I wrote a quick python script. cmd = "{BB} {BBDISP} \"status {NODE}.MemoryUtilization {COLOR} str({NOW}) {MSG} \"".format( BB = os.environ["BB"], BBDISP = os.environ["BBDISP"], NOW = datetime.datetime.now(), COLOR="green", MSG="Widgets loaded successfully.", NODE="server01") I ran /usr/lib/xymon/server/bin/bbcmd so I can get to the xymon shell, I was able to verify that the BB environmental variables were there. When I ran the script, it didn't error but it didn't populate the nongreen.html as expected when a new test is executed. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Our dev decided to create a groovy script since the tests it needs to do is complex. He created a small test script which I copied to the ext folder: test.groovy def file1 = new File('C:/Program Files (x86)/BBWin/tmp/test.txt') file1.write 'Test message' Added to externals block: <externals> <setting name="timer" value="3m" /> <setting name="logstimer" value="60s" /> <load value="groovy test.groovy" timer="1m" />  </externals> I Also tried the full path to test.groovy. Restarted the client, I even set the log on as from Local system to Administrator. The file "test.txt" is not created. There's no errors logged in the BBWin.log How can I be sure BBwin is executing the script? Groovy is installed. "C:\groovy-2.4.15\bin\groovy" I am able to run the script from command prompt and the test.txt file is created. How to get Windows Update info from client

I've got the XymonPSClient installed on a number of machines and was wondering if the client gathers any info regarding Windows Update status/history/pending/etc. I've searched the 'clientlog' and there's no mention of Windows Updates anywhere. Does anyone have a way to view Windows Update info from clients? Thanks, *Kris Springer*

Variables in config files

Hi everyone, Is there a way to define a line or part of a line as a variable in the config files, then use that variable in other places, other than the .default line? I know it's possible in alerts, but how about hosts.cfg and hosts.d/*, or analysis.cfg and analysis.d/*? For example, like this: $DOWNTIME='DOWNTIME=*:6:2200:2359:Scheduled maintenance,*:0:0000:0400:Scheduled maintenance' 0.0.0.0 test1.lzb.hq # $DOWNTIME 0.0.0.0 test2.lzb.hq # $DOWNTIME Yes, I realize I could use the .default line, but I can't set that once then have that available everywhere. If I change it later in the config then it won't be available to the rest of the config yet to come. For the variables I'd like to be able to set the variable and have it available throughout the entire config. That way I only have to change it in one place. Right now I have the .default line duplicated many times in my config, and if I have to make a change to them all it starts to become a lot of work. Thanks! terabithia rpms and ntp

Hey JC, I just had an unfortunate issue when I switched my systems to chronyd. Because the Terabithia server RPMs have a hard dependency on the NTP packages, when I removed ntp to replace it with chrony...the Xymon server was uninstalled. Fortunately, this wasn't a critical system but since chrony is an alternate time daemon, it would have been nice if the RPMs didn't require ntp...or we could figure out a better way to install it without --no-deps. According to the xymonserver.cfg, ntp is supposed to be optional. Any thoughts on how to best deal with this? thanks =G=

Monitoring IP change

I have a few remote locations that I monitor with Xymon. What would be the best way to monitor IP address change? I have a FQDN for all of these locations, and I can ping since they are in a VPN setup, but I want to know when the public IP address changes For example lets say location A has IP address 69.142.169.192 and I a FQN of locationA.monitoringsystem.com I monitor the fqdn already with 0.0.0.0. If I add the IP address will it let me know when it changes?

http test flapping

Hey, I'm hoping someone has run into this and was able to track down how to determine why http tests are flapping. They used to run consistently for days but now I'm lucky if the test stays green for more than a minute. It's rarely the same test twice that fails (times out?) and sometimes it's different hosts. The history looks like a christmas-y candy cane. However, if I run curl commands, they work fine. I'm strongly suspicious it's a network or system resource issue but I can't even see anything that is actually logging why it's failing. I've tried bumping the timeout up but that doesn't seem to help. Anyone have any ideas on what I can bump to either get better logs or where else to look? Only http is experiencing this. thanks =G= NB: this is running the Terabithia 4.3.28 RPMs on Centos 7.

Yeah, I think I have some idea what has happened. I think possibly this is to do with having the hobbit-plugins add ons installed, I have a vague memory of having an issue installing these through apt due to having a latest build of xymon (ie not from apt repos), so I think somewhere along the way the client also got installed through apt, even though it was build from source with the server. I will remove the apt version I think, providing it doesnt kill the hobbit plugins.
