TYPE=dir [SIZE<maxsize] [SIZE>minsize] [TRACK] is equivalent. thanks =G=

proxy issues

Ok - been trying my BEST to track down this issue, but simple of it is we are upgrading a proxy Going from Centos 5.11 (or 7) and from xymon 4.3.10 to Centos 6.7 and xymon 4.3.21 Should be (you would think) as simple as making sure config files are same, or basically copy the /etx/xymon over, bring down old, bring up new on old ip. What is just absolutely weird, that I have YET to track down as to why or what, suddenly now conn, ntp, http, bbd are no longer updated. Everything else seems to be working and updating from proxy to main. What I need help with is why did THOSE just stop? I've been going through the mailing list archives - I've setup a smaller "test system(s)" at the house (all on vm), can get everything working there, but NOT on this.Just any direction on what I could specifically debug to find this problem would be a help. "API monitoring" is pretty generic. If you're referring to an internal web service, then it depends on what the URL that you're hitting is doing and why. If you just want to check that you're getting a 200 response (and, therefore, that you're getting a response in the first place), you don't need an external script to do that. Check out the 'httpstatus' option in hosts.cfg(5) -- xymonnet can do that for you. If you have something more involved, it's common to use xymon to check a specific "health page" on a site that exercises a DB or does whatever site-appropriate backend validation is necessary. You can then use xymonnet to poll that page, possibly paying closer attention to the HTTP response code, and/or looking for a specific string in the body/header, and/or comparing against an MD5 hash of the content... More complicated checks are possible (combo alerts based off of one or more separate checks, or dependency configurations as long as all the components are being checked over TCP by the same xymonnet instance), but depending on your site's needs that might be when it's time to start looking at scripting up a custom xymon test as a solution. Adding to subject line of email notice?

By using a SCRIPT alert you can display whatever you like. As long as you can get it. In this case, the only tricky but is finding the name of the subpage. The "subpage" config directive is intended for web page display and is parsed only by xymongen. The page tags are not actually assigned to each host and so there is no mechanism to query what page a host is on. However you could find a host's subpage by using GNU grep context on the output of the xymoncfg command.
