Hello. Recently our hobbit service is aborting, with the following message: Worker process died with exit code 15, terminating which can be found on enadis.log, larrd-data.log and larrd-status.log. Could someone please tell me what does that mean? It probably is the hobbitd module crashing, but why? Best, Eduardo Greif

Logrotate improvement

Hello Henrik (or rpm-maintainers?!), The current hobbit.logrotate file contains a minor error. The last section is: postrotate su -c "/etc/init.d/hobbit rotate" hobbit endscript I think two things are mixed up because this command asks for a password (running a root-script). It should be: /etc/init.d/hobbit rotate -or- su - hobbit -c"/usr/lib/hobbit/server/hobbit.sh rotate" regards, Peter

I having many problems setting bbcombotest I have setted this combotest ing bbcombotest.cfg Flexlm.zeh = (lic1.zeh + lic2.zeh + lic3.zeh) >= 2 lic1, lic2 and lic3 are servers zeh is the license I want to monitor at this redundant servers. Flexlm is not a server. In bb-host, I have this entry: 0.0.0.0 Flexlm # noconn zeh nopropred=,zeh Sometimes this work, somethimes dont. I recieve this msg : zeh NOT ok : DNS lookup failed Unable to resolve hostname Flexlm What can I use ? --no-ares ??? Thanks Antonio Marques

When using the hobbit client you need to set those on the Hobbit server in the $BBHOME/etc/hobbit-clients.cfg file. There is no client side configuration for the hobbit client, at least for notification thresholds. Thanks Larry - I overlooked the obvious. The working servers have a fully qualified domain name in /etc/sysconfig/network. The non working servers just have the host name. This behavior is usually caused by the host names not agreeing between the hobbit client and server. The hobbit client uses the return from 'uname -n' for the name it reports to the server. If this doesn't match whats in bb-hosts, hobbitd will just discard the message. Hobbit 4.1.0 available - includes Unix client

Hobbit 4.1.0 is available now on http://www.hswn.dk/hobbitsw/, and will be uploaded to Sourceforge in a few hours as I get the pre- compiled binary packages ready. This release fixes a number of bugs in the previous version (4.0.4), most notably some bugs that could allow an attacker to crash the Hobbit server by sending certain malformed messages to the Hobbit server. It is therefore recommended that you upgrade your Hobbit installation. This release also has some optimizations in the hobbitd and hobbitd_alert tools, that improve the performance of Hobbit in large installations. The big change causing the version number to go from 4.0 -> 4.1, however, is the addition of a brand new Hobbit client implementation. The Hobbit client is included with support for Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, HP-UX (untested) and Darwin (untested). Support for other Unix-like operating systems will appear as soon as possible; support for Windows-based systems is not currently planned, but will most likely appear later this year. The Hobbit client reports data for the "cpu", "disk", "memory" and "procs" columns in Hobbit, as well as feeding the "netstat" and "vmstat" graphs. It does not currenly handle system log monitoring (the "msgs" status column). The Hobbit client is compatible with most extension scripts written for the Big Brother client. Unlike other client implementations, the Hobbit client has no client-side configuration. All disk thresholds, process checks etc. are configured on the Hobbit server; no configuration is needed on the systems running the Hobbit client. See the etc/hobbit-clients.cfg file on your Hobbit server for a description of how to configure the client software. The Hobbit client is automatically installed and activated when a Hobbit server is installed. Client-only installations are described in the README.CLIENT file included with Hobbit 4.1. Hi All Seems like BBALPHAMSG is being ignored by hobbit-4.1.1 server. I have a script that were able to scan the content of BBAPLHAMSG before sending page. But it is not working anymore ever since I upgraded the hobbitd server. Anyone else experiencing this?
