some clients ssh test is purple right fron installation of clients

hello, i have 288 clients reporting to one server for xymon 4.2.2.but some bunch of clients have status of ssh as purple always right from begining.only ssh test is purple.i am not getting any cause or solution.kindly help. -- Pankaj V. Dorlikar

Alerts

We have multiple pages of hosts, so my alerts configuration is based on page. Each page may have 20 or more hosts. The problem that I am running into is that I want to receive alerts for all tests for all hosts on the page except there is at times a specific test for a specific host that I want to exclude from the alerts. I want it to show up in the monitoring system, but I don't want to be alerted. However, I do want to be alerted for this specific server's other tests, so I do not want to exclude the entire host, just the one test. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this without having to make an alert rule for each and every host and without losing the status history in monitoring for the test I want to not hear about? Thanks!

Xymon queries on Timezone & graphs.

Hi, We have recently started using xymon as a monitoring tool. We are facing some hurdles in using for our needs. I have given the details below. It would be great if someone can give us few pointers - 1. Timezone We are planning to have a multilayered monitoring structure. We have a central xymon server at our head office. Which is used by HO admins to monitor local offices. Each Site has a xymon server and a proxy. The site server is used by site admins to monitor the local site. The clients send data to local proxy, which forwards to both local and central server. The sites are in different time zones. Ideally we would want the graphs to show timestamps as per the local time zone of each server. Is there a way to do this? We saw one post on mail archives that mentions this. But the solution given for graphs on that post is not quite clear. 2. The graphs shows four graphs for each test; 48hrs, 12days,48 days & 576 days. After some digging in code we found that these intervals are actually a function of step & RRA values. In the current code both the step (always default 300) and RRA is hardcoded. If we change the code to take step and RRAs dynamically (we are looking at do_external), will the graph generation utility automatically take this into account and generate additional graphs. This might be theoretically possible as "rrdtool info" command gives the necessary details. Regards, Dinabandhu

Hi everyone, Does anyone monitor windows system logs? When we installed the bbwin client on the machine it started to just crazily send messages to xymon. The harddrive for xymon went from 20% to 98% in one night. I tried to ignore logs but it still takes them in... Its reading all the sucessful logins as well as the failures and logs them so i get about 8 entries every second from all 189 hosts. page=Wintel LOG %.* %.*sucess.* IGNORE this is what i tried to do to ignore them.. msgcache 4.2.0 core dumps on AIX 5.3

We are running a passive Xymon client 4.2.0 with msgcache enabled on AIX 5.3. msgcache exits with an IOT/Abort trap when receiving messages. split-ncv not working in Xymon 4.3.0-0.beta2

I tried to use the split-ncv function in Xymon 4.3.0 beta2 and get the following error in the rrd-status.log: 2009-07-14 13:49:46 RRD error creating /home/xymon/data/rrd/hostname/column,test.rrd: Duplicate DS name: lambda I did a search on the mailing list and found Charles posting with a patch for this dated back in Nov 2007. I made the change and recompiled and it fixed the problem. The change to be made is still at line 177 of the do_ncv.c Change from "if (split_ncv && (paridx > 1)) {" Change to "if (split_ncv && (paridx > 0)) {" Does anyone know why the following changes didn't make it to the current versions of Xymon? Hi All, I read Stef Coene's excellent article on updating Hobbit / Xymon to use the pc and ec values from vmstat in a shared CPU environment on AIX. - The article also mentions converting existing vmstat.rrd files. How do I convert the rrd files to add the 2 new columns? Thanks in advance.
