Tips to get custom availability metrics?

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light (or share some code!) on processing the Hobbit data files to generate custom availability reports for servers/test pairs in Hobbit. I'm sure there is a way to do it, I'm just not smart enough to figure it out :-) To better describe my situation - I have all my servers in Hobbit, and then a database that has server details - like site, criticality, ... and I'm looking to be able to run reports like - "what was my conn test uptime for anything at site XYZ", or "what was my http uptime for our business critical apps". I can easily query the database and load the server list into an array as the source list to process, but when it comes to knowing how to process the Hobbit data files to get the % uptime for that list of servers I am lost. I suppose in a perfect solution I'd be looking to be able to populate and array with the list of hostnames, pass that and the test name that I'm looking for to a routine, and get back a single number as the % uptime for that list of hosts for that test. Can you make them "dialup" and then configure an alert for a "recover" message? Then change them to normal? The problem I've got is that we configure the access points here, then ship them to the remote sites for install. They're down until the guys at the remote site get around to unpacking them, renting a scissor lift, and installing them up in the rafters. Once they're plugged in, they're live and a connectivity failure is a problem. I need to see them go green when they get plugged in and change the config so we'll be notified on an outage. And it looks like my idea of the NK page won't work, either. Back to the drawing board. Sorry for my poor english I use Hobbit 4.1.2p1 on FC4 and works fine; I tried to use hobbit-mailack but if I send a Re to a message alert, Hobbit doesn't acknoledge the reply. I cannot understand if my problem is with hobbit configuration or with procmail (ver. 3.22); any help? We have a number of manufacturing and warehouse sites that do bar-code scanning with rf 'guns'. We've been through a cycle of equipment upgrades and swapouts, and I now have about a dozen new rf access points configured in hobbit that are still in the box and not hooked up. I've currently configured them as 'dialup', so we don't get pestered by alerts. But I'd like to know when they actually get installed, so I can drop the 'dialup' tag. Is there a way to do it? We don't currently use the 'NK' pages -- I'm tempted to put these devices, with the 'conn' test, on the NK page and just check it from time to time. Is there a better way? [hobbit] Alerts as .dat attachments

Just to follow up... I'm noticing that the .dat attachments with blank emails are only sent for all recovery emails. This box is running Ubuntu, and I didn't set it up, so I'm not sure where else to look for weirdness with mail. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Hobbit only generates a text file with the URL for the status page; this is then handed off to the "mail" utility installed on the Hobbit server. How that tool formats the e-mail - possible with different MIME codings etc. - is beyond Hobbit's control. Intervals and graphs

Hello, I'm running a Hobbit server and have one other client connecting to it. All are running Linux. So far I've been pleased with it except for one issue. I changed the interval from 5m to 15m for several settings (bbcombotest, bbnet, hobbitclient) in the "hobbitlaunch.cfg" config file (on both the server & client), restarted the Hobbit server and client and then noticed that it stopped graphing. It would still update the current status board, etc. but it stopped adding to the graphs. I let it go like this for a few days and then recently set the intervals back to 5m, restarted the server and client and then it started adding to the graphs again. Is this normal? Shouldn't I be able to run the tests every 15 minutes instead of every 5 and still get graphs? Am I missing something? alternate Icon for empty pages

Hi all, We monitor more than 1300 devices which are located in several countries around the world. All sites are organized with the same pages/subpage/subparent structure, like this : LocationName --- Workstations -------- Unix Workstations -------- Windows Workstations --- Servers -------- Unix Servers -------- Windows Servers --- Printers -------- Ink -------- Laser In many cases, some of these subpages are empty (For example, some local sites don't have any Laser printers). For these empty pages, the default icon is a green diamond. My question is : is it possible to have a specific icon that says the subpage is empty ? Thank you for your support. sendmail graphs

How does one enable [sendmail] graphs? I have searched the mailing list archives but cannot find any hints. I'm using version 4.1.2p1. Things I have done so far: on solaris clients, edited "hobbitclient-sunos.sh" inserted lines: ***** echo "[sendmail]" mailstats ***** on linux clients, edited "hobbitclient-linux.sh" inserted lines: ***** echo "[sendmail]" mailstats ***** on the hobbit server, added "TRENDS:*,sendmail:sendmail|sendmail1" to each host monitored. I don't see any graphs for sendmail on the hobbit webpage. Any inputs?
