How To or RFE - documenting each alert?

As our environment becomes more complex, our NOC folks are asking that we find a way to document *each* alert. On the built in tests, there's a place in Xymon to put one piece of documentation for our entire enterprise- for example, I can add a link to the "http" dot in columndoc.csv that points to our doc wiki , and there's a way to put in documentation linked to the host name - but what we desperately need is a way to document *each* host-test pair. What we want is to be able to click on a red dot in the All Non-Green view, and see a link showing how to resolve that alert. Clicking on a red dot for host1 http red alert should show the link for how to resolve a host1 http alert, and clicking the red dot for host2 http should show a link for how to handle host2 http. Different server's http alerts require different NOC actions. Is there a way anyone can think of to do this? Does anyone else see a need for this?

xymon freebsd memory calculations

Hi people, I was just trying to track down why the memory used was showing 0% on my FreeBSD systems and have found an interesting bug. The logic in xymond/client/freebsd.c is a little funny with fall back positions depending on what is supplied from the client, but essentially if there is no vmtotal section in the client data (old client) then the figure is used from meminfo which has been pretty good (but perhaps not perfect). If there is a section Free Memory Pages in the vmtoal section then that number is used in preference. Problems: The number is in K bytes so must be adjusted for use. The offset to the end of the searched for string is 19 not 18 (must count the leading newline). We arent calculating memphyused if we use the vmtotal method. The string Free Memory Pages: changes to Free Memory: with revision 234134 by eadler, Wed Apr 11 14:18:18 2012 UTC to /head/sbin/sysctl/sysctl.c (http://svnweb.freebsd.org/base/head/sbin/sysctl/sysctl.c?r1=234133&r2=23413…) My suggested fix is to change the logic at line 82 onwards in xymond/client/freebsd.c to read as follows: if (vmtotalstr) { p = strstr(vmtotalstr, "\nFree Memory Pages:"); if (p) { memphysfree = atol(p + 19)/1024; memphysused = memphystotal - memphysfree; found++; } else { p = strstr(vmtotalstr, "\nFree Memory:"); if (p) { memphysfree = atol(p + 13)/1024; memphysused = memphystotal - memphysfree; found++; } } } Regards, Brian Scott P.S. disable the port test

Hi, I'm using Xymon 4.3.0-0.beta2 et I want to disable the port test. Actually it doesn't appear but the check isn't disable. One of my xymon client had a lot of connections* and the scan create huge logs dans make load sometime. I tried : # bb 127.0.0.1 "drop [HOSTNAME] port" On the xymon server but nothing happens :( Is it possible to completely disable it? Clients not loading custom client-local.cfg values

Greetings, We have a variety of servers in our environment which we¹re looking to monitor with Xymon. I¹ve recently built a Xymon server 4.3.7 and compiled some clients on our SUSE 9 machines. When running the clients they only seem to match the entries in the client-local.cfg file on the server for [linux] and not the custom entries which I created [suse-srvs]. I¹ve tried launching the client with with class=suse-srv but to no avail. conn-test on multihomed hosts: no graphing of resonse-time?

Hi Xymonians, hi Henrik, in my setup (xymon-4.3.7) the conn-check for multihomed hosts: conn={best,|worst,}IP1[,IP2...] does not graph the response-time of the additional IPs (IP1, IP2, ...). If this is a configuration-setting stop reading here; any hints to configure this correctly are appreciated. While latency-graphing for the additional IPs is not essential it's different from the behaviour of the other network-tests where the response/latency is graphed even if multiple target for the same test are specified (e.g. http-checks). My _guess_ would be that this is not supported as the multihomed-feature was added later and changing the rrd-file naming-scheme could cause trouble with existing installations of xymon. As there is currently a big rework of the xymonnet-module is going on and rev. 6969 just added the "conn="-feature I thought this might be a good time to change this _if_ it is desired at all. problem blueing out many Xymon monitors

Hi all, I'm having problems when i try to blue out a lot (hundreds) of Xymon monitors. An authorised Xymon client sends four commands to blue out many monitors to one Xymon server (v4.2.3). This Xymon server propagates data to other two Xymon servers (3 IP's in BBDISPLAY) and bbgen updates all the pages with hosts being blued out. The problem is that few monitors still remain green/red but not blue! It seems to me the packets were not received or dropped by busy Xymon server. Maybe it's just too many control messages to handle and the packet queue, if there is one, is too short? Please advise. Thanks, Arunas

Master slave config question

Hi, I have xymon 4.3.7 running in a master slave configuration with the distribute module enabled. Enable/disable messages are being sent to the slave as expected.
