Ping only when another machine is not pingable

Monitoring a couple of Infoblox devices, each with a "LAN" port and a "HA" port. I'm supposed to monitor all 4 ports but, as it turns out, on active device in this High-availability pair, the HA port is not pingable. So, I would like to have the "conn" column go clear instead of red. Been looking at "depends" but can't figure out how to make that work for this scenario. Eric Jacobs

Had this working yesterday, did not know it was until I look in the trends column but by then I broke it! I cannot seam to get it right today! File is /etc/backup/passwd (back up of passwd) ALL I want to do is get a linecount of ALL line. What goes in client-local.cfg What goes (if anything) in hobbit-clients.cfg

cont check regex problems

I'm not clear what I'm doing wrong in my cont check in bb-hosts, and I was hoping someone could help me out. My regular expression works fine in perl: perl -e '$text = join "", <>; if ($text =~ /assetID="[0-9A-Fa-f]{8}"/) { print "OK\n"; } else { print "NotOK\n"; }' < /tmp/vodbrowser.php However, bb-hosts line fails on the regex check: 10.100.104.53 seachange-vod # testip cont=vod;http://mrteeny/vod/vodbrowser.php;assetID="[0-9A-Fa-f]{8}" It *is* a webpage I'm trying to match... so the page starts with: <html> <head> <title>VOD Interface</title> </head> <body bgcolor=white> <h3 align=center>Vod Interface</h3> <pre> ----------------------------------- assetID="00080002" However, I really only care if the assetID is being displayed. Any suggestions?

DURATION in alerts

I have an alerts file where hobbit sends out an alert to a ever-widening group of people based on DURATION... the longer the un-ack'd duration, the more excited it gets. The problem comes in when something goes YELLOW for a while and then goes RED. All the time it spent at YELLOW is included in the DURATION even through I have a COLOR=red explicitly given in the config file. Is there a way to specify the duration as the time something has been RED as opposed to NOT-GREEN? Thanks, Jon

History File Management

I recently installed hobbit to monitor nodes in a cluster. It's a very good product - thanks to all who have worked on it! I noticed after a while, that the hobbit home directory was growing in an apparently boundless fashion. On further investigation, I discovered that on one server, my history files had grown to several gigabytes. After a while, this growth becomes unsustainable. Am I doing something wrong? How do others manage the growth of hobbit history and log files? I'm not referring to those in /var/log/hobbit - that's easy to handle with logrotate. I'm concerned about the directories associated with each client under the server data directory. Thanks! David

bbwin patches

I'm trying to get Hobbit 4.2.0 (installed using hobbit-4.2.0-9.el5.re.i386.rpm) to monitor Windows servers. I had a look at http://bbwin.sourceforge.net/ and installed the bbwin client on a test lab machine. However, I've noticed that I need to apply the "all-in-one" and bbwin patches, and this is slightly confusing: Does that apply to my installed version of Hobbit? Was I supposed to apply the patches before installing Hobbit, and necessarily build Hobbit as opposed to using the existing rpm? Is there a way of modifying my existing installation to add support for monitoring Windows? Also, the link to the all-in-one patch is dead on the site mentioned above... I have googled this but haven't really come across anything very useful - if anyone knows of a good source of info apart from the bbwin .chm file I'd appreciate the pointer. Thanks.

Secondary ping?

Heres the problem my hobbit server can ping HostA and HostB but SOMETIMES HostA and HostB cannot ping each other . Besides a client side script, anyone think of a way to do this and take advantage of hobbit functionality. BBNET? route ? something else?

Latest stable snapshot?

Hi all, We manage several systems and use hobbit for monitoring all of them. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what is the current recommended version to be running? 4.2.0 is getting very old and does not include a large number of features we like. One of our systems was updated to a snapshot at some point, which is generally working okay but still has some problems (history viewer crashes occasionally, but can always be resolved by simply refreshing the page). I'd now like to find a stable 4.3 release that we can deploy instead of that. From what I've gathered the snapshots are not generated anymore. The SVN seems to be generally very unstable from what I've seen (I've tested two checkouts in the last few days and both have kind-of worked but had more severe crashing issues with the viewers than the current snapshot). I'm also a bit confused by the fact that the SVN does not seem to match the snapshots. One of our systems (which is working very well) has a snapshot which identifies itself as 4.3.0-0.20080327. The source for that snapshot is lost at our end. Looking through the SVN the versions which have that string in include/version.h are versions 5614 through 5626. None of these revisions compile as the file hobbitd/client/hmdc.c does not exist but is referenced in the build! Was there an out-of-tree patch made for the snapshot release? Anyway, any pointers or advice from others running 4.3 snapshots would be greatly appreciated. :) Kind regards, Davíð Steinn Geirsson Basis ehf.

connection alert on a quorum

Is it possible to configure hobbit server to send out alert only when 2/3 machines failed during the night time ? "route:router1,router2,...." is close but it is not a quorum. tj

Disabled tests report
