Hey JC, I just had an unfortunate issue when I switched my systems to chronyd. Because the Terabithia server RPMs have a hard dependency on the NTP packages, when I removed ntp to replace it with chrony...the Xymon server was uninstalled. Fortunately, this wasn't a critical system but since chrony is an alternate time daemon, it would have been nice if the RPMs didn't require ntp...or we could figure out a better way to install it without --no-deps. According to the xymonserver.cfg, ntp is supposed to be optional. Any thoughts on how to best deal with this? thanks =G=

Monitoring IP change

I have a few remote locations that I monitor with Xymon. What would be the best way to monitor IP address change? I have a FQDN for all of these locations, and I can ping since they are in a VPN setup, but I want to know when the public IP address changes For example lets say location A has IP address 69.142.169.192 and I a FQN of locationA.monitoringsystem.com I monitor the fqdn already with 0.0.0.0. If I add the IP address will it let me know when it changes?

http test flapping

Hey, I'm hoping someone has run into this and was able to track down how to determine why http tests are flapping. They used to run consistently for days but now I'm lucky if the test stays green for more than a minute. It's rarely the same test twice that fails (times out?) and sometimes it's different hosts. The history looks like a christmas-y candy cane. However, if I run curl commands, they work fine. I'm strongly suspicious it's a network or system resource issue but I can't even see anything that is actually logging why it's failing. I've tried bumping the timeout up but that doesn't seem to help. Anyone have any ideas on what I can bump to either get better logs or where else to look? Only http is experiencing this. thanks =G= NB: this is running the Terabithia 4.3.28 RPMs on Centos 7.

Hi all, Another one of those things I keep meaning to ask but keep on forgetting... I'm seeing under the xymond column the following: Multi-source statuses xymon.url.com:cpu reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 xymon.url.com:disk reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 xymon.url.com:files reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 xymon.url.com:inode reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 xymon.url.com:memory reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 xymon.url.com:msgs reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 xymon.url.com:ports reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 xymon.url.com:procs reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 xymon.url.com:uptime reported by 127.0.0.1 and xx.xxx.226.227 Looking through the archive it makes sense, Xymon is receiving data from two sources, which I guess it is, however the two IPs are localhost and the server IP address. I'm guessing this is likely to do with how the things are setup on the server rather than Xymon itself (eg in /etc/hosts)? Can someone point me in the right direction to resolve this? I'm running Xymon 4.3.28 Cheers

Force logfetch to only process complete lines?

RHEL 6.9 and RHEL 7.4 Xymon v4.3.28 This may be documented somewhere and I'm just not able to find it. But is there a way to force logfetch to only scan complete lines and discard any partials it might retrieve based on the MAXCHECK setting? I've been getting quite a few alerts on highly active systems where the offending line would normally be excluded due to the first part of a search that is missing. A simple example, I want to ignore the alert triggers for /var/log/messages where the system name is test-system and :\sheader\ssubject: is also in the line. Since test-system comes right after the date/time stamp, that causes the ignore check to not work if test-system is not retrieved by logfetch. analysis.cfg # Red alert on CRITICAL or ERROR or SERIOUS (with exceptions) LOG %.* %(?-i)CRITICAL|ERROR|SERIOUS COLOR=red IGNORE=%(?-i)test-system.*:\sheader\ssubject: I've tried adjusting the MAXCHECK setting but it didn't make a difference one way or the other. client-local.cfg log:/var/log/messages:10240 # 10KB default log:/var/log/messages:1024000 # 1MB Thanks. ========================================================= Larry D. Hello, I have Xymon configured to show the Apache TRENDS graphs. I've been asked to alert for the "Apache workers" if it reaches a certain threshold. Is this possible? Xymon has a scheduler process called xymonlaunch. On a Xymon server, the configuration file that defines Xymon's scheduled tasks is tasks.cfg. On a Xymon client, the configuration file is called clientlaunch.cfg. The format of clientlaunch.cfg and tasks.cfg is the same. Hello Xymon gurus, I have a test database script, run by userID db2inst1 on an hourly basis by a cron, producing an output text file containing a flag (a word) red/green, for example: cat /tmp/chkpublicprivs.out centos_hp0.NoPublic red db Security WARNING <br> Wed May 9 17:16:33 EDT 2018: PUBLIC access found in abcd database. Xymon picks this up when I manually kick this off this command: /home/xymon/server/bin/bb 172.20.10.5 "status `cat /tmp/chkpublicprivs.out`" When my chkpublicprivs script runs again producing GREEN, it doesn't look like Xymon knows about this. How do we schedule Xymon to run? What parameter that determines that? I know I can put the above Xymon command in a cron but I suspect Xymon has its own scheduling mechanism. Thank you in advance!! PS client on Win Server 2008 R2 - no who or user data

I have multiple Win Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 boxes that I recently upgraded from BBwin to the PSclient. All is well except that there's no [who] or [users] data coming in. It's not purple, it's just blank. This seems to only be a problem with Win Server 2008 boxes, all other versions of Windows are ok. Anyone else experience this? Is there a solution?
