Another alert color?, and NCV alerts

Hi All, Two questions: QUESTION #1: Is it possible to have a third color alert? Meaning: One of my customers wants a setup like this: Custom script runs on client server, reports: foo : 80 for example. They want less than 85 to be green, 85-90 yellow, 90-95 red, and above 95 any color, say orange. So far as I can tell, I can only use green, yellow, and red for alerts, and blue and purple are reserved. QUESTION #2: lets say #1 above is possible, so my script sends hobbit the status line based on the it sees, with the status of green, yellow, red, and orange. The hobbit server recieves it, and uses the NCV module to build the rrd etc.. In hobbit-alerts.cfg to say does the SERVICE keyword work for custom NCV type columns? Thanks.

graphing

I have a question about doing some graphing with a custom script that I am putting together. What I will have is a table similar to the if_load table with the cisco devices in devmon but in my table I am wanting to have a column with links to the graphs so that I can click on them and have them pull up the graphs instead of having them shown down at the bottom. Can I have hobbit create the rrd files via my script but just not put anything into the hobbitgraph.cfg, so that no graphs show at the bottom of the page and then use the rrd files to show my graphs? CPU % load on Windows XP

We have approximately 20 virtual XP workstations on a VMWare ESX 3.02 server where the bbwin clients on the XP workstations are reporting back to hobbit CPU loads of between 1% and up to 15% or a little more. This seems appropriate for the tiny amount of work they are performing. However, when the CPU load for one of these virtual XP workstations reaches 7% CPU load (as reported on the CPU page), Hobbit sets the color to Yellow. When the CPU load gets to just around 10%-11% CPU load Hobbit sets the color to red. The hobbit-clients.cfg man page explains the default load as follows: Defaults: warnlevel=5.0, paniclevel=10.0 Which I understand to be *NIX load levels, not %loads as indicated by Windows systems. But in the Reports --> Config Reports page, under the CPU for each host I see: UNIX - Yellow: Load average > 1.5, Red: Load average > 3.0 Windows - Yellow: CPU utilisation > 80%, Red: CPU utilisation > 95% So based on that information, I am assuming that the defaults for CPU load on Windows clients is 80% = yellow and 95% = red. Have I done misunderstood? configuring bbdisplay server

I have hobbit server: Server1 IP: 192.168.2.2 configured and running as bbtest and bb display, it receive client`s data on port 1987. I have the server in bb-hosts as: 192.168.2.2 server1 #bbd I want to add another machine "server2 IP: 192.168.2.3" in the environment as bbdisplay only .. I want to keep server1 as bbd and bbtest and another bbdisplay as well. I don`t want server2 to perform any network testing. What I need to change on both machines.?. The other thing , how to keep bb-hosts , hobbit-alerts.cfg in sync in case one of them gets updated.

I use your afs_fsmon monitoring-script ftp://ftp.iastate.edu/pub/bb/ext/afs_fsmon to check our AFS-Fileserver with much success .. :-) But i want also to have the output not only as status-messages besides as Grpahic and have tested much but without success ... :-( And now i read (not the first time, but never recognize) under http://workshop.openafs.org/afsbpw06/talks/gendalia/gendalia-web.html that you've a configuration to do that ! Monitoring * We use hobbit for monitoring * When the http connections on the various web servers start going red en masse... it's usually an afs server problem * So I added "rxdebug $HOST 7000 -noconn -rxstats" to my afs monitoring script, and started alerting on too many calls waiting for a thread. * It was also simple to have all the numbers rxstats generates fed into an rrd, so pretty graphs are available, although calls waiting for a thread is the only one monitored Can i/we share it with you ?! Help writing test -- sar

Hello All, I've written my own "sar" test to put sar cpu data into the database. It's been working fine now for a while. I don't do any alerting, it's just graphing sar data. However, a recent problem came up. Hobbit uses cpu load for alerting on high cpu load. However, using cpu load doesn't take into account i/o wait problems. The cpu may have a low load on it, but have excessive i/o wait, so as an example, a 24 cpu box, with a load of 12 on it may actually be at 99% utilization. I've seen this on database servers where someone writes a bad sql query to access the database, or an index file isn't there. So I want to alert on cpu utilization in addition to cpu load. I want to take my sar test, output is below, that I've written and have it check for idle time less than 5% for alerting. I've already modified my test for this. However, when I was orignally writing the sar test to put into the rrd database, if I included any kind of status message, it would not put data into the database. What's the format so that it keeps putting data into the database even if I have a status message? or am I wrong on this? Example: Here's the output of my sar test now: Thu Jul 10 10:35:20 CDT 2008 usr : 3 sys : 1 wio : 1 idle : 95 **** GRAPH ***** What I want is something like this if idle is less than 5%: Thu Jul 10 10:40:30 CDT 2008 * CPU usage is above 95% user : 40 sys : 10 wio : 47 idle : 3 *** GRAPH **** So, if I add to the ouput the CPU usage is above 95% will I continue to write to the database the stats? Last time I tried adding status messages like above, it didn't seem to put anything in the database. THanks....James

linux memory usage

When I pull up hobbit graphs for memory for one of our database servers with 16 GB of memory, I see the Actual Memory Used is reporting as 657 M and swap is 0 M Used. But if I run ps -vax --sort -rss note the top 4 processes... Looks like just over 7.0 GB of memory is consumed. I'm deleting PID, TTY and STAT colum to make sure it all fits on one line. Hobbit Monitor problem

Vernon/Stephen, Thanks for your input but I still haven't been able to resolve this issue. I built out my hobbit server last week so my "TEST2RRD" variable in hobbitserver.cfg retains the default values. I've searched the archives to see if anybody has experienced this issue before but I can't find any related threads. I'm hoping some one on this list has the magic solution. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm at a loss as to why the graphs will generate for the first 24 hours and then disappear after that. I have a fresh Hobbit Monitor install (4.2.0+allinone) and I see all of my graphs on the trends and cpu pages but nowhere else. Just like Anthony it worked for a day on the normal pages (memory, disk, etc) but then x,x nothing.
