Xymonlaunch died - no alert

Hello, I'm running Xymon 4.3.7 on a test server, and found this morning that the 'xymonlaunch' process had died. The server is a bit flaky, so I very much suspect that this is due to a server memory fault and not the code :-) The xymonlaunch log file shows it starting up a few days ago, then nothing. What is a concern is that Xymon itself gave no indication that xymonlaunch had died. The 'non-green' page shows one local test ('msgs') as red due to some other event, but 'xymond', 'xymongen' and 'xymonnet' show green. However, if I click on the xymongen or xymonnet page then it shows a purple background. Is xymonlaunch not itself monitored as a process by Xymon? Show trends graph as test?

Hello, Using Xymon 4.3.7 I see that the 'trends' column can show graphs for the host network interface (network traffic/bits per second) and disk I/O utilisation (from iostat). My understanding is that the information comes from each host via the client data. My question is, is it possible to get these two items reported as separate tests? That is, as a test named (say) 'iostat' which shows the disk I/O utilisation graph as seen in 'trends'. And another test called 'netstat' (or 'ifstat') for the network traffic graph? The data is already being collected (as evidenced by the trends column), but I'm not sure how to breakout these graphs so that they can be reported as individual specific tests with their own column. SMS alerts

Hello, I just enable the SMS alerts for a SERVICE but seems that something it's not ok because I get the alert even when the SERVICE it's GREEN. If I add the option REPEAT=5m I get the SMS every 5 minutes even if the services it's ok. SCRIPT /home/xymon/server/bin/sms/sms.sh SERVICE=instance_demo COLOR=red or SCRIPT /home/xymon/server/bin/sms/sms.sh SERVICE=instance_demo COLOR=red REPEAT=5m I was not able to use $RCPT "$BBALPHAMSG" inside the script /home/xymon/server/bin/sms/sms.sh. Seems that the these variables has not been exported at the run time. ./sendsms.sh $RCPT "$BBALPHAMSG" . The email alert it's working properly for the same service. I recently implemented acknowledgements via email. Today we notice that the ack is by postmaster. I'm not thrilled by that. Did I set something up wrong? Is there a way to get the actual email address of the ack'er in the acknowledgement? html_mail1.2 is using simple hostname instead of FQDN in the link in the message

Hello out there, Perhaps there's anybody else using alerts:html_mail1.2 which is available from http://xymonton.org/alerts:html_mail1.2 I've set it up and i've done some changes to the way it sends the subject and the body. All of this is working fine. There's one thing that makes me wonder and I've tried a bit for me, but I'm concerned why I cannot get this to work. The body of the eMails coming from the perl script contains a link to the affected host, for example: http://XYMONHOST/xymon-cgi/bb-hostsvc.sh?HOST=testhost&SERVICE=http But I need to have the link as follows: http://XYMONHOST.FULL-QUALIFIED-DOMAIN/xymon-cgi/bb-hostsvc.sh?HOST=testhos… This is due to the fact that we do monitoring for different customers having their Xymon servers with different domain names. For example, we have a Xymon server xymonA.domainA.org and another one called xymonB.domainB.org. Therefore I need the fully qualified hostname in the link. While reviewing the perl code of the script I recognized a section "Retrieve the data from the environment variables". Within there I inserted a line $BBSERVERHOSTNAME = $ENV{'BBSERVERHOSTNAME'} || ""; The syntax is the same as for the other variables. Then I changed the line containing the subject for the eMail to contain this variable instead of $BBSERVERWWWNAME. As last step I changed the setting for the XYMONSERVERHOSTNAME (which is also set as BBSERVERHOSTNAME) in xymonserver.cfg. After restarting the xymon services and the webserver I'm still getting eMails containing the link WITHOUT having the fully qualified hostname. I'm NOT getting entries in /var/log/xymon/alert.log saying that the variable $BBSERVERHOSTNAME is uninitialized. When commenting out the line $BBSERVERHOSTNAME = $ENV{'BBSERVERHOSTNAME'} || ""; in the perl script, then I get this message. For me this means, that I might have done the most things the right way; didn't i? Anybody out there having an idea? Sorry if my english isn't at 100%.... Problems with the PROC test

Hello, I have the following in my hobbit-clients.cfg file: HOST=%srvc-* PROC java 1 1 red PROC mule 2 2 red I have about 10 servers that fit this naming convention. However, only 3 of them are performing this test. The other 7 state "No process check defined" but the running processes are listed. All 10 of the servers are communicating with the Xymon server with no issues. The 3 that are working were built a while ago...maybe about a year ago and not my be. The other 7 were built recently. There is something different between these 2 sets of servers, but I don't know what it is. They are all running the same version of Xymon and CentOS. They are all reporting to the same server. It almost looks like some sort of permission error. Can someone point me where to look? Filesystem permission, config file... Thanks, Chris

Installing packaged version of xymon-client

I installed the Xymon server and client packages on an Ubuntu host without problems, and they seemed to work really well. I then went to a client machine, and installed xymon_4.3.7_i386.deb using dpkg -i and it appears that no files were created in /etc/init.d/ (unlike on the server). This appears to be a known issue: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3388971&group_id=1… ... this makes me wonder if anything else is missing? Thomas
