i assumed that setting REPEAT=0 would be "NOREPEAT"... well, i was wrong ;) how can i setup a alarm not to be repeated ? (i could just set a high a high number i guess..) -- Olivier Beau

i wasn't succesful to get PAGE to match when using a subpage or subparent.. and i'm wondering what PAGE actually matches for instance, i have page unix unix subpage mail mail subparent mail mx mx //my mx servers... lets say mx0 can hobbitd matches mx0 with PAGE=unix ? or PAGE=mail ? and what happens when hosts are on several pages ?? -- Olivier Beau

DURATION tag

I have been seeing what I think is a problem with the "DURATION" tag. I keep getting alerted for very short outages on different tests when I have a duration tag that I don't think is ever exceeded. For instance, I have the following rule: HOST=$UNIXPROD MAIL $SYSADMIN COLOR=red EXSERVICE=cpu,iostat,vmio,oracle,oracle9 REPEAT=30m RECOVERED MAIL $SYSADMIN COLOR=red SERVICE=oracle DURATION>10m REPEAT=30m RECOVERED MAIL $SYSADMIN COLOR=red SERVICE=oracle9 DURATION>10m REPEAT=30m RECOVERED MAIL $SYSADMIN COLOR=red SERVICE=cpu DURATION>1h REPEAT=1h RECOVERED TIME=W:0800:1700 MAIL $SYSADMIN COLOR=purple REPEAT=1h RECOVERED Then I got this alert: red Sat Mar 26 21:23:09 EST 2005 Oracle test on "RM01": WARNING And here is the data from the "hist" log [root at sknxmon02 hist]# tail sfdomain2.oracle Sat Mar 26 20:43:05 2005 yellow 1111887785 2404 Sat Mar 26 21:23:09 2005 red 1111890189 I get alerted immediately upon a red state! I have put in durations of up to 5 hours, just to be sure but when a test goes red, I get the alert right away. Does anybody else have these problems? Problem with TIME in hobbit-alerts.cfg

I am having difficulty with the TIME paramter on one of my hosts. There is a weekly downtime scheduled from Saturday evening at 9:30 pm until Sunday morning at 5:00 am. I have the following entry in hobbit-alerts.cfg: HOST=myhost SERVICE=myservice TIME=W:0000:2359,6:0000:2130,0:0500:2359 The bb-display.log shows: Bad timespec (missing colon or wrong weekdays): W:0000:2359 This is one of about 45 entries in hobbit-alerts.cfg, but the only one where I am using W for weekdays, per the NKTime defs from man bb-hosts. I do not see wht I am doing wrong here. Hi I saw in the hobbitd section of hobbitlaunch.cfg file an option --purple-conn=conn. What is that mean? I did a man on hobbitd and I did not see any such option. bbstatus section

Hi I see by default I have hobbitd_filestore enabled in my bbstatus section. However since I have BBLOGSTATUS set to DYNAMIC (uupercase) by default, I should just disable the hobbitd_filestore. Now is there cool way of disabling it OR I just uncomment that section in hobbitlaunch.cfg file? As you previously told me, I made a new bbdisplay section in hobbitlaunch.cfg like this: [bbdisplay-tier0] ENVFILE /home/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg NEEDS hobbitd GROUP generators CMD $BBHOME/ext/ps0.sh --ignorecolumns=msgs LOGFILE $BBSERVERLOGS/bb-display.log INTERVAL 5m And then made a file to build the pageset: BBWEB="/hobbit/ps0" $BBHOME/hobbit/bin/bbgen \ --pageset=ps0 --ignorecolumns=msgs \ $BBHOME/www/ps0/ I tried using the --ignorecolumns=msgs directive in either and then both sections but it dodn't work. Executive overview of Hobbit?

Even though we have been using Big Brother for over a year, and it has been in our Operations staff's hands now for several months, I have been asked to prepare an executive level overview for our tech support staff and management. Seems that if our operations staff ha sno problem, our theoretically highly skilled tech staff should have no problems at all. Many of them however, including me, come from a mainframe techincal background and have become extremely reliant on having shelves of documentation describing the various methods of getting to the last line of a file in vi. So - that having been said, does anyone know of such a thing that someone has already put together that I could shamelessly beg, borrow or steal from? It doesn't matter waht format or how pretty, etc., I can take care of that. Maybe you have done such a thing already for your company. I would relly appreciate it if you could forward it to me or point me to a place to access it. I would be happy to point appropriate credit for anything that i can use. Thanks! notifications.log question

it looks like there is only one log file in hobbit. (in bb, i'm used to look at notifications.log and recoverymsgs.log) how do i know what is an alarm and what is a recovery in hobbit's notification.log ? -- Olivier Beau
