Changing sender of alert emails?

Hi Folks - I have 2 instances of Xymon running (one internal to my network and one external). We have decided we want to set up the ability to ack over email. This is very easily set up (already did it on the internal version), except for one small detail, email from BOTH comes from xymon at mydomain.com. This means that replying to this address can only go to one or both. Both kind of stinks, as it means one system will be getting bad ack's all the time (and then xymond will go yellow). I'd like to set the email sender on the external instance to something different, but can't seem to find it anywhere in any of the configs. I looked through alerts.cfg and the man page and nothing stood out to me. Is this possible? Thanks! Skadz

sending data without running a client

Is it possible to send data directly to the xymon server from another server without having a xymon client sending it? We have some production servers where I am not comfortable installing the client because it wants packages that are not already installed on those servers. Can I have my own scripts send data directly? ---------- Elizabeth Jones

HTML Format removal form email

All, I have formated the messages from my devmon tests as html tables, which looks very nice on the Xymon web pages, but not so good when emailed out in alerts. Is there any trick to getting the html tags replaced for tabs and cr so it looks ok on email? I guess a bit of a script with some regex transforms would do it. Thanks, ian.

Windows Mount Points

Not sure what the windows guys do (at the O/S level), but BBWin monitors these for us. I know they in some cases had to make a change. client with wrong host name

I have been using Xymon sucessfully for several weeks on my local machine as a client / server. I have now attempted to move the client portion to another system. Per the CLIENT.READ me, all I had to do was create a xymon user and copy the /home/xymon/client directory over to the cleint. I started the client and all appeared well. However, the hostname on that system is generic and doesn't resolve to the correct DNS. In other words the host name on that system (1.2.3.4) is hostname. However, "hostname" resolves over the network as 4.3.2.1. So, when the ping test runs, it runs for 4.3.2.1. Another thing to note is that on the ghost screen, there is a ghost showing as reporting from that host... but also shows that the same host name is a Candidate. How do I tell Xymon that they are the same thing? Also, I am having another problem on the client whereas I'm getting a "connection refused" when trying to send the the xymon command. I have to assume this means that this is local to that machine. BBWin external downtime

We have a new external script that we only want to run every 30 minutes between 08:20 and 22:20. I know I can add a timer value in BBWin.cfg to only run every 30 minutes but I can't seem to find a way to specify that it only runs between 08:20 and 22:20 Does anyone know if there is a way to do this on the Xymon server side as I suspect there is no way to do it on the client side (other than scheduling the script through windows which I want to avoid if possible). DNS lookup occurs even with noconn

Hi all, I have databases and webpages in my hosts.cfg like this.. 0.0.0.0 Oracle_Enterprise_Manager # prefer noping noconn https://ictoem01.stanwell.com:7801/em/console # Obviously a web page 0.0.0.0 soapro # prefer noconn # This is an oracle database which I have tests sent to. What I find is that even with noconn, it still attempts to resolve the server name ie Oracle_Enterprise_Manager I have managed to fix this by modifying xymonnet.c on line 839 >From this... if (!h->testip && (dnsmethod != IP_ONLY)) add_host_to_dns_queue(h->hostname); to this if (!h->testip && !h->noconn && (dnsmethod != IP_ONLY)) add_host_to_dns_queue(h->hostname); Any comments or possible breaking of Xymon?? vmware or similar virtual image

Hello and good afternoon I'd like to kindly ask you for help with this. I really think the community needs an easy to use virtual image of this tool. Easy available for those like me with no time for linux and which know the os, however, they are not experienced when we compare them to those which work on linux on a day to day basis I have an old installation of Xymon 4.2.3 on Fedora 10 vmware. I get in with the free inodes and free disk space troubles 2-3 times per year, and then load the old backup of the virtual image. I'd like to have the latest version of xymon with no problems regarding the inodes issue. Back, an year ago I was not able to find an easy solution to the inodes issue, being 100% full. Free disk space is ok and I can handle it. I am no linux expert and have less and less time to read and troubleshoot it. Can you please help with an image, prepared with the latest xymon and snmp support eventually. Then I will configure the hosts and the alerts. Its really journey to install and update all packages all over again for someone which is not a linux person a day to day basis. So, this will greatly help me and I think it will really help to alot of people to try it. Everyone can try with this out of the box solution. ESXi is also ok, or vmware player simple virtual image. It will be wonderful if someone shares it's virtual image or someone prepares. Thanks
