I was having issues with hobbitfetch core dumping. I finally figured out the issue. In the "grabdata" function there is: int n; char buf[8192]; /* Read data from a peer connection (client or server) */ n = read(conn->sockfd, buf, sizeof(buf)); ... else if (n > 0) { ... buf[n] = '\0'; ... If 8192 bytes are read then "n" is 8192. There is no element 8192 in buf. buf is 0-8191.

client tests on some machines

Hi, I'm migrating a BB setup to hobbit. I have a client test, that is run only on some machines. how can I do that with hobbit? ==> I have all clients running the same client software with binary distribution, all clients have a [extensions] in clientlaunch.cfg where ONE external shellscript is startet (that script calls the different local tests I have). All those external scripts are distributed via binary update. in BB I had the bb-hosts distributed onto the clients and the scripts were parsing that file to check if they had to do something. a solution would be to have a bb-hosts in the ext/-Directory also, that would be distributed via binary update, and the scripts would check against that bb-hosts file. is there any other more flexible way? is it possible for the clients to fetch the content of the serverside bb-hosts or hobbit-client.cfg? any pointers to the right documentation welcome. regards Werner. -- Dipl.-Ing. propagate blue status to the main page

How do I propagate blue status to the main page ? Some hosts' some services are disabled and it still shows green in the main page. The only way to realize that some of those tests are disabled is by clicking on the group and go to the group page. This is from hobbitserver.cfg man page SUMMARY_SET_BKG If set to TRUE, then summaries will affect the color of the main Hobbit webpage. Default: FALSE. I set it to TRUE and restarted hobbit. But still the blue alerts not show up in the main page. I'm trying to debug a problem with alerts. We have a catchall rule that alerts "on-call" person about any connectivity, http and httpcontent checks going red. The syntax is: HOST=* SERVICE=conn,http,httpcontent COLOR=red DURATION>4 followed underneath by the MAIL command. But I see that oftentimes, the alert doesn't get sent even if test has been red for 15 minutes. Hobbit following cluster nodes (or can I include a file in localclient.cfg)

Hi, I have a passive/active cluster on 2 Linux servers : * on machine MA : - we use to run the applications A01 and A02 - with the IP addresses IP0A and logical IP0A:1 - we want to monitor file systems FS01, FS02, applications A01 and A02. * on machine MB : - we use to run the applications B01 and B02 - with the IP addresses IP0B and logical IP0B:1 - we want to monitor file systems FS03, FS04, applications B01 and B02. My first solution was to install one hobbit client on each machine MA and MB. Problems occurs when the cluster switch from a node to the second node : - Applications A01 and A02 could be started on machine MB who keep running applications B01 and B02. Machine MB will have 4 file systems now : FS01, FS02, FS03, FS04 to monitor and 3 IP addresses : IP0B, IP0B:1 and IP0A:1 - Also, it possible to have the opposite : all applications (and file systems and IPs) could be on machine MA. - Finally, applications can be switch from MA to MB : FS03, FS04, B01 and B02 and IP0B:1 could be run on MA and machine MB could run FS01, FS02, A01 and A02 and IP0A:1 As you can guess, it's a total mess to monitor. Everything is in red when machine MA acts as MB and so on. We had several ideas : 1) Install a hobbit Client linked to the application cluster group of [A01,A02] and [B01,B02], it will follow the applications who needs to be monitored. -> problem : when everything is running on only one machine, the second one switch to PURPLE (none hobbit clients report datas) 2) Install a hobbit Client linked to the application cluster group of [A01,A02] and [B01,B02] and also install another hobbit client on each machines -> problem : with 2 machines, one could be running 3 hobbit client are the same time, image with 4 node cluster, one machine could run 5 hobbit clients each on them checking RAM, CPU, disk space... Not a solution neither. 3) Install a Hobbit client on each machine, switch the hobbit client configuration to the server (not LOCAL mode) -> problem : I still have install 2 clients each following the application cluster group. The hobbit client use the first IP of the machine IP0A on machine MA (eth0). Can I force to use the virtual IP (IP0A:1 = eth0:1) ? 4).. Any ideas is welcome! Thanks by advance!

hobbit feature: backlog data delivery possible ?

Hi, I am wondering if the following request will be possible to implement or not. The idea is that we like to see a more robust/resilient xymon client. Scenario: if the xymon server ( or group of servers ) is down due to network outage or system failure, all the client's data/status/metrics will be missing during the down time window. Suggestion: If there is a backlog mechanism, the client can still deliver the data to hobbit server. Although the status alerts will be meaningless and should be ignored, the system statistcis ( netstat/ifstat/load average/vmstat/filesystem usage... etc ) will still be logged to the rrd. The key to such implementation is to have hobbitd_rrd log the data with the appropriate timestamp from the client incoming data, instead of the current system time, if the data is sent with a backlog flag. Otherwise if there is no backlog flag, use the system time stamp to update the rrd. I'd appreciate if some can tell me if such feature can be achieved by using current xymon releases ( 4.2 to 4.3 ) Edmond

bb-snapshot - apache error 500...

Hi! I've got a problem with apache2 giving me a 500 error when I try to run a snapshot report... I'm running on a Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit platform and XYmon 4.3.0 svn rev. 6177... The errorl in the web-browser is: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster at localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. moving from 4.2.0 to 4.3.0 general questions

I need to move my old hobbit 4.2.0 server to a different host and have decided to bit the bullet and upgrade to the 4.3.0 software. I have a couple general questions about the move. 1) Do the client also have to be moved to 4.3.0? 2) If I rsync my 4.2.0 directory to the new server an then compile and install 4.3.0 will it just install the programs over the old programs? 3) Is #2 above an ok way of doing the upgrade or should I start from scratch? 4) Is there a web page about moving from 4.2 to 4.3 and things to look out for.
