Order of values in analysis.cfg

Hello to the list, this is probably the 50st question about this..... Can anybody guide me to understand, how individual machine thresholds, default thresholds and class thresholds are interpreted in analysis.cfg for different servers and in which order? Is it that way, that it looks to the class of a host and applies the values of the class first, then the rule per hostname, and then the default? Or does it stop at the first match? findhost + enadis not working after in-place upgrade

Hi, Where should I look to find out why findhost + enadis GUI's doesn't work at all - findhost returns no hits what so ever and enadis boxes aren't populated with servers at all... (Xymon 4.3.30-1.el7.terabithia). Looked thru the logs, but nothing seems out of order? Regards, Carl

Monitoring folder size, without saveing the whole folder structure

Hi, I have a backup folder which I monitor the folder size of. I do that by using the DIR configuration and a TRACK tag, which is working fine. But every time the client reports in it includes the whole folder structure under the folder I monitor which is big, so the "Client data" file is big and take up a lot space on the server. So what is the best way to avoid that? I have a couple of suggestions, but others are mostly welcome: 1. Set a cron job to delete the files when they are certain age. 2. Maybe some configuration on the DIR command which stop it from sending the sub folders. 3. create a custom script which send the size of the folder I want to monitor. Thanks, Kim

Running a custom test on multiple clients.

On the Windows PSXymon or (shudder) BBWin client, you can run an external script by specifying it in the client-config file. Client can download from a central repository using URL or BB: (from Xymon server) link to run every scan or on slow scan. Therefore, changes to script are immediately distributed. The script can write an output file to TMP folder and that is picked up and displayed on Xymon console (name of file becomes name of column). As Windows clients were built to mimic the Linux client, I would assume there is a mechanism there as well. *Timothy L. Hello,?I am trying to figure out if there's a way to write a custom test on the xymon server and then run that test on each client as the client. I am aware of the ability to write a test on the server and then use XYMONGREP to run a test on each machine as the server, but the problem with that is, as far as I can tell, you can only run unauthenticated checks from the outside of the system. Say, for example, I want to monitor a log file using xymon on each client. If I were able to run the check on each system itself as the authenticated xymon user I could do that easily, but I wouldn't be able to view that file from the outside with another computer without first authenticating. Right now my solution is to simply copy all of the custom tests I have to each monitored machine. This works, but the problem is that it's so decentralized. Every time I make a simple change to a script or want to add a new custom script I have to go to every single machine and make the same change. Being able to centralize this somewhat and have the clients all read from one source would make managing custom tests much much easier. Is this possible to do?

Migrating to new server + Xymon version - want to preserve data

Hi, Is it possible to copy over data from old xymon server to a new xymon server? And if so, what data do I need to copy to preserve all historic data (graphs, alerts etc.)? Regards, Carl Melgaard

Clearing ACK user credentials in the user interface (UI)

Didds Firstly, make sure that your webserver is actually requiring authentication when accessing the ack page. This could be by inspecting the headers in "Developer Tools" (Ctrl+Shift-I in Firefox, Chrome and Edge) or by reviewing the webserver log for the authenticated user field. Or you could temporarily change the password or remove the account from xymonpasswd to see if that fails to authenticate. In Edge and Chrome you can selectively review and delete cached credentials by going into Settings -> (Autofill / Profiles) -> Passwords, or entering edge://settings/passwords or chrome://settings/passwords into the location bar. In Firefox it's about:logins, or go to Options -> Privacy & Security -> Logins and Passwords. It's possible that changing the password on the webserver (in xymonpasswd) will force the browser to prompt you for the password, and also clear the cached entry. You can then change the password back again on the server. But I'm not confident - it might just continue to try the old cached entry. Just a thought: are you running a password manager such as Lastpass or Bitwarden? These utilities might be automagically entering the credentials for you. Lastpass has an "autofill" option that can be set/cleared for each username/password, and if set, this might be authenticating you automagically. Bug - duplicate RRD data with same timestamp different data

Hi, I have a script that creates and updates rrd files following with following command: ?$line = "[TipoDocVers,$tipo_doc.rrd]"; Among the rrd files created by the script were two similarly named? Hello, I have to monitor lot's of haproxy backend (in multiple servers) The trouble for is that backend aren't the same name, because name is the Web domaine for each client. for exemple on serveur01 : FO_DomaineMydomainecomSessCur: 294 FO_DomaineOtherDomainecomSessCur: 249 FO_DomaineTheDomainecomSessCur: 942 on serveur02 : FO_DomaineTotocomSessCur: 924 FO_DomaineTiticomSessCur: 429 FO_DomaineTatacomSessCur: 494 on serveurXX: XX..... Devmon SNMP data not updating in Xymon after Perl Update

Hello, I recently noticed after an update to my Perl package on Ubuntu 18.04 (i686, Kernel 4.15.0-122-generic, Summary of my perl5 (revision 5 version 26 subversion 1) on Oct. 30th that my Xymon monitor no longer receives data from Devmon. I ran a hello test for Perl and it worked, checked Devmon to make sure it wasn't receiving any errors, and restarted the Xymon process with no luck. Tried setting up a new Ubuntu 20.04 and CentOS 8 VM and installing everything from scratch. Installed Xymon successfully using apt on Ubuntu, but could not compile Xymon 4.3.30 on CentOS or Ubuntu. Was still not receiving SNMP information from Devmon to Xymon, however Devmon tests were successful.
