sending results to another server

I just built a new xymon server on a new vlan - it will eventually replace my existing xymons on the old vlan. There are two xymons in different data centers. I'm sending the results of each to the other's page with the summary command - summary A-xymon.All 1.2.3.4 http://A-xymon/xymon/ works great works great. But trying to send the summary to the new xymon on the new vlan, not getting through. summary A-xymon.All 5.6.7.8 http://A-xymon/xymon/ fails I'm assuming this is a firewall issue - but I don't know the route this is taking. Would it be coming in on port 1984 like the regular xymon traffic?

Acknowledge alert doesn't work on pages with page name longer than 18 characters.

Hi, I have run into issues with acknowledging alerts on pages where page name is longer than 18 characters. The ack page is just empty - it doesn't show any form. The acknowledge.cgi script throws "malloc(): memory corruption" error when its error output is redirected to some file. I have track it down to memory allocation in acknowledge.c on line 292: "re = (char *)malloc(8 + strlen(pagename));" I believe that allocating "(8 + strlen(pagename))" of memory for "re" is not enough if we put the pagename into it twice in the next line "sprintf(re, "%s$|^%s/.+", pagename, pagename);". I'm not quite sure why it works for names shorter than 19 chars though. External Powershell script not working

We've created an external powershell script for monitoring one of our Exchange servers. The script has been listed in the externals section of BBwin.cfg and we've verified the script is outputing to C:\Program Files (x86)\BBWin\tmp but the results aren't showing up on the xymon server page. We have other servers running external scripts but haven't been able to determine the difference between the working external script and the non-working one. Generally, test names in bb-hosts are used only by the "network" tests (xymonnet or bbnet). Everything else uses their own configurations, typically in-script variables or separate configuration files. It's possible for a script to fetch it's configuration elements from bb-hosts, but that's not very common, and requires the script to do some extra work to get it. Everything else is incidental or superfluous. Even the [foo] in hobbitlaunch.cfg is arbitrary, and as long as its unique, it can be any alphanumeric string of reasonable length. There's no reason to list the test name in the bb-hosts file. Your script needs to know the host name(s) it's going to test. Can you show the script? Have you looked at myscript.log? J

BBWIN for Windows 2008 64bit

Hi, I just downloaded bbwin from http://sourceforge.net/projects/bbwin/files/bbwin/0.13/ to install it on my Windows 2008 64 bit server -- it is my DNS server. After the installation, it didn't add bbwin to 'All Programs' so I browsed the directory tree to c:\Program Files (86)\BBwin\bin and I saw a two green executables: one called 'bbwin' and the other called 'bbwincmd', so I clicked on 'bbwin', and I got. BBWin is a free Big Brother and Xymon client for Windows. This software is under GPL license. Please read the license file. BBWin -install to install the service BBWin -remove to remove the service BBWin -debug <params> to run as a console app for debugging StartServiceCtrlDispatcher being called. This may take several seconds. Please wait. Then the screen goes away. And in 'task manager' I don't see the process running. I have heard that other people has gotten this version to work on 2008 64bit. Please help, thanks. Rod

CPU USAGE DISPLAY (CPU Statistics)

best (or any) way to remember disabled tests on the main page?

I'm not really sure how to explain this but hopefully it will make sense Let's say the main Xymon page is divided up as follows: prod --> 8 servers devel --> 8 servers One of the 'prod' servers has a known issue causing it to go red, so we disable the test and it switches to blue. Is there any way to reflect this on the main page (which has now, of course, gone back to green)? Ideally, I'd like to see the name of the server group ("prod" in the example) change to blue from white on the main view to remind me there's an ignored test. But I don't want the "main view" colour to change from green Possible? Easy? Thanks

Problem with conn test

Hello, I have expanded the number of clients to test with xymon putting some internet-vpn-router of our company. Now I have the problem, that the conn tests very often failing on some hosts, generating a lot of alert e-mails. But if I use a terminal on the xymon server and ping the clients "manually" there is no timeout. I wonder why xymon is detecting a timeout for this hosts. The xymon server is a vmware virtual machine with ubuntu 12.04 LTS server on an esx 5.0.0 latest patches. This morning I've update xymon from 4.3.10 to 4.3.17 and updated the vmware-tools on that machine, but the problem still remains. What happend to that? monitoring virtual vips

Greetings, I have virtual vips to monitor -- there will be no client installed on these virtual vips, obviously. I would like to monitor the ping test and see if ports are open. Here is what I have in the hobbit-clients.cfg PORT LOCAL=%(:23456|:8377|:8378|:23455) $" state=LISTEN SUBPAGE=vips I'm still getting only a dash on the vips page -- thanks in advance for any help Rod

Hi No, it only works through a shell running on the target device. It sounds like what you want is prolly available with the http or post content check built into Xymon. If the XML is sent via a post message then you can define a "post" tag in hosts.cfg. Check out the "HTTP Tests" section in the man page. https://www.xymon.com/help/manpages/man5/hosts.cfg.5.html. Or if you need more control over the content being sent (eg custom headers) you can define your own protocol in protocols.cfg. https://www.xymon.com/help/manpages/man5/protocols.cfg.5.html Or for maximum flexibility, create an ext script to run on the Xymon server.
