What determines displayed columns?

All - Besides adding specific tags for services / tests in hosts.cfg, what determines which service columns appear on web page for a particular client? I.e. I have some clients in my environment which do not have any tags in hosts.cfg, but display several "tests". I see part of the puzzle: the client runs (in my case): ~/xymon/client_sunos-5.10/bin/xymonclient-sunos.sh, which generates the following columns of data date uname uptime who df mount prtconf memory swap swaplist ifconfig route netstat ports ifstat ps top I also see there's a file called ~/xymon/client/etc/clientlaunch.cfg, which is like the server-side "tasks.cfg" in concept / syntax. However, what determines which of these stanzas applies for which-host? What are these old *.tmp.<pid> files?

[xymon]problems setting to 'derive'

Hello, I'm using 2 test using same data to compare the difference between gauge & derive (derive is the best choice, because data that is continuously increasing in value between 00:00 and 23:59 When graph using Gauge, values are correct : field03a: 5 field03b: 17 field03c: 14 field04a: 3 field04b: 12 field04c: 15 Total: 66 => same values in graph But when i switch to derive, values in graphs look like field03a: 6m field03b: 4m field03c: 5.8m field04a: 4m field04b: 2m field04c: 2m Total: 0 Maybe i'm understing correctly 'derive' or there another things goes wrong ? experience with BMC Patrol

My organization is trying to replace Xymon with BMC Patrol (I suspect its politics more than any dissatisfaction with Xymon). I don't have any experience with this product, but if it is like other BMC products that I'm familiar with calling it a piece of junk would be giving it too much credit. Does anybody here have any experience with this product. What are it's strong points? Weak points? Thanks, Larry Barber

xymon rename oldhost newhost not working

So I am running this command: /home/xymon/server/bin/xymon 127.0.0.1 "rename prod-hostold prod-hostnew" I press enter and nothing comes up just the prompt. I check to see old rrd data, history data -- nothing. When checking history of a previous event I get "Historical status log not available" for the rrd graphs, I have to manually copy the files in data/rrd/<old host> to <new host> . there must be an easier way of doing this! tom.

Xymon with Bacula

Xymon Users, I was wondering if anybody had experience with using xymon to monitor a bacula backup server. I am running a dedicated xymon server, and the bacula backup server is offsite for backup reasons. I have a xymon client only installation on the bacula server so I can receive cpu, disk, and the other system monitors. I came across this xymon extension script ( http://www.revpol.com/xymon_bacula_check_script ) and I installed in on the client side ( bacula backup server ). I followed the instructions (using method 2 bconsole access & modifying the script to fit my environment ) and the test of the xymon user ability to use bconsole works fine. I am not seeing a backup or bacula section on the xymon server webpage. My guess is that I have to add it somehow to the hosts.cfg file on the server side but this is my first custom script / xymon extension that I had to use so I'm not sure what the syntax should look like for the hosts.cfg. Should I specify the full script name like this ( 155.x.x.101 backup # ssh xymon_bacula_check.sh )? Perhaps there is something else im missing server side that needs to be done like put the custom script in server/ext ? QNAP

Xymon Friends, If it exists, what is the best way to monitor QNAP servers using xymon? I want to install a xymon client on it so I can monitor more than just network services, but I'm unsure if theres a specific way I should go about it since I'm dealing with QNAP hardware. Does anybody know any tips or third-party monitor scripts that are helpful with QNAP servers and NFS operations in general? Appreciate the responses. TS - Program crashed - Fatal signal caught! - 2nd try

In the 3 years I have been running Xymon 4.3.0-0.beta2 on my CentOS system, I have never seen this error: Under the ICON 'hobbitd_client' on the primary Xymon server: Program crashed Fatal signal caught! The HISTORY shows nothing to give me a idea of what happened. The Client data doesn't show anything either (it is attached). If I 'restart' Xymon, the ICON stays RED. If I reboot the server, the ICON stays RED. How do I get the ICON back to GREEN? Does anyone know what is going on? [Newbie] Smaller, lighter Xymon based program?

I am very new to linux and xymon is my first project, can anyone help me add a test to test the clusters we are monitoring? I am very new, I have only really touched the hosts.cfg and the analysis.cfg to add the infrastructure and a few services to be monitored on the servers we have set up. I have installed roughly 600 xymon clients manually, we have no method that we are allowed to use to push them. Now I just need to customize the monitoring more for our environment. I also need to figure out how to make a test that will monitor the Microsoft Message Queuing, I have no clue on how I will do that. Can anyone help me out, I need some specific instructions to work with, I am doing my best to set this up with very little knowledge on linux. Thanks in advance!!!
